I think the media and fans will try to downplay the ratings pretty early on. I estimate that NXT will average safely around 1.5 and AEW will hover as low as 0.5. Thats my prediction.
Its worth noteing, this is AEWs first TV show, and if reports are to be believed NXT will have already debuted on USA network by then, its gonna be a historic night so i think AEW will definately get over a million, id wager close to 2 million actually.

I honesty don't really care.

:idk3:
Then why are you here talking about it in the first place?

Regardless you probably should care, these numbers are actually gonna be important, for both AEW and NXT, ratings can be life or death in these situations

Oh the first night they are gonna have a killer rating. I would bet they easily pull in a 2. But then id also bet that the following week they lose about 30-40% of those viewers.

Because I'm trying to dispel the idea/concept of this "Wednesday Night War"

Yeah...well...if the ratings tank & the show(s) fail...then that's life.

Plenty of good to great TV shows get cancelled all the time...
& if AEW can't draw the numbers they need...then nothing I do
or say will change that.

I'd be annoyed...especially if the AEW dies a quick & painful
death...but I'd simply move on after a while.

Plus even if the AEW show fails...I'm sure they could still
put on some great pay per views & keep the brand going.

Ehh...

Honestly...I'm trying to keep my investment to a casual level
here...as I've been burned many times by the WWE before.

Perhaps yeah, i can see that, it honestly all depends on how good the show is, if the show is great and they do a few storylines that make you wanna tune in next week then i can see a large portion tuneing in for the week after. I suspect if the show does as good as it can then it will only lose maybe 20-25% if that.

The importance of their first show and how great it has to be cannot be overstated, they need to set the hook in and keep people coming back for more, they gotta set that hook in for awhile to establish their audience, espacially with NXT every week trying to syphon viewers from them.

Good news for them is they are only expecting atleast 100k viewers, if they get even that small amount its a huge success in AEW and TNT's eyes, which is such a smart and wise mindset to have, aim small miss small, set your standerds realisticly.

The only thing that keeps AEW ratings increase from their first show is if they get CM Punk and debut him on the first night of television so they get the rating boost for the next week. Although i believe if they do sign Punk they will debut him at All Out so they can have him for the first tv taping.

I can understand that, but friend, trying to dispell the Wednesday Night War isnt gonna happen, espacially since, ya know, its real, its going to happen and we will live in it.

You cant stop reality friend lol

I think Punk would definately help, but honestly just having a great show is more then enough to keep people invested, if you make a great show, people will come back, honestly with how many times AEW has beat the odds time and time again i think they will do great for awhile.

Punk though would definately be a huge...huge boost for them.

It isn't real & if you actually read what I stated
earlier in the thread you would understand that
there is no war...

Technology makes this so-called "war" a non-event.

And can you cut out the condescending horseshit please?

You're better than that.

That wasnt my intention, and i did read what you said, but the thing is not everyone DVRs these things, its like 30% when you dive into the numbers, and majority of people are gonna want to watch it live, espacially with how news leaks out and stuff and with how much people will be talking about it.

And even if its somehow not a war for fans (and lets be honest it will be) It will definately be a war in WWE's eyes and AEW's eyes, hell it already is one in their eyes. So either way you look at it, its very much real. Even if you dive back to the Monday Night Wars people could just VCR it but even then it was still very much a war.

All this does is prove ratings don't matter. As a business, they're paying $50 MILLION to air NXT. From the USA Network, that wants the third hour of Raw. That is watching the ratings sink like a rock every Monday night. USA looks at the chance of MORE WWE as a good thing, and I don't blame them honestly...

As for what this means for us as fans. It's all bad news for us, no?

I just think it's a bad idea. So many NXT fans are smarky (like me) and would rather just leave NXT on the Network. First off, because anything on the WWE Network, WWE has 100% creative control over it. Once NXT goes on USA, they will have to conform to any demands USA makes concerning the show. Plus a lot of fans just like the fact that it IS on the network, and therefore no accessible to everyone.

And now, of course, commercials! Sorry, I am all for "If it's not broke, don't fix it." And I will be watching NXT, but not on Wednesday night anymore. I'll be watching AEW live unless they decide to start sucking.

If it's still going to be on the network and easily accessible, then AEW wins the "war" lol

That is fine, but it doesn't solve the issue as to how much control USA will have over the content.

And also, during the Monday Night War, WCW always replayed Nitro immediately after the first broadcast. So you could watch Raw and then watch Nitro immediately after. But Nitro still crushed Raw while doing this.

Ugh...

Okay...so now I've had some time to think...let me try
to explain how I read this entire situation.

Look...the definition of a War is a situation or a period of
fighting between countries or groups of people...which
sounds like fine...but the truth is that this AEW/WWE
Wednesday Night situation is not a war...because the
WWE has already won.

They have EVERYTHING. They won when Vince purchased
WCW...and have been "shifting through the ashes" ever since.

(FYI: Those "ashes" are viewable on the WWE Network)

If this was a game of Risk...

Risk (game) - Wikipedia

the WWE would own every territory possible & the AEW
would be floating around in the ocean in a very large &
exciting, high speed boat.

AEW is not about being a competitor for the WWE...as
much as the word "Competition" is used...even by myself.

The AEW CANNOT truly compete (fight a War) with the WWE.

HOWEVER...

They can be a viable alternative for wrestling fans &
especially for those (like myself) who would rather
gargle battery acid than watch the WWE main roster.

(I'll watch Charlotte...& that's it)

Do I want the AEW to succeed? Yes! I want them to
become as big & as popular as they possibly can.

Do I believe they can fight (& win) a war against the
WWE? No.

The only way the WWE will fall is if it burns itself to
the ground...and while it seems like they have been
trying to do that...basically since the end of Mania 30...
I doubt that will ever truly happen...especially with
Triple H seemingly gaining more control & responsibility
with every month that goes by.

That is how I personally view the situation....and as
an Australian who won't get to watch AEW or NXT
till the weekends anyway...the ratings/numbers/
figures don't really mean anything to me.

I just want to watch good wrestling shows that do not
make me cringe & feel embarrassed for being a wrestling
fan.
