You mean when the machine turns off without you holding the PS3 button on the controller and doing it manually? All you do is wait for it to stop blinking and you can turn the machine back on.

You'll have to deal with a system check when you start it back up but everything should be fine.

Nah I tried that and it did it again.

I know I been running through Google. Right now I'm tryin the unplug and let it sit and cool for bout half an hour before turning it back on. I got another result bookmarked that would have me opening the system up and cleaning it.

I'm just curious how many others have had it to see what they tried cause opening it is the last thing I wanna do.

I can't help ya if your machine is actually screwed up, I haven't dealt with a PS3 that has stopped working for me yet. Sorry, man.

Is that the older fat PS3 or Slim/SuperSlim?

Its the fat one.

But I did unplug it and let it sit for bout an hour. It turned on correctly and did a system check and everything seems fine on it. Then I turned it off. I didn't wanna risk playing another game just yet. But it did turn on and was steady which was good.

The red blinking light on fat ones is a sure sign that your PS3 is dying. You could open the console and clean it, check the fan and make it work for a bit more but in the end it will die. The real fix is pricey so its almost better to get a new console.

I'm sorry.

If it turned on and seemed to be working fine after the system check, then you're good. I can't tell you how many times mine just randomly shut off in the middle of a game and had the red light blinking for a bit. Happens at least once every few months and I play the hell out of mine. Some kind of faulty mechanism, you may have just been over-powering the system's memory. If it ever happens again, just make sure you complete the system check on start-up otherwise you may lose all the date of the previous game you were playing.

I'm so hoping it isn't that but it feels like that may be it.

Most of these issues have to do with the soldering coming lose because Sony decided to go with the cheap shit & save money rather than give the consumers a reliable product.

There are things you can do to limit the amout of heat inside the console. Make sure you shut the system off from the switch at the back when it is not in use. Try to avoid using it as a DVD/Blu-Ray player. Keep the room itself at a cooler temperature, or have a small fan beside the system blowing away from the console(or you have to deal with dust getting inside the console).

I do use it as a blu ray player. Not a regular dvd player cause the last time I put a regular dvd in it I heard it goin hard and was like noooooo and took it right out. But my room is always pretty cool so it is cool and it is in open air so it isn't concealed or being heated in a small area or anything. But I'ma try to keep dust out of it.

Just a quick question has it been working fine with everything else? Because I'll say I have an old fat PS3 and it works fine with all the other games I play but I've had plenty of problems with WWE 13 turning the PS3 off, freezing randomly when I try to change a moveset, get into a match, cutscenes in Attitude era, and other places
