Make the threads to refresh automatically like every 5 seconds.

That would be incredibly annoying, long posts take more than 5 seconds to read, so does an entire page of posts.

Press the refresh button every 5 seconds or download an extension for your browser.

Wouldn't refresh the page, that means that new posts could be added while it wouldn't interrupt you.

Not unless you got 50 people reading 1 thread.

Wouldn't it be a stress on the server having this?

I wouldn't think so.
I guess you could try in a separate section and see how it goes.

"Thread automatically updates every 5 seconds" on the botton of every thread would make the forum to look cooler and more professional imo.

But think of the future when there is, a feature people are used to and enjoy will have to be removed due to the problems it causes.

WWE Live discussion threads are normally like triple figure pages, ours isn't obviously yet but having this on a day when RAW is on live for example is basically throttling our server.

Yeah, it's a useless feature, I've never seen actually large and organized forums use something like this.

Pretty simple, it would basically be like a shoutbox.
