It doesnt have to be blatantly religious, if they stay with it just how they're doing now it's perfect. They don't have to directly compare him to Jesus. At this point it works fine with the loose implication.
OK, as someone who loves the religious mock-up gimmick as much as I do, you guys have way better ideas than me. The wine to water thing is hilarious, I would love to see them do that. How about this though, Punk has a title shot, and the Smackdown! before the PPV, they get all of the Straightedge people he has saved and they have a Last Supper style promo. Ah....I love this gimmick.
What made me like it most is that I have two very religious uncles (I have more than that, but only 2 watch wrestling), and they both HATE CM Punk because they say he's a false prophet.
Ehhh, I'm not feeling the whole faction thing. I think Punk picking some "random audience members" would be more than enough. Each week he could come out and save someone, shave their head and cut a promo. Around Mania he'd single out someone on the roster he wants to save. Giving Punk a whole tribe of followers in a way takes away from his original charm of the heel character they created for him.
He was pretty much at the time the only non chicken shit heel in the company, and actual fighting heel in WWE? Imagine that. I was honestly even a little put off by the addition of Gallows. It essentially took the first step in making Punk look weak.
Apparently, WWE feels he has the crediblity to do it. I think R-Truth can get an even larger reaction than he already does if he can defeat Punk and the straightedge society single-handedly but knowing WWE, they'll bring like Cryme Tyme into it
