Oscar "Blade runner" Pistorius charged with murder

PARALYMPIC and Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has been charged with murder over the shooting death of his model girlfriend.
Police spokeswoman Sarah Mcira has confirmed that the 26-year-old has been charged.

Police now have 48 hours to question him and continue investigations before he is brought before the court. Mcira adds that Pistorius could appear in court
within hours.

Pistorius allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend in the early hours of Thursday morning, apparently after thinking she was an intruder, South African news site Beeld reported

Beeld has named the victim as Reeva Steenkamp, a model who had appeared in FHM magazine.

The pair first appeared in public at the South African sports awards in November last year.

Police spokesman Katlego Mogale said a "26-year-old man had been taken into custody for shooting a 30-year-old woman".

Mogale could not confirm if the suspect was Pistorius, saying his identity would be revealed only once he appears in court later on Thursday.

"The deceased was shot four times and died on the scene. It is believed that she was the girlfriend of the accused," said Mogale.

The shooting took place in a house inside an upmarket security compound in Silverlakes, outside Pretoria, he said. Pistorius lives in the compound.

Crazy news, I saw this breaking news whilst I was on a cricket website and one of the South African players tweeted about it. He claims that he thought she was an intruder and so he shot her four times. I am sorry but that is a pretty flimsy excuse and if true I will be amazed. Who just fires randomly at people in the house without first seeing who it is, plus after the first or second shot surely he would have seen who it was. Sounds like a very weak story and I think there is a lot more to this.

There are reports elsewhere talking about previous domestic violence incidents and some witnesses mentioning arguements the day before this happened but I don't know if that is confirmed or just gossip mongering from news websites.

Just a ridiculous situation, if it was truly an accident like he claims all it would have taken is him turning on a light or just calling out and he would have figured it out. It is starting to sound very sinister though and that he just used that as a excuse to coverup the incident.

Even if he did kill because he thought she was an intruder, he will and should still go to jail for a long time. You can't just kill someone and say oops my bad didn't mean that and walk away as a free person. He killed a person with four deliberate shots when he was in no danger so either way he is going to jail.

CNN is reporting that the "intruder" theory is not from police, there were no signs of forced entry and that neighbors have stated it is a very secure estate with no history of intrusion in the area.... Sounds pretty cut and dry to me.

Apparently the neighbors heard arguing before the gun shots as well...so his story of waking up seeing someone and shooting them 4 times thinking they're a burglar is looking very flimsy. Just another douchebag who shot his girlfriend dead because he couldn't handle losing an argument. Us men never win arguments, fact of life, just get used to it.
