Rooney Mara Cast as Tiger Lily in 'Pan'

Rooney Mara is in negotiations to play Tiger Lily in Warner Bros.' Peter Pan origin tale Pan.

Joe Wright, who directed Atonement and Pride & Prejudice, is directing from a script by Jason Fuchs.

Hugh Jackman is playing Blackbeard and Garrett Hedlund will take on the role of Hook in the film, which will tell the tale of a young orphan boy from London who is spirited away to the magical Neverland. There, he faces off against Blackbeard, the story's main villain.

The young Pan has yet to be cast, but will be a boy between 10 and 12 years old.

Sarah Schechter, Greg Berlanti and Paul Webster are producing. Courtenay Valenti is overseeing for the studio.

The film, which is slated for release on July 17, 2015, is a reimagining of the classic tale, and will present a very different take on the story and its characters, featuring an international cast.

Mara is currently shooting lesbian drama Carol with Cate Blanchett. Her most recent films include Her, Ain't Them Bodies Saints, Side Effects and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. She's repped by WME, Management 360 and Stone, Meyer.

This could be really good or really boring. Hoping for the first.

Have you not seen the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo remake? She was pretty fantastic in that. Don't think anyone else could have done that role better (outside Noomi Rapace anyway)

She's definitely had some misses, but she most definitely has acting talent.
