I'll trust you on this one, you certainly know more about this squad than a dude across the country who sees them on Red Zone every now and then. There's been a ton of great coaches who arguably should have been fired at one point, so just preaching patience on principle with this one. But after they couldn't stop the Jamaal Charles Screen Play they HAVE to get rid of the DC at the very least. That was fucking ridiculous no matter how much you loved smacking Senhor with that.
Heard a lot about them "bungling the McGloin situation". What happened witth all of that.
Pryor had played well early--- we competed week 1 in Indy, beat the terrible Jags, beat San Diego... anyone watching the games knew it was thanks to Pryor we were competing, he gave the team an undeniable spark and its why he won the job in preseason.
He gets hurt in the Giants game (he had been struggling at this point) and they coaches go with McGloin, who then beats the terrible Texans in his one big moment. McGloin never looks decent again for the rest of his playing time but mysteriously keeps the job of TP, who had us at least looking more lively.
Now my theory is this regime, being Reggie/DA, never wanted Pryor to become anything. He was an Al Davis pick and one they had no hopes for. Essentially, we were tanking the season. Nobody can say that obviously, but we were. Pryor won us 3 of his first 5 starts and that didn't look so good on our tank campaign. Here is what I think they see in Pryor, and they very well may be right, but who knows.
-Not a long term answer
-Short term boost that can squeeze the most out of bad teams
-Tebow-esque thrower (stats back this up sadly)
-Again, not the long term answer.
So essentially they went to McGloin because 1.) He had beaten the Texans on the road so they had the excuse 2.) He gave us less chance to steal games and 3.) to see if he could be a long term answer at backup QB. We've found out that I don't even think McGloin can be #3, a decent long term back up.
Anyhow, advance to week 17 and DA announces Pryor as the starter. Why? He said to get one last evaluation of TP in . TP's agent, and I, both scream bullshit. They wanted to throw him in to
1.) Prove themselves right to stick with McGloin when TP shit the bed.
or if by some miracle he performed:
2..) Up his trade value.
TP did a mix of both, proving DA right in the first half and playing decently in the second half. I fully expect him to be traded for whatever peanuts we can get this offseason.
now, how much of the QB situation was DA and how much was Reggie? I'm inclined to believe Reggie had his hand in that cookie jar, which pisses me off as well.
The bad part is I'm no more sold on Reggie as GM than I am DA as HC, but it seems I'm stuck with both for at least 2014
