Brief Summary:

Pro-wrestling in Japan is often looked at with a mixed perception from the eyes of Western fans. Some love it, others maybe look at it through rose tinted glasses, and then some either refuse to give it a chance or don’t find it their cup of tea. Regardless, the land of the rising sun is no doubt influential when it comes to wrestling with several Japanese stars making the trip across the pacific. Who can forget the legendary career of Jon Snowmantashi in CWA? Or even more recently in American company Fantasy Wrestling Alliance, with Aka Yueri and Katsu being two examples of Japanese talents winning gold in other countries.

Dozens of foreigners, or “Gaijin” also have found themselves carving their teeth in Japan, whether as a way to get experience on their way to stardom back in their homelands, or some find themselves having a career resurgence. Japan appears like a dream landscape for wrestling with a variety of styles from Puroresu, to King’s Road, hardcore Deathmatches that make the toughest squirm, comedy, and any mix. But, many companies find themselves closed off, untrusting of other companies in their homeland. If tribalism is strong in America, it goes to new levels in Japan at times.

But sometimes, doors are broken open, whether it is through a shared cause or just a chance to put on a great show (And do good business), companies do find themselves working together on super shows. Multi-million dollar Japanese media company Nine Tales Entertainment sees a chance to bring several of Japan’s finest wrestling companies, along with potentially some foreign talent, together in a Supercard in the famous Nippon Budokan. The question is: Who will be part of this big card?

Out of Character Notes:

This show is an idea I have had for a while, with FWA having a mini-Universe with other promotions including many in Japan, I have wanted to do a little one off show where we try to give it a Japanese feel, if you will. This thread is an interest check thread, trying to get potential sign-ups or names of people who want to help put it on.

I’ll likely need match writers (along with anyone willing to help put the card itself together). As well, match graders to help determine match results with me… Trust me, I have PTSD judging matches. If you’re interested in doing those things, state below, or message me on Discord.

We will be using the traditional FWA Grading System, as seen in the Information thread for FWA. It is what the fed is familiar with, and I will try not to butcher it, but no promises!

This is also open to non-FWA members. If anything, I encourage people iffy on joining FWA to join here if you want to see if it is for you.

The show’s card will likely be posted after FWA Anniversary as we’re at our Mania show, Back in Business and FWA Anniversary is a big enough follow up show. So by then the fed will be in enough of a lul period to not overwork people. To help, we’ll also have a 2 week promo period. Then the show will be posted- When it is done.

Promos will be limited to either 2000 words or 2500 max. It will be decided once a team gets together and we put the card together. This includes headers.

The word limit is in place to reduce some of the stress of writing promos and in a way, level the playing field a touch and maybe even make it more approachable to non-FWA members if they want to get involved. I know the grandeur of some promos seem intimidating to some non-FFWA members, but if you want to create a character and try it out, this can be a good jumping off point.

If you have an FWA character and wish to bring them in, just state below. Obviously we have a few Japanese talents and some who can maybe make the jump and adapt to Japan. Or you can create a brand new character following the template below.

Entrance:

The lights of the arena flash a light red as cherry petals fall on the big screen. The camera zooms in towards the entrance area as some smoke builds. After about thirteen seconds Katsu makes her way out, her cape flowing behind her, showing her Kitsune inspired mask. She basks in the red spotlight as fire shoots up from the side of the stage, her arms crossed in front of her with an “X,” hands doing the “wolf-head” gesture. The Huntress spins around and does a throat slashing gesture with her pointer finger as the flames shoot higher before making her way down the ramp.

Moving down the ramp at a somewhat quick pace, Katsu removes her entrance mask to show her regular one and she gives a small head tilt while holding it next to her head. Going around the ring, she hands her mask to a younger fan before sliding onto the apron. One hand on the ropes, she opens up her cape and closes her eyes, keeping a calm aura to her. She quickly drops down into the splits then slides into the ring.

Heading to the nearest corner turnbuckles, Katsu climbs up them and puts one foot on the top rope. She does another throat slash before holding her finger down in an “M” formation. Heading down, she leans down in a superhero-like pose, holding her arms in an “X” in front of her chest. Katsu’s hands again have the wolf gesture before she spins around and heads to her corner.

Bellatrix Bordeaux is a dotty young woman who has a generally upbeat and cheerful demeanor but is, however, very childlike in how she acts and speaks, due to her never really growing up mentally after her parent’s death, and is very clueless when it comes to most subjects, including most of how Professional Wrestling works. She relies extremely heavily on the direction given to her by her friends and brother, to the point that she wouldn’t really know what to do without them. Her childlike personality includes the tendency to get overly emotional and worried about generally meaningless things, and she’s prone to having emotional outbursts. She’s loyal to a fault to the point that if she considers you a friend, then she’ll have your back whenever and wherever you need it. Pretty much everyone who’s ever had any interaction with Trixie thinks she’s batshit crazy and stupid, and they’re not particularly wrong in their assessment, but above all of her flaws, of which there are many…and many more than that, Bellatrix Bordeaux has a gigantic heart. She just wants to make friends with everyone. So, in that sense, if you’re nice to Trixie, you’ve made a friend that you probably don’t want, and if you’re mean to Trixie, then you’re the problem because she’s a fucking sweetheart! ;P

Human Punching Bag/Missile with Legs/Catfight style. Basically, due to her severe lack of knowledge and training in Professional Wrestling, Trixie’s offense pretty much consists of punching, slapping, scratching, clawing, headbutting and kicking her opponents until they stop trying to beat her up. She also has a knack for just launching her own body into her opponent, which usually results in her taking as much, if not more damage than her victim. Trixie also loves jumping off of things, which again, usually doesn’t end well for her. Her matches usually consist of her taking an extraordinary beating and continuously trying to fight back however she can. She’s not strong, she’s not fast, she’s not ring savvy, she’s got pretty much zero experience and has very limited training, but one thing she is is tough. She has no quit in her, and her pain threshold is almost superhuman. She’d sooner die than tap out, possibly because she doesn’t know that tapping out is an option. If she loses, it’s because she was put to sleep one way or another, and if she wins, it’s done in the most underdog way possible, but one thing’s for certain…she gave it everything she had, and then some.

Gimmick: In recent history, pro wrestling in North America has targeted
some of the best JOSHI wrestlers the rising sun has to offer, however
unlike others, Yuna certainly stands out as more “Colourful” a former
fencer having represented Japan in the 2014 Olympic games, she had
been able to transport her lifelong obsession with “Pirates of the
Caribbean” into a persona that has maximized her likeable personality.
and has plundered the wrestling world for years

It’s fair to say that Yuna is a slightly unusual wrestler, as well as a pirate.
Does she want to plunder and get her hands on ill-gotten gold? Absolutely.
But that’s a secondary motivation to her. Her philosophy and her
motivations aren’t based on wins and loses and winning
championships. She fights for what she believes is a higher cause; That
wrestling should first and foremost, be FUN. Above personal ambition.
Above personal records. Art and Silly entertainment should be the central
pillar of wrestling, and anyone who disagrees should be wiped from the
earth in the zaniest way imaginable. The established order main event
guys-BORING. People who parade around in three-piece suits talking
about how great they are? BORING. A stable full of bad guys? BORING.
Evil GMs? DOUBLE BORING, and rest assured they’re all on Yuna’s hit list
Oh, she also bears a deep seeded hatred for Danny Toner, and has vowed
to cut him to ribbons if she’s ever in the same space as him.

Disposition: Face

Wrestling Style: Standing a grand Five foot and a single inch, there will be an instinct to
take Yuna Funanori lightly; short in stature and hardly intimidating but do
so at your peril; Like all of JOSHI wrestlers, she has been trained with a
emphasis on stiff strikes and explosive suplexes and, of course, instilled with
that “Warrior spirit” of never backing down; she has been fighting off opponents bigger to her since her debut, so she’s well adapted to fighting underneath her foes. Often looking to tire them out in the early stages of a match before targeting their legs and ankles, looking to take away their
vertical base as soon as she can with low drop kicks and kickboxing like shoot kicks

Many believe Yuna is half-crazed or near suicidal as she’s shown a
complete disregard for her physical well-being, seemingly more than happy
to dive off anything and everything in the name of stealing the show. She's
willing to take any crazy bump and to do any insane dives...Diving off of
stages, balconies, ladders, and sword fights. Even on one occasion, she brought
a loaded pistol to the ring.

All in the name of FUN. Basically, you put her in a No DQ match...things are going to get crazy fast. Funanori has gained a reputation for unique “Cannonball” forearm attacks, STIFF as hell rapid-fire forearms that make a large part of her attacks. Of course, it should be noted that Yuna is a pirate and therefore isn’t afraid to take a few short cuts to get a win, Lie. Cheat. Steal. Viva La Rasta.

Speaking of stealing, she has been known to steal the possessions of the
people she beats. Entrance attires, hats. Coats. That kind of thing.
Also, she comes out with a freaking sword; that’s something to watch out for in No DQ situations.

It should be noted that while her actions might seem playful, she has
proven to be a master of mind games; just last year, The Afflicted was
running strong and Lord Vincent Blackbird was bulletproof. It took her
three months to tear them down and drive Vincent Blackbird into hysterics
all while barely getting in the ring with them, and of course, Trevor Ocean
has not recovered from his mental break after Yuna's dog napping attempt.

Bio:
-Born in a sea shanty town off of Toyko; she was born to an Japanese
fisherman and a mother who died in child birth, even with that Yuna
always said she never felt lonely as a child and that “She was raised by the
sea” having been brought on several fishing trips in her youth, she felt as comfortable on a boat as she was on land.

-It was around the age of seven Yuna’s life changed forever; Her father
had scrimped and saved and eventually was able to afford a day at
Disneyland Toyko, which only a few hours to spend at the park, obviously
there was only so many rides they could go on. And if Space Mountain
wasn’t closed, and the line for Snow White wasn’t insane. Yuna’s path in
life might have been totally different. She was already excelling at fencing,
if Yuna wasn’t afraid of the haunted mansion, she may have followed a liner
path in life, A gold medalist in the marking, but instead, Yuna’s life changed with a few simple words;

“Ahoy there, crew! For your safety, remain seated, keeping your hands,
arms, feet, and legs inside the boat—and watch your children. And no flash pictures! Prepare to make sail!”

Yuna left the Pirates of the Caribbean ride an entirely different person then
she entered, from that moment on, she was hooked on the strange English
man at the end of the ride and the world around him, She watched the
movies so many times, it was how she learned English, she created her
own outfit, and would run around town with a pointy stick challenging
strangers to duels. It was generally considered this was just a phase she’d grow out of it

-She did not.

-In the meantime, she had a successful career in fencing, even going to
representing Japan in Brazil Olympic games. However, after the games, she
retired from the sport and instead began training in various forms of
martial arts for her debut in pro wrestling, what the JOSHI world was expecting a former Olympic fencer, a serious competitor coming to make her mark in the world of wrestling.

...What they weren’t expecting was the same serious competitor coming out to the ring dressed as a pirate.

The rest is history.

the greatest master of disguise the wrestling world has ever seen. There is a
famous quote written in regards to Sherlock Holmes that could easily be applied to Yuna Funanori

"The stage lost a fine actor, even as science lost an acute reasoner, when
he became a specialist in crime."

When pushed Yuna can blend in perfectly with her surroundings, utterly
undetectable to her fellow wrestlers; She could enter a room looking like
Yuna Funanori, and she can exit the room looking exactly the same but now..wearing a fake mustache.

“Um, no; that woman is clearly wearing a fake mustache. Yuna Funanori

She’s so convincing in her disguises that no one seems to ever question the

Yuna Funanori runs from the backstage area with more of

Blackbird is chasing after her!

Rod Sterling: Yuna is still dressed as Lord Vincent's
"assistant" with glasses and a nice dress suit. But the "gig" is up, as they say.

We all knew Rod Sterling was a smart man, but to simply eye ball Yuna
from a distance and be able to tell it was her, shows a near mythical level of
mental calculation simply unheard of. We don’t know where Rod Sterling
developed these skills, is he some kind of special ops agent in his part
time? Is he some kind of wizard? We have no way of knowing. The point
is, it has now established in canon that Rod Sterling is the
smartest man in FWA by a country mile, so logically he should
never show confusion or ever say a statement that is ever

They were childhood friends, mostly because while Lio was known for being a small kid, Tomás would have his back and beat up any bullies trying to pick on him. (Some cynical people would claim that the only reason why such a Meh wrestler had the career he's had is due to being in the inner circle of a man whose treated like a God among mortals in Argentina, opened doors that would normally stay closed )

Like his friend, Mendoza went into sport, choosing basketball for obvious reasons; being head and shoulders taller than everyone else gave him a natural advantage, so much so that he was a member of the 2004 Argentine Olympic basketball team that won gold. Even bagging himself an NBA LA Clippers draft pick. Unfortunately, the NBA turned out to be a lot more complicated than "Give the ball to the really tall guy", and he was found out for his lack of coordination and skill and was quietly fired two years later.

Never fear though, he managed to land on his feet as his old friend Lionel Messi managed to score him a job as Barcelona Football Club's head of security, and he made a very healthy living that way, and if that's where his story ended that would be a pretty cool living, his destiny changed however as a promotor saw him working out in a gym one day and asked him if he ever considered pro wrestling as a career.

And again, if that's where his career ended, that would be a nice little spot for a man with minimal talent...

....Enter DJPW and SUPER MASSIVE DESTROYER.

Super Massive Destroyer was a fairly popular anime show in Japan in which several cool, radical friends fought crime, using the power of friendship would call forth the giant killer robot from space-SUPER MASSIVE DESTROYER.

As Japanese wrestling wanted to do, both the bookers of DJPW and the merchandise people of the show saw a lot of potential cross-over appeal. So the question remained; who in the wrestling world was big enough to play the role of a giant killer robot?

...You see where this is going, right?

And so, Tomás Mendoza donned the ridiculous outfit and became a SUPER MASSIVE DESTROYER, which caused merch sales of the show to spike...but there was one issue. SMD's lack of coordination and clumsy ring work created some of the WORST matches the wrestling world has ever seen. Often winning "Worst gimmick" and "Worst wrestler" of the year in several wrestlings magazines, DJPW undaunted went for broke by having him do nothing but squash jobbers for almost two years to build an unstoppable monster vibe for him, much to the horror of fans worldwide.

So when it came to picking talent for this once-in-a-lifetime show...DJPW had to summon THE SUPER MASSIVE DESTROYER
