I gave this year's Summerslam a rate of 8/10 and here's why (I wrote a lot because there were a lot of matches):
Although I had trouble today because somehow WWE confused the fuck outta me with the time of the pre-show and live show (my sleep schedule been off with sleeping in the mid morning to afternoon) plus my internet had its own "special" problem which made me miss all of the last parts of the pre-show and some of the beginning to Summerslam, I got the results for the matches on the pre-show and wasn't too impressed.
Match 1: The Miz & Miz-tourage defeated The Hardy Boyz & Jason Jordan, that's cool and I hope that The Miz & Miz-tourage are being shown more as a tough faction to capitalize upon. I'm guessing Jason Jordan did mediocre as usual (which I don't know where WWE is going with his story) and The Hardy Boyz, what's next for them?? Are they waiting for The Revival?? Are they going to do this triple threat against The Revival & The Good Brothers??
Match 2: Moving along, Neville defeats Tozawa after only 6 days of losing the title to him. I know some people like for Neville to hold the title but I feel like they should move it around because I'm beyond bored of this "King" story.
Match 3: The Usos won back their titles against The New Day, this I liked but I would have let the The New Day hold the titles a little longer to build a better story. You have to admit The Usos have been doing an outstanding job not just as heels but in their promos, their entrance, catchphrases, comedic rants and performance. Let's hope WWE keep this thing going awhile longer before they fuck it up royally.
Match 4: At this point, I really don't understand what WWE is doing with Baron Corbin or why. Every time he makes progress it's like they hold him back and it's annoying as hell, LET THE KID DO HIS OWN THING, VINCE, DAMN!!!!! They changed his theme music (for what, who knows), altered his ring attire (for what, who knows), made him cash in The Money In The Bank briefcase (6 days before Summerslam, just to lose the opportunity, FOR WHAT, WHO KNOWS!!!) and now they had him to come Summerslam against John Cena (of all people) to lose the match. WTH is going on?!? Please if you're not going to use this guy properly then just fire him, WE DON'T NEED ANOTHER JOBBER OR USED-TO-BE-GOOD WRESTLER, Vince!
Match 5: So finally they give Naomi her second title loss and now Natalya is the Smackdown Live's WWE Women champion which I'm not too mad about. I just want to know where is this particular story going to go, maybe they're try to recycle where Alexa Bliss left off before she lost the title and was traded to Raw. As long as they make it interesting, I'll be invested besides Natalya have been improving more since she's been a heel for this long.
Match 6: Next up, was the Big Cass vs Big Show with Enzo Amore in the mix *deep breath sigh*. Umm.....this was just a waste of time and energy, week after week after week after week, Enzo credibility goes downhill and it ain't o saving it as much as they try. I didn't find nothing that stood out of this match except the fact that Enzo found a way to slip out between the bars of the shark cage......just to get laid out instantly (GREAT IDEA, WWE!!!) and then Big Cass also finish off The Big Show. :/
Promo: Moving on, The General Managers finally have their first face off and goes from pleasant to arrogant in the funny sense. I loved it, I liked how they used each others known catchphrases (even brought back Daniel Bryan's "no" chant) and this works well for when Survivor's Series get here and they battle team for team.
Match 7: Before I state my opinion on this, I'll say yes I'm a fan of Randy Orton and the work he does as The Viper. I already knew going into the match that there wasn't going to be a whole lot of drama/story, I apologize in advance but Rusev doesn't have any new working for himself. I agree this is more so WWE's fault than his, I knew way back when they brought him and Lana on that they weren't going to have enough ideas to keep them for the long haul (especially since they chose to recycle the Rocky IV storyline). And as you can see, WWE is struggling to come up with ways to utilize both Rusev and Lana.
Match 8: Finally, Alexa lose that Raw Women title and Sasha wins it but let's hope they don't have it just become stagnant like they've done with other champions. This is a perfect time to get more out of Alexa Bliss as she'll work her way to regain the championship and she can now work a better buddy story with Nia Jax (this will help both of them in the long run).
Match 9: WWE gave us The Demon King and he did deliver a great match against Bray Wyatt. I didn't care if Bray was going to lose but I did want the match to equal the long build up and it can still continue if done correctly. Does anybody know why they continue to hype Bray up just to knock him down a few pegs?? Although I don't care for the character, I still want to believe in this evil and maniacal role he plays but it's becoming hard to take him as serious as his promos.
Match 10: Then we had the Raw tag team match, the outfits were....."interesting"?? I mean Cesaro & Sheamus are still trying to pull off kilts with army jackets and tonight they added army fatigue pattern to the kilts, meh. Seth Rollins in that bright as red, looked like a Mighty Morphin Power Ranger (no offensive 'The Rangers' at all) or as if he was in an ninja film, that's just MY opinion of it. Dean Ambrose did his normal thing that suits him but had the black hoodie with red 'DA' logo, meh. But out of all of that, a very well fought tag team match for the Raw tag team titles. So now what's going to happen with Dean & Seth becoming the new tag team champs?? This is the confusing part for me.
Match 11: One of my favorite matches of the night was this US Championship match, everyone played their parts well. I thought Shane was going to end the match after all the hits and arguments he was getting from both competitors but he stood his ground and maintained as the ref for this match. AJ Styles deserves to hold on to this title especially right now, he is doing superb as a face and performing incredible feats in the ring.
Match 12: I worried for the match of Nakamura vs Mahal because you have 2 guys who really haven't been impressing the fans (and myself) at all lately and they needed to wrestle at their best. I kind of knew Jinder Mahal was going to win since he made it this far without losing the World title and WWE needs him to hold that tile much longer. I would have not minded if Shinsuke won the World Championship but would it have been too soon?? To me, it's obvious that the fans would rather Shinsuke win this match against Jinder but alas, that didn't happen. And what a terrible finish as well, this title reign is getting worse.
Match 13: And then we finally got a great main event (up until the cheesy finish but the rest of it worked out), four men went in and were prepared to beat the crap outta one another. WWE did excellent with having Braun Strowman display his "MONSTER" abilities including repeating the commentator chair throw (guess it'll be a new maneuver, hopefully in 2K18 as well) and flipping the table onto Brock. Braun is going to get his push soon enough (WWE, don't fuck this up) and Roman maintained his ability to take on whatever dished out and bounce back yet he lost and was pinned by Brock. Now this isn't necessarily a bad thing because the fans aren't ready for Roman Reigns as Universal Champion (or Braun Strowan - too soon, or Samoa Joe - too soon), in fact since Brock and Roman have history this adds to the history for later if/when they face each other. This match is what improved the state of Summerslam as a whole or at least for me.
