  • Tito Santana defeated The Executioner (4:50)[1]
    • Santana forced The Executioner to submit with the figure-four leglock.
  • King Kong Bundy (with Jimmy Hart) defeated Special Delivery Jones (0:23)[1]
    • Bundy pinned Jones after an avalanche and a big splash.
    • WWF announced the time of the match as nine seconds.[2]
  • Ricky Steamboat defeated Matt Borne (4:37)[8]

  • David Sammartino (with Bruno Sammartino) fought Brutus Beefcake (with Johnny Valiant) to a double-disqualification (12:43)[8]

  • Junkyard Dog defeated WWF Intercontinental Champion Greg Valentine (with Jimmy Hart) by count-out (7:05)[8]
    • Valentine originally pinned JYD with a roll-up while holding onto the ropes for leverage. Displeased with the result, Tito Santana came out and told the referee about Valentine's illegal victory causing the match to restart. Valentine walked out of the match, giving JYD the win by countout. Valentine retained the Intercontinental Championship.
  • Nikolai Volkoff and Iron Sheik (with Freddie Blassie) defeated The U.S. Express (Mike Rotundo and Barry Windham) (with Lou Albano) to win the WWF Tag Team Championship (6:55)[8]
    • Volkoff pinned Windham after Sheik hit Windham with Blassie's cane.
  • André the Giant defeated Big John Studd (with Bobby Heenan) in a $15,000 Body Slam Challenge (5:53)[7]
    • André the Giant body slammed the "unslammable" Big John Studd to win the match. After the match, André began to throw the money into the crowd to Heenan's dismay, who eventually got the bag back.
    • The stipulations of the match were that if André had failed to slam Studd, that he would be forced to retire from wrestling.
  • Wendi Richter (with Cyndi Lauper) defeated Leilani Kai (with The Fabulous Moolah) to win the WWF Women's Championship (6:12)[7]
    • Richter defeated Kai after reversing Kai's flying crossbody into a pin.
  • Hulk Hogan and Mr. T (with Jimmy Snuka) defeated Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff (with Cowboy Bob Orton) (with Muhammad Ali as special guest referee) (13:13)
    • Hogan pinned Orndorff after Orton accidentally hit Orndorff with his cast.
My Rating: After watching it on youtube i have come to the conclusion that this deserves a 7/10, it wasnt that good but it was quite good.

Ill join in with this thread at Wrestlemania 2000 (Wrestlemania 15) because I only started watching WWE in 1999. My knowledge before that is patchy at best, especially not good enough to recall individual shows.

It'll be interesting to hear other peoples opinions though because I like learning about the history of pro wrestling.

Same

I've watch 15 up trough 24. I've seen parts of 13 and 14, and some of the classics in history, like HBK/Ramon from 10 and Hogan/Andre from 3, but other than that, I'm pretty clueless.

I don't mind if you do go through them chronologically. Like I said I enjoy reading about the history of pro wrestling.

Yea I totally did this last year. But you included WM24, I did it to 23. The highest rated were X8, X-7, and 21. That's all I remember.

Yeah I remember XBA doing this last year...

I'd give this a 6/10 just for the fact that it was the first Wrestlemania, besides that nothing really jumps out at you.

Ill join in with this thread at Wrestlemania 2000 (Wrestlemania 15)

Wrestlemania 2000 is actually Wrestlemania 16 not 15 :y:

Thanks for the correction OsamaHussain. I did it from counting backwards rather then checking so I wouldn't be surprised if I got it wrong.

XtremeBadass, I Suppose that makes sense because they were in the era when the largest amount of people were watching pro wrestling.

I'd be very surprised if all those Wrestlemanias from around the same time were the best though.

I'm more interested in finding out what people who watched pro wrestling in the eighties and early nineties made of the early Wrestlemanias because I know the ones since 1999 like the back of my hand.

I started watching in '89 and have watched the pre-89 stuff a fair bit over the years, so...

6/10... The ME was so over in terms of entertainment factor (WM1 arguably the birth of Sports Entertainment afterall), otherwise the only match of note was the tag champ's which was a big deal having the USA team lose to the anti-US Volkov & Sheik and it also being the only title change at such a make or break event (It took another 15 years before they let a heel walk out of WM with the world championship!).

I'd give Wrestlemania 21 a 8/10, one of the better Wrestlemania's over the last couple years.
