It doesnt have to be blatantly religious, if they stay with it just how they're doing now it's perfect. They don't have to directly compare him to Jesus. At this point it works fine with the loose implication.

Yeah but when you get into the water/wine thing it gets over the top and obvious

No one is saying they're going to do that, just that it would be amusing.

OK, as someone who loves the religious mock-up gimmick as much as I do, you guys have way better ideas than me. The wine to water thing is hilarious, I would love to see them do that. How about this though, Punk has a title shot, and the Smackdown! before the PPV, they get all of the Straightedge people he has saved and they have a Last Supper style promo. Ah....I love this gimmick.

What made me like it most is that I have two very religious uncles (I have more than that, but only 2 watch wrestling), and they both HATE CM Punk because they say he's a false prophet.

Jr used to call Cm punk that when he was on smackdown in the Summer/fall. So it may have been a long thought out thing.

I am loving the Straightedge Society gimmick right now as long as it eventually leads to Punk being in a real feud with somebody we actually want to see, not Matt Hardy please. Here's my idea for this Straightedge Society Storyline...

For the next few weeks Punk does his 'save a member of the WWE Universe' thing. He doesn't shave all their heads like some have mentioned, he switches up things to cleanse the people. He doesn't make a stable of fans that he saved, he makes a stable of lowly 'souls' in the WWE locker room that he has saved. Jobbers basically, maybe somebody like Jesse and a few others. They are meant to look weak, weak enough that they fell for Punk's preaching. Before the Elimination Chamber PPV have the Straightedge Stable interfere in John Morrison's Qualifying Match, costing him his title shot.

Next week on Smackdown Punk cuts an amazing promo on how he has narrowed it down to one name that is the cause for the wrong doing and alchohol/prescription medication/drug abuse in the world and that is John Morrison. (This is obviously supposed to be Jeff Hardy's storyline but Morrison works almost as well) He then makes it his personal crusade to rid the WWE of John Morrison just like he did to Jeff Hardy. At the Elimination Chamber PPV it's Punk's stable against Morrison in a handicap match. Since they are a bunch of jobbers Morrison runs through them and dares Punk to face him one on one. Punk of course leaves and the next week on Smackdown gives his group one more chance and if they screw up they're through. They do screw up so Punk has no choice but to humilate them in front of the WWE Universe. He pours alchohol, cigarettes, and perscription medication on them before Morrison comes out for the save. He eventually gets the stable to see that they had been manipulated by Punk and attack him. Morrison and the former straightedge society rid Punk of the ring and Morrison gets on the mic stating that they have a one on one match at Wrestlemania where they will finish this once and for all. They go on to have a classic WM match and we are all sent home happy at least with the mid card because this whole feud and match will kick ass.

I know many have Morrison pegged as the MITB Winner but I just don't see it. I see him as in the running but not a big name to actually win it. Between then and now there's so much that could happen and I would much rather see a good singles feud than everybody be clusterfucked in MITB.

Oh and if this storyline ends with Punk getting his head shaved I will not watch Smackdown anymore. Quote it, hold me to it, do whatever you got to do because that is unacceptable if that is the case.

I honestly love the idea of making this a faction. One good thing that could come out of this is possibly get a guy like Charlie Haas back on television and give him some sort of character, being one of Punk's blindless followers and not just a random dude who wrestles from time to time. If I am not mistaken he wanted to go to TNA and Vince game gime a raise lol, might as well let him earn it.

The Last Supper promo would be HIL-fucking-LARIOUS imo.

Ehhh, I'm not feeling the whole faction thing. I think Punk picking some "random audience members" would be more than enough. Each week he could come out and save someone, shave their head and cut a promo. Around Mania he'd single out someone on the roster he wants to save. Giving Punk a whole tribe of followers in a way takes away from his original charm of the heel character they created for him.
He was pretty much at the time the only non chicken shit heel in the company, and actual fighting heel in WWE? Imagine that. I was honestly even a little put off by the addition of Gallows. It essentially took the first step in making Punk look weak.

^ You don't want to Ted The Trailer McNaler with Punk?

Anyway, I like that idea too but I thought CM Punk was putting R-Truth over in the ME? So instead of Morrison, wouldn't it be Truth

I'm still not completely sure of how people expect Punk to put someone over into the main event when he himself was thrown out of it like a piece of trash by Undertaker. In order for Punk to "put someone over" into the main event I'd say he himself needs to look like a permanent fixture there. He was about 2 months away from being one until they shat all over him.

THIS.... :y:

Plus, maybe it's just me but Punk fucking with the 'public' is a more sinister appropriation of his gimmick.

LOL.... Punk's putting Truth over as a decent mid-carder, not a main eventer. And no, Punk/Truth will not happen at Mania.

Apparently, WWE feels he has the crediblity to do it. I think R-Truth can get an even larger reaction than he already does if he can defeat Punk and the straightedge society single-handedly but knowing WWE, they'll bring like Cryme Tyme into it

And besides, do the WWE really want to start singling out a chunk of their roster with accusations of alcohol and substance abuse? lol

1. Why are you talking about the "Straight Edge Society" like it's an actual story line they're running. This is all just hypothetical talk.

2. Really, out of everyone on the roster you'd have R Truth be the one to overturn Punk's momentum of a stable???

You refering to Punk or Truth's credibility here?

So you'd have Truth win what would effectively be a handicap-fued against hot shit like Punk, a near 300lber and whoever else you're proposing they add to this hypothetical faction?

Even if you're a massive Truth fan (which I don't believe you are..?), look at it this way... HHH or Cena couldn't overcome the collective force of Legacy, Taker repeatedly fell victim to La Familia, Christian enlisted the support of Yoshi & Dreamer to get past Regal's Roundtable and so on.
