Re: Shawn losing his smile....

10/10

Idk, maybe just a HBK fan, but i mean its one of the most famous (or infamous) promos in wrestling history. Also, i love how the story gets twisted over the years. In my opinion, HBK was trying to hold off the surgrey until WM, although he didn't make, thus having to drop the belt. Also HBK was NEVER supposed to drop the belt to Sid. They wanted HBK vs Bret for the title at mania, from what i heard, with Bret winning. (maybe)

Yeah, Shawn had literally only just won it back from Sid at the Rumble and as far as I knew the idea was for them to have a Bret/HBK rematch for the title at Mania (Let's face it a non-title win over HBK wouldn't have cut it as payback for the WM12 job).... The Final Four match at In Your House gave Bret another super-brief title reign (pressumably to cool him off about the Shawn swerve) and I reckon the only reason they gave Sid the belt was to feed him to Taker in an attempt to muster some kind of marquee match for the WM13 ME. Funny how things pan out... We'd have never got the classic SCSA/Bret match if it wasn't for this.

Rating the actual moment: Hmmm.... 8/10.

AlcoHall sleeps, standing at Ringside!

last_hall.jpg

The Scott Hall trifecta reaches a drunken crescendo! Yeah, I know the Garza thing wasn’t his fault. I don’t care. Scott Hall’s name was mentioned. There’s a pattern. There’s always a pattern when it comes to Scott Hall. I dunno, sometimes I think picking on Hall is TOO easy. It’s like beating up the Blue kid. Where’s the challenge? Hall was the first three-time Intercontinental champion, as well as the first wrestler to simultaneously hold both the U.S Title and TV Title in WCW. Still though, Hall’s lengthy title history is nothing compared to his rap sheet. The granny-groping, limo-defiling man affectionately known as “Last Call†may just be the most arrested wrestler ever.

But Hall topped himself in 2002 during a WWF European tour. Y’ see, “AlcoHall†got so plastered that one night, he actually FELL ASLEEP WHILE STANDING AT RINGSIDE. Given Hall’s track record, it wasn’t a shock when he was fired, but it was still pretty damn dumb.

Vince McMahon purchases WCW!

WCW%20Logo.JPG

This was reminiscent of "Black Saturday" when Vince McMahon snuck in and scooped up a territory over night without anybody really knowing it.. Vince McMahon came on his own show and announced that he had "purchased the competition" and gloated enthusiastically as he watched "Nitro" on a monitor and publicly fired Jeff Jarrett & Buff Bagwell. Over the broadcast, Vince made it clear that several WCW wrestlers had no chance of gaining employment, such as Lex Luger, Sting & Goldberg.. Midway through RAW, Vince went out to the ring and ordered Ted Turner to come out personally and "beg" him to sign the papers to finalize the deal.. Vince was also making history because his speech was being broadcast live on Monday Nitro on TNT as well! Shane McMahon shocked the World and walked down a WCW isle and stepped foot inside a WCW ring, making history of his own.. Shane McMahon went on to explain that he had signed his name and purchased WCW out from under Vince's nose! This of course led to the whole Alliance Invasion angle which was a complete and total flop. But the Moment when Vince announced that he had purchased WCW will remain in the history books forever as it marked the end of one of the biggest Professional Wrestling Rivalries ever.

5/10

I'm being serious. I was like, "WTF?!" and as a child, I was really sad my favorite promotion was just purchased, and would never be heard of again. My grading serves two things; 5 for the sheer shock factor, and the absence of another five is as a result of what this did to me as a wrestling fan. I tuned off, I stopped watching after WCW was gone. I didn't watch a single RAW or Smackdown until late 2005, when Eddie Guerrero had passed away. It was a not a good moment for me, and sorta put an end to a chapter in my childhood, because I loved Nitro, WCW, Sting, Goldberg, the whole damn crew. Although it may have began to suck towards the end of 1998, I still loved it for what it was. It was WCW, my favorite promotion (and still is), and I will never forget the memories. R.I.P., the wrestling promotion that MADE me a wrestling fan.

The Brand Extension

The Brand Extension happened in 2002, In terms of storyline, Ric Flair had become fifty percent owner of the WWF following Survivor Series 2001 after Shane and Stephanie McMahon had sold their stocks to him in order to purchase WCW and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), respectively. Vince McMahon detested having to share his creation with Flair and looked for a way to dissolve their partnership. After entering a feud with The Undertaker, Flair sought a match with him at WrestleMania X8. However, the WWF Board of Directors would only allow the match if Flair were to return one hundred percent control to McMahon. Flair agreed, however, the Board also reserved the right to review the ownership status of the WWF following WrestleMania. Their decision was to split the entire WWF roster into two separate entities, with Vince McMahon in command of SmackDown! and Ric Flair in command of RAW.A draft was held the following week on RAW. Each owner would get a total of thirty picks. The brand extension officially began on April 1, 2002, History in the making.

I think this would be in the top ten biggest Raw's in history was a great moment. And which began a new era for both Raw and Smackdown.

Sting returns and beats Hulk Hogan at Starrcade '97

sting02.jpg

The wCw Heavyweight Championship was on the line. Sting had his own awesome introduction, the ring went dark, and Sting’s music played. Atop the runway, Sting appeared with his bat. Hogan just stared him down. The last time Sting was in the ring, for an actual match, was in the Summer of 1996. His job was to reclaim the Heavyweight Championship belt that he once held before on his last match. The match went on for almost 20 minutes. Practically unheard of. One minute Sting is in control, the next minute it is Hogan. The crowd was basically behind Sting as well as all of the other WCW wrestlers that actually paid for their seats. Sting beats Hogan to reclaim the World Heavyweight Championship, an amazing moment unfolded.
