Fightful had reported that Drew Gulak was released.

Paul Levesque stated that was not true. His contract expired and it was not renewed by them​

A question came in about Gulak's "release" after the report by Fightful. Triple H told the reporter to cite a reputable source in the future and said Gulak was not released, but his contract was never renewed.​

I thought that with the new us federal rules technically those 90 days aren't legally enforceable anyways (still think ppl will b happy to take free money to stay home ).

That being said, will be interesting because we know Dragon loves the guy

They’re not enforceable, but a lot of talents can still technically take it if they want to get paid for 90 days.

It’ll definitely apply to wrestling. If we’re being really truthful, it hasn’t been enforceable for as long as they’ve really been using them. If you fight it legally speaking the courts generally don’t like telling a person they can’t work. Brock Lesnar was able to get out of his when he challenged it.

People seem to think the talent actually get released and then they can't sign anywhere else for that period of time whereas as far as I know, it's more of a 'btw in 90 days we're gonna be releasing you from your contract.' I forget who it is but I believe they tried using someone before who they "released" and they turned it down for obvious reasons.

Yes, and no. Once they get their notice of release, they are released but they do get paid for those 90 days.

I’ve also heard in the past that sometimes talents can get an unconditional release and forgo that 90-day payment, and very few opt to take that but I don’t know how true that is, but I just know one wrestler did jump pretty quickly after release and didn’t wait for 90 days.

See I don’t know about that, because a lot of times it’s more so you can’t work tv for those 90 days. Unless they are just like we’re cutting you, so go ahead and take non tv bookings if you want to. Because back when Bryan got released for the tie thing, he worked a indie show around my area, but it never could be put on the dvd or on tv because of the 90 days

Yeah, I’m like almost entirely positive it’s the way that you’re describing and are often depends on the language of the npncompete as sometimes they can even appear on television but they just can’t wrestle. That happened with Ric Flair even back in the 90s he was allowed to appear on TV in talk show segments but for some reason he couldn’t wrestle.

I definitely do think they’re allowed to take Indy bookings, but they have to be non-televised or taped for DVD.

In non-wrestling context, though, the noncompete clause was definitely something given to somebody that was released from a company, but they were in positions of power or knowledge, and the idea of the clause was that this executive couldn’t go to a direct competitor and give them trade secrets. The idea was that if they were out for a year which was very common for executives by the time they could work for a competitor, they wouldn’t know anything valuable
