I agree that Punk vs Austin should not happen, but thats purely out of my concern for Austin's neck. And while the match itself wouldn't be very good, the fued itself, its basis, build and mic segments, would be incredible.

This is what I am concerned about as well.

You say its wouldn't work because Punk and Austin both respect each other? Cena vs Rock is based on the same thing, both have stated that they respect what the other has done professionally. But the fued grew due to personal issues. Punk could be having some segment with Stone Cold where they confess their respect for one another and one of them manages to let something slip that the other takes personal offense with (Punk's straight edge lifestyle would be the obvious choice). And with the utmost professional respect put aside, the seeds are planted of a personal disgust for one another and the fued kickstarts from there, which is exactly what's happened with Rock and Cena except the latter has been brewing slowly for years.

If there is one point I could argue against the fued from a story perspective though, is that Punk would have to turn heel again for it to work. Even if just temporarily. But imo that would still hurt the continuity of his character.

Another point I forgot to mention in my version I was keeping Punk a face.

The neck was another reason for it being a tag match.

Well, Punk could try to play face but the fans would dictate who's what in this kind of feud. So yeah, Punk would be automatically heel most likely.

Now that is the legit worry you could have here against the match however Punk is in a situation given how "cool" his character is that he'd probably actually still get cheered against Austin they just wouldn't boo Austin.

Okay maybe somewhere down the line it might be a good mania main event and you are right a tag match would protect Austin's neck more.

But I do agree with the point that WWE can't keep bring back all these old names for one off matches if they are to progress.

As for the guys who could make it as stars, well I think the booking of The Miz, Bryan and ADR has hurt their movement up the ladder and WWE is to blame for that. Out of the three I see the Miz as the most likely to succeed because of what a natural heel he is, and being a product of WWE's system and being well liked. Sheamus seems on a pretty solid path right now, and with his overall improvement and size I can see him being a factor in or around the main event scene for years. The likes of Barrett and Rhodes are maybes. Both have a lot to offer and there have been signs that they could get big pushes, but given WWE's history I don't think you can too much for granted.

Yes there are a number of good talent who could make the grade, but every time you think management are going to take a chance on one of them they revent back to type.

I'm just saying these guys in the right build up towards Wrestlemania could look like threats to Punk, Cena and Orton.

However for Wrestlemania 30 I want a huge main event so hopefully Daniel Bryan can become a phenomenon but I doubt that.
Yeah they could in terms of building threats and have some guys in Sheamus, Miz, maybe even Cody if they build him right and others so it's not like they can't they just need to take the chances.

They should of gone all out for nxt yrs Mania, a full blown "Attitude Era vs. PG Era" theme

ie;
Cena vs. Rock
Punk vs. Austin
Taker vs. Sheamus (?)
Miz vs. Jericho, etc etc.

Put the new guys over strong, usher in the new era.

BOOM.

But WWE are too pussy to do such things, dont want golden boy Cena to be upstaged.

I wouldn't want to be labelled under the PG Era banner. I'm sure there is a better way they could put it even if it's something like corny like the WWE Universe Era.

Obviously there's still 3 months left of build for Rock/Cena to happen but my biggest worry for a Punk/Austin feud is that once the two step into the ring, Punk will look way out of his depth stood opposite Austin, just like Cena was at Survivor Series amongst The Rock. Another big worry for the feud is how limited Austin would be though due to his previous injuries.

I think Punk is good enough to hold his own against Austin, if the match were to happen which would be main event Austin v Punk or Rock v cena

Very true. I agree.
