Last Night in Soho 8.9/10

Damn i really liked this.... Its fairly slow burn and straight forward with some "weirdness." but when it comes to the final act
lol.... o!k! lets go! dialing up the bonkers and creepiness.
Is it predictable? Maybe, but i didn't "get it"

Just watching The Place Beyond the Pines with Ryan Gosling. Have the feeling I've seen this before, but it was a long time ago.

Either way, very good movie. Very entertaining, with nice pacing and good performances. Loving the cinematography too. Good to have that real life chemistry between Gosling and Mendes there.

DC really needs to come out with some movies that are not Batman. I want a Green Arrow/Black Canary or any DC comic character that hasn't gotten a movie or TV show. I want my Deathstroke movie that never got made. A Nightwing movie would be amazing too. They could get that done while referencing the new Batman movies.

There are so many options for WB to do but they insist on pushing out the same crap we've seen for the last 20+ years.

Watched so many good movies lately. Just finishing up The Big Short which has been excellent, loved the cast. I've basically been working my way through a lot of Ryan Gosling flicks I can't remember well or haven't seen.

I'd recommend The Place Beyond the Pines, The Nice Guys and The Big Short. Those are the last three I've watched and they have legit all been super engrossing. He's got a really good backlog of films. Since like Blue Valentine it's been bangers, only one I didn't like is Only God Forgives, it kinda lost me.

Tried to watch Shang Chi earlier with the girls. We shut it off 1/2 hour in. None of us got into it. Guess I really am superhero movie'd out.

Once Upon a Time in America 5/10

Starts well, and then goes on and on, 4 hours! Persevered and shouldn't have bothered. I now wish I had watched either The Godfather or The Untouchables again.

Spawn and Darkman are the only superhero movies anyone needs. Oh and The Spirit. That s**t was so bad it's good.

I can watch Watchmen anytime.

You definitely should. Lock, Stock is incredible, and I'd say it still holds up all these years later and on multiple rewatches. Possibly my favourite scene:

The Way Back (2020)

Really enjoyed this. I find Ben Affleck a bit hit and miss, but when he's on top form he really impresses me. Maybe my favourite performance of his since The Town and The Accountant. Very easy to follow story with good performances. Felt pretty realistic and grounded, very emotional in parts. I'd recommend it.

Not quite as good as Remember the Titans or Coach Carter, but does a good job of slotting in with those movies.

The Ascent (1977) Two Russian soldiers hiding in Demchika's farm are caught by German soldiers. They are taken to an interrogation camp where the police investigator Portnov has given one of them a chance to join the German police. It comes at being labeled a traitor. Rybak doesn't have many options: join the Nazis or get executed with the rest of the prisoners.
