Dirk wants D12. I'd love for this to happen. If they can grab Dirk or Bynum and upgrade at Point the Mavs could become contenders if Dirk is healthy for the majority of next season.

The Knicks and the Raptors agreed to a deal Sunday that would bring Bargnani to New York in exchange for Steve Novak, Marcus Camby and a first-round draft pick in 2016, according to a person involved in the talks.
The trade was cast into limbo Sunday night when the N.B.A. did not immediately grant approval, but both teams still expect to complete the deal in the coming days. Because of the delay, the Knicks will have to add one low-salaried player to make the deal work under cap rules.
Also, consummation of the deal will have to wait until July 10, after the league’s moratorium on trades and signings is lifted.
Bargnani, a 7-foot, 255-pound forward-center, has never delivered on his potential, averaging 15.2 points and 4.8 rebounds while playing consistently poor defense in seven seasons with the Raptors. Though advertised as a shooter, he made only 30 percent of his 3-point attempts in the last two seasons.
Bargnani is owed $22.25 million over the next two seasons, and unloading his contract was a top priority for Masai Ujiri, the Raptors’ new general manager. (The contract includes a 5 percent trade “kicker,” which would cost the Knicks an additional $1.1 million over two years.) The deal is essentially a marriage of convenience for the Knicks, who desperately need frontcourt help but have limited options in free agency because they are far over the salary cap. For all his deficiencies, Bargnani is a capable scorer, and the Knicks are getting him without giving up a major rotation player.
Camby, 39, hardly played last season and is owed $8.6 million over the next two years, although only $1.03 million is guaranteed in 2014-15. Novak, once regarded as the Knicks’ 3-point ace, was squeezed out of the rotation. He has three years and $10.9 million left on his deal.
Season-ending injuries to Rasheed Wallace and Kurt Thomas left the Knicks’ frontcourt depleted. They have continuing concerns over Amar’e Stoudemire, who had surgery on both knees last season.
The Knicks tried to obtain Bargnani last year by offering Stoudemire to the Raptors in an exchange of unwanted contracts. A potential deal along those lines was vetoed by the Knicks’ owner, James L. Dolan.
Getting Bargnani, who turns 28 in October, at least stabilizes the frontcourt rotation, providing a backup to Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler and a safety net behind Stoudemire. Bargnani could help stretch defenses and keep the driving lanes open for Anthony, and he fits with the Knicks’ recent move to small ball.
The Knicks are under immense pressure to improve their roster to keep up with a rapidly improving Eastern Conference — and to stay relevant in their own city. The Nets made a deal last week to acquire Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, two likely Hall of Famers, from the Boston Celtics.
Although they finished second in the East last season with 54 wins, the Knicks were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs by the Indiana Pacers. They will need serious upgrades to contend with the Pacers and the Miami Heat. With the Nets improving and the Chicago Bulls getting Derrick Rose back from an injury, the Knicks could slip to fifth in the conference.
Because they are over the cap and well past the luxury-tax threshold, the Knicks have limited options in free agency. They have only the so-called mini-midlevel exception, worth $3.18 million, to spend, and minimum contracts. They could lose J. R. Smith, Chris Copeland and Pablo Prigioni.
The first-round pick claimed by Toronto in 2016 could be the Knicks’ or the Denver Nuggets’, whichever is worse, because the Nuggets have the right to swap picks that year.
