Hopefully someone else can confirm this, but I'd imagine it's so that no one gets your password by mistake (hopefully no one's stupid enough to actually give it out, but with some people here, I tend to wonder) and creates havoc. Unless you enjoy someone ruining your profile here.

It's a good idea. I hope it's across the board for all members. As a practice, you should change all password protected accounts every 60 or so days, sometimes more frequently.

Either Chaos put an update on the board for it or in his paranoia after monkeygate he ticked the passwords expire option.

It only occurs with staff. If you don't want to deal with it every 40 days, you can always step down.

Peep and jersey are correct. The moderator group has that setting every 40 days a password change.
