AVB had nothing to do with the signings. It was all Daniel Levy and his technical director, Franco Baldini.

From what I've read in the past, AVB didn't want Erik Lamela, Nacer Chadli, Vlad Chiriches and Christian Eriksen, instead asking for Hulk, Joao Moutinho and David Villa. He did want Paulinho, Etienne Capoue and Roberto Soldado, so there's hits and misses on both sides.

Also, regardless of how good or bad the signings were making that many changes so quickly was always going to leave them in a bit of a mess. A few signings of high quality would have done.

Just signing multiple top players, against the manager's request, and saying "Here's talent, go win shit" isn't the way to go. It just doesn't work. All manager's have their vision and how they want the team to play and just because a player is talented doesn't mean he'll fit in perfectly. AVB wanted select players, he didn't get them, and paid the price for trying to cater to Levy's demands. It's owners like that who believe money wins trophies and how the player plays is irrelevant.

Tough CL draws for both Man Utd and Chelsea, at least Chelsea have their second leg at home where they are almost unbeatable and will aim to get a draw away. Progress could be key for both's seasons well we know it would be for Utd.

Typical Villa scoring early at home actually means we fuck it up! lol. Who knows what will happen against Man Utd next Saturday.

Credit to Mark Hugues he is doing a good job at Stoke so far I expected them to be struggling near the bottom this season.

It's crazy, Arsenal were nailed on for 4th and now all of a sudden it's turned into a massive battle for it.

I don't see much of a battle I think Everton have too much ground to make up, but I do think Arsenal's title hopes are pretty much gone not least because they have City next.

They need to win the FA Cup now, if they won that coupled with the progress in the league then I think most fans would see that as a good season.

This is how I've looked at it since we advanced to the Semi-Finals. If we finish Top 4 again and win the FA Cup, that's a successful season. We may have come closer to the title than we have in some time, but being firmly entrenched in the Top 4 for the entire season rather than just sneaking in is a positive. Add a trophy to that and we're making progress.

Everton are 6 points behind with a game in hand and still have Arsenal to play at Goodison, it's far from secure.

I think the concern at the moment is that confidence most be pretty low and that is not going to help in the Cup game(s) against sides who will be really up for causing an upset. One bit of good news is that you should have Ramsey back by then.

Liverpool are just a point of Chelsea after last nights win, they are really in form right now and with both Chelsea and City to come at Anfield have to be seen as a major threat. Am starting to wonder...

Think West Ham are safe after last nights win, think Big Sam has done a great job there.

I'd actually like to see Liverpool win the league this season, I like them a little bit more than Man City, and a whole lot more than Chelsea.

Not sure if it's going to happen though. Looks like it's Chelsea's this year.

Well if you think Arsenal were considered underdogs for the title it would be even more of shock should Liverpool end up winning, given they didn't even look likely to finish the top four anytime soon the turn around has been amazing. It would be a great story if they did it, even more so than when they won the champions League given they had a stronger squad back then.
