Road to Power Struggle/Super Jr. tag League night 6 (October 30) Preview

Niigata sees league reach two thirds distance

enol-1-1.jpg

The middle third of Road to Power Struggle comes to an end in Niigata on October 30. After tonight, only three matches will remain for our teams to fight for a spot in the top two November 4 in Osaka.
Watch live or in English on demand on NJPW World!

Main event: El DespeWato (Master Wato & El Desperado) (4-1) vs Intergalactic Jet Setters (Kevin Knight & KUSHIDA) (3-2)
20231030_SJTL_08-1.jpg

El Desperado and Master Wato wrestle their fourth consecutive main event in Niigata. The spot has done well for the odd couple team, who picked up a pair of wins last week before their victory over IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Champions Drilla Moloney and Clark Connors seemed to finally cement them as a team, if not as friends. Intergalactic Jet Setters also know what it’s like to beat the champs, having done so last week in Korakuen Hall. Can they defeat the Desperado and Wato pairing as well?

7th Match: Los Ingobernables De Japon (Titan & BUSHI) (2-3) vs Catch 2/2 (Francesco Akira & TJP) (3-2)
20231030_SJTL_07.jpg

Titan and BUSHI’s victorious start to the tournament saw them slip in short order with three consecutive losses consecutive losses. That came to an end Saturday as they beat the hot Intergalactic Jet Setters to get to four points. Now they seek to stay in the hunt against Catch 2/2. TJP’s hurting neck has been of concern to the former tag champions, but despite the injury still nagging him, TJP and Akira have connected to two straight wins and a 3-2 overall record. This bout could end up being a crucial one with a key tiebreaker in the week to come; who wins out?

6th Match: Musashi Komatsu (YOH & MUSASHI) (2-3) vs Ichiban Sweet Boys (Robbie Eagles & Kosei Fujita) (2-3)

20231030_SJTL_06.jpg

Ichiban Sweet Boys have had a challenging debut in the Super Junior Tag League, but put the pieces together to stop HOUSE OF TORTURE’s win streak Saturday in Fukushima and advance to four points. Fellow debutants YOH and MUSASHI have had similar ups and downs, and were down at the weekend to share a four point status with the TMDK duo. YOH has more junior tag league trophies than anyone, and if he wants to keep adding to his collection, he and MUSASHI will be looking to get past Robbie Eagles and Kosei Fujita tonight.

5th Match: Just 5 Guys (TAKA Michinoku & DOUKI) (1-4) vs BULLET CLUB War Dogs (Drilla Moloney & Clark Connors) (3-2)

20231030_SJTL_05.jpg

It’s been a hard journey for DOUKI and TAKA Michinoku in the Super Jr. Tag League, with the two only just finally getting their first win on Saturday, and the two definitely still on the bubble of mathematical elimination. Tonight they face the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag team Champions in another difficult match. Yet Connors and Moloney will do well not to look past their J5G opponents- last year DOUKI was in a similar position alongside Yoshinobu Kanemaru when the two faced then champs Catch 2/2 and walked away with the win. Could the same happen tonight?

4th Match: Funky Fire (The DKC & Ryusuke Taguchi) (2-3) vs HOUSE OF TORTURE (SHO & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) (3-2)

20231030_SJTL_04.jpg

Funky Fire dropped a decision to Catch 2/2 at the weekend, putting them on the back foot of four points with four matches left. For HOUSE OF TORTURE, a loss to the Ichiban Sweet Boys Saturday put an end to a three match winning streak, and one win off the top of the table pace. This meeting could well determine the fate of both teams going into next weekend; who gets the two points?

3rd Match: CHAOS (Toru Yano, Tomohiro Ishii & YOSHI-HASHI) vs HOUSE OF TORTURE (EVIL, Yujiro Takahashi & Dick Togo)
20231030_SJTL_03.jpg

The eternal battle of chaotic good and HOUSE OF TORTURE EVIL continues in Niigata. Will these two teams ever settle their differences?

2nd Match: Ren narita & Shota Umino vs United Empire (Great-O-Khan & Callum Newman)
20231030_SJTL_02.jpg

As Great-O-Khan looks to use Jon Moxley as a stepping stone to MJF and the AEW World title, and Shota Umino seeks the IWGP US and UK titles from the waist of Will Ospreay, one of the final preview tags of the series sees the two face off in tag action.

1st Match: Tomoaki Honma, Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Togi Makabe vs Oskar Leube, Yuto Nakashima & Boltin Oleg
20231030_SJTL_01.jpg

Six man action sees the Young Lion group of Nakashima, Leube and Boltin face Tenzan, Makabe and Honma. Can the Dojo trio last against veteran opposition tonight?

Road to Power Struggle/Super Jr. Tag League night 7 (October 31) Preview

League approaches the wire in Toyama

enol-1.png

Night seven of the Super Jr. Tag League sees action hit Toyama on Halloween night. The frightening threat of elimination will be a reality for some of our teams, while front runners want to take the spooky road to success in their pre-penultimate matchups.
Watch LIVE or in English on demand on NJPW World!

Main event: El DespeWato (El Desperado & Master Wato) (5-1) vs Catch 2/2 (TJP & Francesco Akira) (3-3)
20231031_SJTL_08.jpg

The fifth consecutive main event for El DespeWato sees them facing one of the pre-tournament favourites in Catch 2/2. El Desperado and Master Wato’s journey to grudging acceptance and tag team efficacy has been quite something to watch over the last few nights, with a win over Drilla Moloney and Clark Connors being a crowning achievement. Now, they prove a difficult test for Francesco Akira and TJP, especially with the weakened neck of TJP being a target for much of the former champions’ competition. Can they put a stop to the odd couple’s momentum?

7th match: BULLET CLUB War Dogs (Clark Connors & Drilla Moloney) (4-2)vs HOUSE OF TORTURE (SHO & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) (4-2)
20231031_SJTL_07.jpg

After recording a second loss in their tournament to El DespeWato Saturday, IWGP Junior Tag Champions Moloney and Connors felt they could ill afford another black mark on their records. Monday in Niigata they bounced back, moving to eight points and eliminating DOUKI and TAKA Michinoku in the process. Now they look to get to ten against SHO and Kanemaru, who are also threatening the final. Can they beat the IWGP Junior Tag Champions in what is technically a BULLET CLUB derby?

6th Match: Intergalactic Jet Setters (KUSHIDA & Kevin Knight) (3-3) vs Ichiban Sweet Boys (Kosei Fujita & Robbie Eagles) (3-3)
20231031_SJTL_06.jpg

While KUSHIDA and Kevin Knight’s forward steam was stalled by the incredible momentum of El Desperado and Master Wato Monday, Robbie Eagles and Kosei Fujita have picked up two straight wins to get to six points. Now both teams have their backs against the wall, but can they stay in the hunt?

5th Match: Just Five Guys (DOUKI & TAKA Michinoku) (1-5) vs Los Ingobernables De Japon (Titan & BUSHI) (3-3)
20231031_SJTL_05.jpg

DOUKI & TAKA are mathematically eliminated
At just two points, DOUKI and TAKA Michinoku’s chances of making Saturday’s finals are now non existent. BUSHI and Titan are still very much alive, having bounced back from three consecutive losses to now being at six points and certainly in the hunt, albeit with a rough road to the finals. Can they stay alive, or will they fall to two of Just Five Guys?

4th Match: Musashi Komatsu (YOH & MUSASHI) (2-4) vs Funky Fire (DKC & Ryusuke Taguchi) (2-4)
20231031_SJTL_04.jpg

Both teams must win
The 2-4 combinations of YOH and MUSASHI and Taguchi and The DKC have long odds of making it to Power Struggle Saturday. With three matches left, their best hope will be a tie at ten points to get through in second place. Both sides need to win out and have some help; that means one or both of our two teams are certain to be eliminated after this bout- who survives?

3rd Match: CHAOS (Toru Yano, Tomohiro Ishii & YOSHI-HASHI) vs HOUSE OF TORTURE (EVIL, Dick Togo & Yujiro Takahashi)
20231031_SJTL_03.jpg

CHAOS and HOUSE OF TORTURE once again collide in the third match of the night. With the record so far this tour entirely in CHAOS’ favour, things are looking bleak for a team headed by a man calling himself the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion just one month ago. Who picks up the win tonight?

2nd Match: Shota Umino & Ren Narita vs United Empire (Great-O-Khan & Callum Newman)
20231031_SJTL_02.jpg

Shota Umino and Ren Narita once again face off with the United Empire’s Great-O-Khan and Callum Newman. With young member Newman eating repeated losses, it hasn’t been a great couple of weeks for the Unoited Empire side as Shota Umino continues to deliver a message to Will Ospreay. Will things change in Toyama?

1st Match: Tomoaki Honma, Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Togi Makabe vs Oskar Leube, Yuto Nakashima & Boltin Oleg
20231031_SJTL_01.jpg

The night starts with Young Lions and veterans colliding once again for what should be a high intensity start to proceedings in Toyama!

Nearly all caught up as I watch the 28th Show I'm downloading the Show from today. Where I get the New Japan Shows the person if the English Commentary isn't already there won't update the Links with it so I have to just watch the Japanese version. Oh lord these three Young Lions are about to get wrecked by Honma, Kojima, and Makabe :lol

This Newman kid with United Empire has tons of potential but he needs to get that stick out of his ass acting like he's somebody when he's a Young Lion.

Road to Power Struggle/Super Jr. Tag League night 8 (November 1) preview

Penultimate night for league in Ishikawa

enol-1-2.png

The Super Junior Tag League is getting right down to the wire, and November 1 ill see match eight out of nine for our ten league teams. Who will be on the hunt when it comes to Thursday, then Saturday in Osaka?
Watch live or in English on demand on NJPW World!

Main event: Catch 2/2 (TJP & Francesco Akira) (4-3) vs HOUSE OF TORTURE (SHO & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) (5-2)
20231101_SJTL_08.jpg

After TJP and Francesco Akira put a stop to El Desperado and Master Wato’s incredible momentum, the winds of change are blowing behind Catch 2/2. Now pressure is on Catch 2/2 from within, and within the fandom, to stop HOUSE OF TORTURE from reaching the finals November 4. SHO and Yoshinobu Kanemaru stole their own win from IWGP Junior Tag Champions Drilla Moloney and Clark Connors Tuesday, and will seek to steal two more points as the final league match approaches.

7th Match: El DespeWato (El Desperado & master Wato) (4-3) vs Just Five Guys (DOUKI & TAKA Michinoku) (1-6)
20231101_SJTL_07.jpg

DOUKI & TAKA Michinoku are mathematically eliminated
At ten points, El Desperado and Master Wato are sure to at least be in the conversation come November 2. They want to head into the final night in winning form, but with emotional bonds tying El Desperado to his opposition tonight, will his former Suzuki-Gun teammates step up their game enough to get their second win?

6th Match: Musashi Komatsu (YOH & MUSASHI) (3-4) vs Intergalactic Jet Setters (Kevin Knight & KUSHIDA (4-3)
20231101_SJTL_06.jpg

YOH and MUSASHI must win
At six points, YOH isn’t looking likely to be able to score back to back SJTL trophies with different partners. Thin hopes are still alive though, and YOH and MUSASHI will look to spoil Kevin Knight and KUSHIDA to keep it that way. Can the Jet Setters work their way closer to the final?

5th Match: Los Ingobernables De Japon (Titan & BUSHI) (4-3) vs Ichiban Sweet Boys (Robbie Eagles & Kosei Fujita) (3-4)
20231101_SJTL_05.jpg

Eagles and Fujita must win
With a recent loss in Toyama to Kevin Knight and KUSHIDA, Robbie Eagles and Kosei Fujita’s hopes of the finals are looking slim. To stay in the hunt, they’ll try and spoil a Titan and BUSHI on a considerable rise tonight. Will the LIJ side be in the conversation on the final night, or will Ichiban Sweet Boys steal their thunder?

4th Match: Funky Fire (The DKC & Ryusuke Taguchi) (2-5) vs BULLET CLUB War Dogs (4-3)
20231101_SJTL_04.jpg

Any championship team has designs in a tournament like this of going perfect and winning the trophies as champions. The perfect part of that vision hasn’t come true for Moloney and Connors, and the most painful of their losses had to come at the hands of HOUSE OF TORTURE, who outsmarted and outcheated the champs Tuesday in Toyama. Will they bounce back as Clark Connors comes face to face with two men from his recent past?

3rd Match: CHAOS (Tomohiro Ishii, YOSHI-HASHI & Toru Yano) vs HOUSE OF TORTURE (EVIL, Yujiro Takahashi & Dick Togo)
20231101_SJTL_03.jpg

Forever fated in the stars to do battle for all eternity, the time is near at hand for CHAOS and HOUSE OF TORTURE to part for the time being. Who will gain the upper hand before they reunite?

2nd Match: Los Ingobernables De Japon (Hiromu Takahashi & Yota Tsuji) vs BULLET CLUB (Taiji Ishimori & Gedo)
20231101_SJTL_02.jpg

As Hiromu Takahashi returns from action in Las Vegas, he wrestles his penultimate preview match ahead of Saturday’s IWGP Junior Heavyweight title bout. Who will have the upper hand before Osaka?

1st Match: Shota Umino, Ren Narita & Tomoaki Honma vs United Empire (Great-O-Khan, HENARE & Callum Newman)
20231101_SJTL_01.jpg

Kicking off the action, a six man tag match sees Shota Umino and Great-O-Khan continue to try and make a statement ahead of Power Struggle, will HENARE’s return make the difference in the wake of a spate of UE losses?
