Too many rules I don't understand the trade system in the NBA.

So how can Lakers afford to pay for Dwight, Kobe and Nash let alone the rest of the roster if they are giving Dwight and Kobe (I assume) max offers.

No loyalty in the NBA. It's all about the money.

Is there a bloody reason why Howard hasn't chosen a team yet? Apparently he wants a ring, well he could do so at either Nets or Lakers, so why doesnt he just pick a team and get on with it?

The Lakers just have to match salaries within 25%. Bynum and a deal like say McRoberts expiring for 3mil accomplishes that, of course there would be more salaries. Bynum and Howard are eligible for the same extension amount because of years in the league. The Lakers would just have to pay the tax, which they have done dating back to 01, when Shaq got his first extension. Cause it is a trade both players and teams would have the rights as if they are on their old team, called bird rights which were made so teams can go over the cal to keep their own players.

Nash was signed and traded with his bird rights, that was created from an exception the odom trade to Dallas created worth 8.9 mil and which would have expired in Decemeber

Lost me completely lol.

Let's go back a few steps. The Lakers can afford to pay Dwight and stay "under" the salary cap for two reasons.

1. The salary cap is a "soft cap." The NHL and the NFL, for two examples, have hard caps. There is a set dollar amount, and no team can spend more than that amount on its players. In the NBA, teams can go over the salary cap. Indeed, most years, many teams are over the cap. The salary cap only applies to other teams' free agents. The Lakers can re-sign every player on their team to a huge contract if they want, even if it takes them over the salary cap. Deron Williams, who was a free agent this summer, could not have come to the Lakers unless he accepted a minimum contract (there are exceptions, but for simplicity's sake we'll ignore them for now).

2. Teams over the salary cap are allowed to make trades as long as the salaries of the players being traded are close. The Lakers aren't just hypothetically bringing in Dwight Howard. They're also sending out Andrew Bynum, who makes nearly as much. If/when the Lakers complete the trade for Howard, he's their guy and they can sign him to a big extension.

Hope this helps!

The whole "salary cap" system in the NBA is a joke, it's got more loopholes than the american tax system.

You wonder why that league has no parity and only 6 or less teams have legit shots at the finals.

The loopholes are actually designed to help all teams keep their star players, believe it or not.

Dwight Howard is about as dumb as a stump. There is no rhyme or reason on why he says things or does something.

Lakers should just keep Bynum.

Of course he's saying that, because of the dumb rule where he can only get the maximum extension by waiting until the off-season to re-sign.

Yeah the new CBA fucked that up. Guy loses out on 2 yeasr and over 30mil in salary unless if he doesn't let his deal expire and sign back with the same team in the summer.

Shannon Brown re-signs with Phoenix and Jordan Hill re-signs with LAL

I get why he did it just don't get the point in waiting this long to flat put it out there that no matter where he is dealt he will test free agency.

Suns resigning Shannon is okay I guess as a plan D. He looked good as a starter but not overly excited about it but am liking how the Suns look overall with how much versatility they have.

Surprised Hill loved LA that much. He took 2 years, 7.5mil over, 3 years 15mil from Minny. Thought he was a goner.

Shannon was a cheap add for Phoenix too. Nice to see him show consistency, opt out of the second year of every deal, then wait a minute, and sign back wht the same team. LOL he did that shit 3 times with the Lakers

So yeah those are the elite man defenders in the league. Melo gets a ton of shit but his individual D numbers are good, just like his iso number for scoring, he just doesnt believe in help D effort. Also, LeBron can be posted up and Kobe can let the roll guy score on switches

That's kinda the good thing in the end I guess that they didn't commit a bunch of money to a shooting guard like they planned to. Suns should somewhat be more of the 7 seconds or less style like they were in 04-05 so he could have a career year or he'll make me shake my head.

LMAO blame Phil .... He the one who told him he had a green light. Fool got up 9 shot per in 16mins two straight years. To put that in perspective Odom used to get 10, Bynum 11, and PAu 13 lol
