I get what you are saying, truly i do.Ugh...
Okay...so now I've had some time to think...let me try
to explain how I read this entire situation.
Look...the definition of a War is a situation or a period of
fighting between countries or groups of people...which
sounds like fine...but the truth is that this AEW/WWE
Wednesday Night situation is not a war...because the
WWE has already won.
They have EVERYTHING. They won when Vince purchased
WCW...and have been "shifting through the ashes" ever since.
(FYI: Those "ashes" are viewable on the WWE Network)
If this was a game of Risk...
Risk (game) - Wikipedia
the WWE would own every territory possible & the AEW
would be floating around in the ocean in a very large &
exciting, high speed boat.
AEW is not about being a competitor for the WWE...as
much as the word "Competition" is used...even by myself.
The AEW CANNOT truly compete (fight a War) with the WWE.
HOWEVER...
They can be a viable alternative for wrestling fans &
especially for those (like myself) who would rather
gargle battery acid than watch the WWE main roster.
(I'll watch Charlotte...& that's it)
Do I want the AEW to succeed? Yes! I want them to
become as big & as popular as they possibly can.
Do I believe they can fight (& win) a war against the
WWE? No.
The only way the WWE will fall is if it burns itself to
the ground...and while it seems like they have been
trying to do that...basically since the end of Mania 30...
I doubt that will ever truly happen...especially with
Triple H seemingly gaining more control & responsibility
with every month that goes by.
That is how I personally view the situation....and as
an Australian who won't get to watch AEW or NXT
till the weekends anyway...the ratings/numbers/
figures don't really mean anything to me.
I just want to watch good wrestling shows that do not
make me cringe & feel embarrassed for being a wrestling
fan.
But here is the thing, while you may not view it as a war and thats fine, WWE does, every deccision they have made in the last several months has been, for the most part, in realiation to AEW, getting Paul and Eric, NXT on Wednesdays, NXT Cardiff on August 31st, not letting superstars leave and practicly holding them hostage, you dont just do that randomly or on a whim, you do things like that if you are at war, and Vince sees this as a war, hes afraid of AEW and he wants to shut them down as fast as humanly possible.
WWE purposefully put NXT on USA Network just so syphon as many viewers as they can away from AEW because they want to make sure AEW doesnt get any bigger, they wanna stomp them out as fast as possible.
AEW on the other hand has said countless times they are just an alternative and they are just focusing on themselves and thats so smart and wise, but like Jericho himself said, its a war to WWE and they will do whatever they have to to stop AEW.
And thats why they put NXT head to head with AEW, they are going to war.
And ive not even talked about the fans yet, there will be constant back and forth of which show is better, between NXT and AEW debates people switching back and forth, ofcourse WWE Network subsribers have it easy, they can just watch AEW on Wednesday and watch NXT the day after.
And yes i get your earlyer point, about DVRing and such, but the thing is thats only a small percent of the overal viewers, majority of people will want to see it live, thats why Twitch is so successful as a platform, people prefer live over pretaped these days, if they can see it live, they will, sure some will DVR one show and watch the othe rlive, but even then think about it, even if you DVR one show and watch the other, its the same thing, your still watching one of the shows and not the other one.
My point is this, yes, i understand you dont see it as a war, i get what you are saying and thats fine, but its just not the case, not in WWEs eyes certainly, not in majority of fans eyes either, everyone sees this as a war, because WWE has turned it into one. WWE could have just not cared about AEW and continued their buisness as usual, but instead the moment AEW was real they made move after move after move in a effort to combat AEW, the list goes on and on. WWE made this a war.
