I know but from a film point we didn't know the main characters names for the whole movie.

Yeah, sloppy writing is sloppy. It's just one of the many issues I have with this movie.

And of course we needed to set up a sequel which may never get made because this movie didn't perform very well at the box office.

I think the brain trust at Fox were expecting it to do a lot better, and now that Prometheus has basically murdered the box office, I think they'd prefer to focus on a sequel to that one rather than this.

We might not see the direct sequel to this but there will be another Predator at some point.

Yeah, for some reason I see them attempting to reboot it again rather than going for the sequel. Can't say I blame them.
