The original ending had Derek's (Edward Norton) character reverting back to being a racist as a result of his brother's death. Would you find that better or worse? (Don't answer that, it's rhetorical.)

That would have completely killed the point of the movie (or maybe not, depends on how you look at it) but as an alternate ending, it would have been pretty interesting/surreal to see it happen on-screen.

My point was, how can you not understand how one side is more sensitive to racial issues than the other?
