Random question:
If you were in the Pokemon World, where would you be from and what starter Pokemon (Eevee and Pikachu don't count) would be your signature pokemon?
I'd either be from Verdenturf and have Mudkip
Or be from Dewford and pick Oshawott
I feel like you'd only get a starter starter if you're near the professor, so I'm going to break the rules and go for something a little different.
My first choice is to live in Goldenrod City in Johto, since it's a nice city with so many things to do. Pokeathelon, right there, radio tower, right there, bug catching contest, right there, day care, right there. On top of that, It has easy access to the rest of the region. Ecruteak City and Violet City are super close, the only roadblocks being the completely safe bug catching contest. Ecruteak of course grants you access to everything else. You could also see the Kimono Shows there with a small travel. If you go south instead, you get to Azalea, and the only roadblock is a relatively safe forest. Also also, since I seriously doubt the ocean would be blocked off IRL, you could easily take a boat to either Olivine or Cianwood. You have so many options in Goldenrod, and if what you're looking for isn't there, then you can get the other cities ridiculously fast.
I think the starter would have to be in a nearby area, since that's as far as you can go without a pokemon. I'm going to filter that down to Route 34-36, since the bug catching contest can skip 35, the contest itself, and Iilex forest since there is a road completely avoiding 34. I'd also say it's a day loadout, because what parent would let their unprotected child go into the wild during a morning or night? Of those five areas, I'd think the pokemon that would catch a young me's eye would either be a Nidoran F or a Vulpix. I do prefer Vulpix to Nidoran, but I also prefer Nidorina to Vulpix, so I guess that depends on short term vs long term. Also, I'd definitely try for a Stantler as my powerhouse. That thing is a BEAST
As for my second choice, Unova's Driftveil City for similar reasons. The PWT is right there, but more importantly, so is everything else. Nibasa City has excellent parks and sports, it's one bridge away. The beautiful Nature Preserve is about two routes away. Pokestar Studios, that's about a boat trip or a small hike away. The legendary Castellia City is a bit more of a walk, needing to pass through the desert, but you could also take a boat since they're both dock cities. On top of that, when you're powerful enough to get past Chargestone, you're in Mistralton, where the planes can take you literally anywhere. As for that pokemon, looking at the surrounding areas, I think I'd try to sneak into Clay Tunnel and grab a baby Aron
