Because supporting characters get dumber in the sequel. That's the rule of slasher films.

Not always, sometimes we get smarter ones like Ted from Friday the 13th Part II. I mean, the dude managed not to get killed by Jason even though he seemed a prime candidate.

I think he never recovered from his daughter dying after doing it by the book. He became so distraught that his marriage fell apart and his wife left him. Then his dog died. Then his truck broke. He basically lived a country and western song for a whole year, so you can't blame him for being a little slow.

Now I feel like an asshole. I feel sorry for him. Oh well.

I always loved the crazy guy in Part III that has the eyeball and the "I have warned thee" speech.

Have you ever listened to the commentary track for this movie? He's a total perv and he tells a story about how beautiful Danielle was, says it in a creepy way and then talks about how they got ice cream.

Yeah, it went from a normal suburban home to something out of a Hammer movie. I like the look, but its pretty outrageous all the same.
