There's hasn't been one since Booker T. Ron Simmons was the first 18 years ago. JYD was the champion in UWF in the 70's. Ron Killings has a short run in TNA. The Rock is the most popular. Why is that I can't count the number of black champions? If there were more someone please tell me.

Is there still any covert racism in pro wrestling? MVP seems to be the best candidate because he's entertaining when he's talking. What seems to be the problem?


If you were to also include wrestlers who are of mixed race, then The Rock & Randy Savage could be included. I think a lot of it stems from the territory system, where a lot of places were probably terrified of fans in certain areas reacting violently to an NWA champ who was black. Modern wrestling hasn't outgrown that kind of thinking. MVP should have been champ before Sheamus ever was.

It's because WWE is a racist company. D'Angelo Dinero could've easily been a black world champion.

No kidding. They call Mark Henry a silverback. I wonder why he isn't pissed about WWE referring to him as an ape. Is it different if Michael Hayes isn't associated?
