I'll never understand how they could have a kid killed on-screen but not show a simple power drill to the ear. That just doesn't make much sense and the only thing I've ever been able to come up with is that they didn't save enough money to make it a convincing effect.

There's another MAJOR plot issue here. If the big giveaway takes place at 9PM PST it stands to reason that all the kids on the east coast would already be asleep. Or does Cochrane just have something against kids in the Pacific time zone?

I never had a problem with it either. At the very least it was a good attempt to freshen things up. Too bad they didn't get the chance to run with it. Oh well, can't really complain, what's done is done.
