I've heard he's improved but I never watch NJPW Strong. Wonder if he'll be on the Japanese shows or just stay on Strong? Guess we'll see.

I wouldn't even say improve tbh bc I always thought Darren Young was a good "ring general" archetype when he was in WWE. He had 0 personality and only thrived on the C and D shows like Superstars and Main Event where he just wrestled, but having watched him there, I'm not surprised at all by how much I've been enjoying him on NJPW Strong if that makes sense lol

Here's the Strong lineup for this week, X-DIVISION CHAMPION JOSH ALEXANDER DEBUTS :mark:

EPISODE_45_03-1.jpg

When Satoshi Kojima made his STRONG debut two weeks ago, he did so alongside Karl Fredericks against team Filthy’s JR Kratos and Danny Limelight. Hard hitting super heavyweight Kratos instantly had his ire drawn by Kojima, and refused to yield an inch to the living legend. That led to some violent in-ring collisions during the match, and an intense pull apart brawl after it. Now Kojima and Kratos meet one on one in a match that will be crucial to Kratos’ claim of being the Most Feared, and toughest big man on Friday nights.
EPISODE_45_02.jpg

Two weeks ago on NJPW STRONG, former partners collided when Barrett Brown and Adrian Quest squared off one one one. Brown had an intriguing new ally for the bout, as Bateman lent words of advice to Brown before getting involved in the finish; just as Quest was about to finish Brown off the top rope, Bateman hopped on the apron and caused enough of a distraction for Brown to pick up the roll-up victory.

To Fred Rosser, Bateman was a ‘bully’ intervening in Brown and Quest’s issues. The Suntan Superman volunteered his own services to Quest, which Young Fuego accepted; now he teams with Quest to take on Brown and Bateman in this tag team clash.
EPISODE_45_01.jpg

Last week on STRONG, Alex Coughlin fell short in a hard fought battle with BULLET CLUB’s gargantuan Young Gun Hikuleo. Far from letting the loss get the better of him however, Coughlin instead said he had the time of his life, and demanded that he face all comers going forward. This week then, the first match in Coughlin’s open challenge match series will put him opposite IMPACT Wrestling’s X Division Champion, Josh Alexander. With both Coughlin and Alexander extremely proficient amateur grapplers, this is an excellent matchup on paper. Alexander has beaten El Phantasmo on IMPACT programming recently, but could Coughlin upset the Walking Weapon?

is this like a mini super show?

Kind of, they do a weird schedule. The show is legit just 1 hour a week, every week. But the first few eps of a month will be a "Road to..." and the last episode or sometimes two of a month will be like the main show, mirroring NJPW's schedule. But they're all in the same arena and shit lmao

Oh yeah it's the same guy as in NWA , I saw him on NJPW Strong way before tho. He's part of Team Filthy, teams with Danny Limelight a lot. Great fun.

Oh man the Naito/Sanada autograph stuff was fucking great now that I'm caught up :lol

Also idk, could just be in my head bc Kevin Kelly ain't even acting like it's a thing on commentary but when Taiji was talking about challenging Desperado for the singles belt, ELP was looking NOT happy, but then he was later so idk

Ayy yo :WOW so Strong announced a Tag Team Turbulence tournament and the Good Brothers were revealed as a team, nice. Here's the full lineup for the first round:
  • The Good Brothers vs. Clark Connors & TJP
  • Yuji Nagata & Ren Narita vs. Fred Yehi & Wheeler Yuta
  • Kevin Knight & The DKC vs. Jorel Nelson & Royce Isaacs
  • Brody King & Chris Dickinson vs. JR Kratos & Danny Limelight
Also cool that they're letting Violence Ultd. from ROH become a thing here with Brody and Chris Dickinson lol that match against Team Filthy in round one will probs be the best of the first round.

Strong was great this week btw. Kratos/Kojima was a ton of fun, as was Alexander/Coughlin. Also oddly excited for the Bateman/Rosser match that was set up from the tag match :lol

NJPW Strong (5/25/21) Preview
With a lot of attention on Friday nights after the announcements of Tag Team Turmoil in July and Resurgence in front of live fans on August 14, even more eyes are flocking to Friday nights. This week, the main event of Ignition will be key as we determine who will be carrying the torch for STRONG as we count down to The Torch at LA Coliseum!
Main event: STRONG Openweight Championship- Tom Lawlor vs Karl Fredericks
EPISODE_46_03-1.jpg

The main event of Ignition sees ‘Filthy’ Tom Lawlor heading into his second defence of the STRONG Openweight Championship against karl Fredericks. After Lawlor defeated Chris Dickinson at Collision to defend his new title for the first time, Fredericks was quick to challenge. Before the Lawlor and Dickinson title match, an elimination bout saw Fredericks direct Lawlor over the top rope, eliminating him. That inspired the Alpha Wolf to make his challenge, but he would only receive derision in response. Lawlor would decry ‘Blue Wolf’ Fredericks, making the point that he was not pinned or submitted, and certainly a championship environment is a very different set of circumstances for Fredericks.

Yet Lawlor is at risk of looking past his young challenger. As Lawlor’s Team Filthy partners JR Kratos and Danny Limelight have learned the hard way in recent weeks, Fredericks has hit a new level of intensity of late. With the chance to represent STRONG on the big stage of The Torch in LA at Resurgence as added motivation, Fredericks should not be ignored, and may not be denied.

2nd Match: Rocky Romero vs Clark Connors
Singles record: 2-0 Romero

EPISODE_46_02.jpg

Speaking of new levels of intensity, Clark Connors has found just that ever since shunning the traditional black trunks and graduating from the LA Dojo to become the ‘Wild Rhino’. Connors has been a force of nature ever since, and is eager to show the whole world that he is not to be messed with, nor educated anymore; that instead he has harsh lessons of his own to mete out.

One of the people to whom he has a point to prove is Rocky Romero. Rocky’s two career victories over his Ignition opponent tonight both came while he was a Young Lion, and when Connors and the DKC teamed up to face Rocky and Lio Rush two weeks ago, the Wild Rhino elected to stampede right through Romero. A wild post match brawl broke out as a huge crowd fought to hold Connors back from Rocky; a singles meeting was inevitable, but who emerges victorious?

1st Match: Fred Yehi & Wheeler Yuta vs LA Dojo (The DKC & Kevin Knight)
EPISODE_46_01.jpg

Tonight’s action kicks off with a special preview of Tag Team Turbulence. The new combination of Fred Yehi and Wheeler Yuta, as well as the LA Dojo side of Kevin Knight and the DKC are two of the eight teams that will be in the first round of the tournament on July 16, and clash with one another Friday as well.

Yehi and Yuta impressed greatly on their debut a couple of weeks ago, and even amid tough competition including Violence Unlimited, the Good Brothers and more besides, are already being considered among the tournament favourites. Conversely, Knight and the DKC, still progressing as Young Lions, are the rank outsiders for the tournaments, but will be looking to show tonight that they are not to be dismissed. As all four men have something to prove, you can’t look away from STRONG from the opening bell this week!
