Well, it's a smart way to build a midcarder up, however it's not a rule per se. I do think it's the right thing to do though.

@ BKB - I meant that would be his third time if he won, which I didn't want to happen...

@ CMS - There is no rule, but it is pretty much it's purpose to help those guys that can't quite reach the top... Edge was just like that in 2005 he had done it all in the tag division / mid card and couldn't quite get that win that helped him to the big ones, that's what the MITB is used for.... imo

No, it's purpose it's give the championship to a guy who isn't credible enough to beat the top guys. I don't see 2005 Edge, who was already main eventing BTW as "a midcarder who cant make it to the top", the same goes for Rob Van Dam.

If Edge won the MITB and then lost it to a midcarder in a feud it would help the midcarder, give Edge something new to boast about, put over the Ultimate Oppostunist Character, give him the 'taste of his own medicine' treatment, and give Edge a spot at Wrestlemania.

"What does that make CM Chumpion?"

Dunno... You could ask Edge the same thing.

LOL @ Edge ME-ing "in 2005".

A midcard-clusterfuck (i.e. MITB) appearance, being an un-picked world title challenger at a Taboo Tuesday and fueding with Matt Hardy does not a MEventer make.

Edge was Main Eventing in that time, only they weren't singles match main events. He had a triple threat against Benoit and HHH (wait we're suposed to forget about that >_>) and an Elimination Chamber match, then also the taboo tuesday thing which doesn't count as he wasn't chosen. But those are still Main Event matches and if you're in them then I guess you are classified as a Main Eventer of some sort.

Chris Masters was in a triple threat for the WWE title, Mike Knox was in an elimination chamber and Mr Kennedy was in a Taboo Tuesday voting thing. So they're meant to be Main Eventers as well?

No, nobody said Edge was a main eventer in 2005. I said he was main eventing, and seeing how he was in the main events of those PPVs, that's exactly what he did.

And to elaborate more, Evil Austin said the MITB is for a "midcarder who can't make it to the top". Midcarders who can't make it to the top are guys like Shelton Benjamin, Kofi Kingston, William Regal.

MITB is for guys who could main event now and then by their own right already, but will get pushed to the main event with the belt and when winning the championship, not insult our intelligence by beating a credible main eventer

I want Edge to turn face when he returns, to be honest, he's gotten stale as a heel and its definitely time for a change. He better not come back and "shock" the world by winning another WWE/World Title out of the blue.

He's out till January? Looks like I won't be watching much wrestling until then.

I think the Edge/Jericho split angle would have been great to watch had they chosen to go that route. They could have used it to gain Jericho some more heel heat and slowly turn Edge from tweener to face. Edge would have gone into mania as a face against whoever and Jericho could have started his program with Undertaker.
But as I said in another thread I really think some time without Edge will be good thing (injury aside). He was getting a bit stale as of late and it didn't seem they really knew what to do with him anymore. A year without him will only freshen him up and make everyone more excited to see him again.

I don't recall Masters being in a triple threat for the title on PPV. Mike Knox has been in an elimination Chamber match but thats since it got moved to NWO and the match has been way worse as their are two of them, Kennedy wasn't voted in on the Cyber Sunday thing so these hardly count. As CMS said, he was main eventing so to be doing that at the time i guess he could have been called maybe what Rey Mysterio is, a part time Main Eventer or something along those lines as their were a few occasions he was, the guys you listed all had a seperate match each and yeah.

It wasn't a PPV. It was actually a Monday Night RAW main event. John Cena v. Kurt Angle v. Chris Masters. But it was a submission match and it was that night Cena debuted the STFU.
