LINK TO FULL STORY: Resident Evil Will Return To Its Roots - IGN

This is great news being a fan of the early games. Since 4 I think the series has really just gone the wrong direction. The story is all over the place and it's more of a action adventure game with the horror aspect taking a back seat. Fresh start with new characters and a whole new story arch is a must for them.

Resident Evil 5 was not all that bad.

However I do agree that games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill need to go back to their roots, these games have kind of lost the glow they formerly used to have IMO.

Yeah, they took the survival Horror genre and made it an action-Horror genre. I did like RE4 but that was the first step into that direction and now they have just blown into something it wasn't in the first place. It's like the first Halloween movies are actual Horror movies and from H20 on it was less about building to the scary parts and just being more like an action movie to appease a larger audience of people that can't get into a real Horror movie.

I had issues with certain games in the series. I didn't like Code Veronica. They went way off into left field with that one. Should have just focused on Raccoon City, then moved on a few years later like they did with Leon in RE4. I like character continuity in a series. Whatever happened to Barry Burton, Billy from RE:0 and Rebecca Chambers? Whatever happened to Hunk?

With that said, I do hope they go back to the roots with the Spencer Mansion in the Arklay Mountains. Start there and keep the games central to Raccoon City! No prequels, interequals, "alternate timelines" or any other inconsistencies.

IS RE 6 really THAT bad? It got like 4.0/10 on GS. I usually don't go by reviews, but that's like barely passing in academic terminology.

Fuck yeah, RE: Revelations is on PC too, thumbs up.

It's fine if you like Co-Op for wasting time with friends but for an actual game to continue this great series it was quite a letdown. However, I didn't like RE5 either.

My cousin who absolutely hated RE 4 & 5 actually enjoyed playing the Leon campaign on RE 6. Yes it is more action oriented, but you are fighting zombies & B.O.W.'s.

I found the entire game enjoyable, but I am also not hung up about the style of gameplay changing to tell stories better.

I still play 2 and 3 to this day, absolute classics. I rather enjoyed 5 and although I'm a bit disappointed by some of the changes like how you access your inventory, I like 6 a lot as well, Ustanak is a beast. Whether they keep it going or reboot it, I'll check it out as Resident Evil is one of my favorite game franchises.
