Press Statement: Butt Hertz to Compete in WRC3 with Castrol Rally Group

TUuNVDY.png

Castrol, the main sponsor of Butt Hertz, is proud to announce their support for Hertz’s entry into the 2022 World Rally Championship (WRC3) season. As part of the new agreement, Castrol will fund Hertz’s participation in up to five races across the WRC3 calendar, marking a significant milestone in his rally career.

Butt Hertz will drive under the banner of the “Castrol Rally Group” for the 2022 season, a move designed to clearly distinguish his participation in WRC3 from his ongoing involvement in the European Rally Championship (ERC). This decision comes as a part of Hertz’s strategic push to compete at the highest levels of rallying while maintaining his presence in the European circuit.

Butt Hertz: "I’m thrilled to partner with Castrol for my entry into WRC3. This is an incredible opportunity to showcase the skills I’ve developed in the European Rally Championship, and I’m excited to take on the challenges of the WRC3 calendar. I’m especially grateful for the support Castrol has shown me, and I’m proud to represent the Castrol Rally Group this season."

wrc3.jpg

The decision to enter up to five WRC3 races allows Hertz to gain valuable experience in the world’s premier rally championship while balancing his commitments in the ERC. The Castrol Rally Group’s backing ensures that Hertz has the resources and support needed to compete at the top level and continue to build on his rallying career. Butt Hertz will compete in the following confirmed rounds of the WRC3:

- Round 2: Rally Sweden – 24 February to 27 February
- Round 5: Rally Italia Sardegna – 2 June to 5 June
- Round 7: Rally Estonia – 14 July to 17 July
- Round 11: Rally New Zealand – 29 September to 2 October

The destination of the fifth race in the WRC3 calendar for the Castrol Rally Group and Butt Hertz is yet to be confirmed. This decision to compete in up to four rounds, alongside his commitments in the European Rally Championship (ERC), will allow Hertz to focus on gaining crucial experience in one of the world’s most prestigious rally series and make him eligible to compete for the crown.

Butt Hertz: "I am beyond excited to compete in these key rounds of WRC3 with the Castrol Rally Group. Rallying at the world championship level will push me to the next level as a driver, and I’m grateful for the opportunity Castrol has provided. Each of these events is a new challenge, and I’m eager to test myself against the best. Taking part in the WRC3 isn't so much about winning, but rather getting that extra bit of experience as I develop as driver in this tough environment."

Castrol Rally Group's backing ensures Butt Hertz will be equipped with the necessary resources and support for a strong campaign across these four key WRC3 rounds. It will also mean that Butt Hertz will have two different Ford Fiesta Rally3 car that take part in both competitions, even if he is likely to have the same mechanics and garage supporting him. No confirmation has yet been mad in regards to whom his Co-driver will be.

2022 Dakar Rally – Stage 4 Recap (January 5, 2022)
(Al Qaisumah → Riyadh | Total Distance: 707 km | Timed Section: 465 km)

The longest timed special so far in the 2022 Dakar Rally put drivers and navigators through 465 km of relentless desert terrain, demanding ultimate focus and endurance. As the rally headed south from Al Qaisumah to Riyadh, the competitors tackled a grueling mix of dunes, open desert tracks, and rocky sections, with extreme temperature changes making conditions even tougher.

For Team Penske’s debut entry, Juice Millar and Tommy Bedlam faced their biggest Dakar test yet, with the long-distance stage testing their endurance, navigation, and vehicle durability.

images

Stage 4 – The Longest Challenge Yet
Route:
Al Qaisumah → Riyadh
Total Distance: 707 km (Timed Special: 465 km)

Terrain Breakdown:
✔️ 45% dunes & deep sand – Endless rolling dunes, requiring careful power management.
✔️ 35% rocky & technical sections – High risk for punctures and suspension damage.
✔️ 20% fast desert tracks – Where speeds exceed 170 km/h, but navigation is critical.

With over 700 km of total driving, today’s stage was about pacing, strategy, and endurance, with competitors aiming to survive the grueling conditions and position themselves well for the second half of the rally.

Team Penske Faces Their Toughest Day Yet!
- Juice Millar and Tommy Bedlam showed resilience in their longest Dakar stage so far.
- Lost time in the dunes after getting stuck but recovered well.
- Continued strong mechanical performance from the Penske Dakar Prototype.

Juice Millar on Stage 4:
"That was a warzone out there. We got stuck in a dune for a few minutes, and digging yourself out in 40-degree heat is brutal. But we’re still here, still moving forward, and learning every single kilometer."

Tommy Bedlam on navigation challenges:
"This was the hardest stage so far, no doubt. Some of the waypoint markers were really tricky to spot, and when you’re second-guessing yourself in the middle of the desert, it’s nerve-wracking. But we didn’t lose too much time and kept it together."

Ty Gibbs Questions Tommy Bedlam’s Dakar Involvement – Calls It "Foolish"
As Tommy Bedlam prepares for his rookie Xfinity Series season with Team Penske, he’s already faced his first bit of NASCAR controversy—this time from none other than Ty Gibbs.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver, set to return to the #54 car, publicly questioned why an Xfinity Series rookie like Bedlam would choose to spend his offseason co-driving at Dakar, calling it a "foolish way to prepare for the big leagues."

Ty Gibbs on Tommy Bedlam’s Dakar Participation:
"I don’t get it. You’ve got your first full Xfinity season coming up, the biggest opportunity of your life, and you’re spending the offseason running around in the desert reading maps? If I was him, I’d be focused on getting better in a stock car, not wasting time playing navigator in some off-road rally."

Gibbs, known for his aggressive driving and outspoken personality, didn’t hold back, questioning whether Team Penske was making a mistake by sending a NASCAR rookie to Dakar instead of keeping him locked into stock car preparation.

Gibbs Doubles Down:
"You don’t see me running around in the desert or playing co-driver. You know what I’m doing? I’m in the simulator. I’m in the shop. I’m working with my team. That’s how you prepare for Xfinity. Not by getting lost in the dunes."

Tommy Bedlam Fires Back – "This Experience Is Making Me Better"
Bedlam, never one to shy away from a challenge, didn’t hesitate to respond.

Tommy Bedlam on Gibbs’ Comments:
"Ty’s entitled to his opinion, but let’s be real—Dakar so far is the toughest challenge of my life, and after only a few days I know I am walking away from it stronger. If he thinks this is a ‘waste of time,’ he clearly doesn’t understand what it takes to be a well-rounded driver."

Bedlam Explains Why Dakar Is the Best Preparation for Xfinity:

- Mental toughness: "Dakar teaches you how to focus for hours on end, no mistakes, no second chances. Xfinity races are long, but Dakar is two weeks of mental exhaustion. That’s a whole different level."

- Car control & adaptability: "Dakar throws every kind of surface at you—sand, rocks, deep ruts, high-speed straights. You have to adjust instantly, which is exactly what I’ll have to do when I hit different tracks in Xfinity for the first time."

- Learning to handle adversity: "At Dakar, you don’t have pit crews waiting to fix things every ten minutes. You have to problem-solve on the fly. If something goes wrong in an Xfinity race, I’ll be better equipped to handle it, thanks to this experience."

Social Media Reacts – Bedlam vs. Gibbs
- Some fans side with Gibbs, agreeing that Xfinity drivers should focus only on stock cars.
- Others believe Bedlam’s Dakar experience will give him an edge, making him mentally tougher and more adaptable.
- A rivalry might be brewing between Bedlam and Gibbs before the Xfinity season even begins!

Twitter Reactions:
@NASCARFan97: "Gibbs out here talking like he's the authority on driver development. Tommy is running Dakar. That’s legendary. He’s gonna be stronger because of it."

@XfinityInsider: "Bedlam vs. Gibbs is already heating up and they haven’t even run a race yet. Can’t wait to see them go at it on the track."

@JoeGibbsRules: "Ty is right. Xfinity isn’t the place to experiment. Focus on the car, not on off-road games."

What’s Next? Bedlam vs. Gibbs in Xfinity!
- Bedlam makes his full-time Xfinity debut this season with Team Penske, once he and Millar return from Saudi Arabia.
- Gibbs is back in the #54 and isn’t backing down from his views.
- Will this rivalry explode on track, or will Bedlam prove his Dakar experience made him stronger?

Bedlam’s Final Word:
"Let’s settle it on the track. If Ty thinks he’s better prepared, let’s see what happens when the green flag drops. I need to get some food and some sleep though, as I think stage five is going to be another real ball buster."

Dakar isn't even halfway over, but Xfinity is next. Bedlam vs. Gibbs—this season just got even more interesting.

Sebastien Loeb Suggests Juice Millar Should Consider a Rally Career!
After Stage 4 of the 2022 Dakar Rally, nine-time World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb had high praise for Juice Millar, suggesting that the NASCAR Truck Series driver should seriously consider a future in rallying or at least competing in more Dakar-style events.

Sebastien Loeb on Juice Millar’s Dakar Performance:
"For a rookie, he’s been very impressive. You can see the raw talent—his car control, his ability to read the terrain, his decision-making under pressure. He’s clearly learning fast, and for someone who’s coming from NASCAR, that’s not easy. I think he should do more of this. He has the potential to be really competitive in rally-raid or rally in general."

Why Loeb Sees Potential in Millar
Car Control & Adaptability: Despite being a NASCAR oval driver, Millar has shown great skill handling the unpredictable surfaces of Dakar, something that takes years for many drivers to master. Loeb, who transitioned from WRC to Dakar, sees natural ability in Millar’s approach to high-speed desert navigation.

Fast Learning Curve: Millar has already improved stage by stage, avoiding major mistakes that usually catch out rookies in Dakar. His understanding of terrain reading, risk management, and throttle control is beyond what Loeb expected from a first-time competitor.

Aggression & Racecraft: Dakar requires precise aggression, knowing when to push and when to survive—Millar has shown good instincts in balancing speed with preservation. Loeb believes that with more experience, Millar could be competitive in more cross-country rally events.

243397412-419959132825720-5247209240070746840-n-1634187253.jpg

Loeb on Millar’s Future:
"I don’t know what his plans are, but if I were him, I’d think about doing more events like this. Maybe even WRC or Baja. He has the right instincts—you can’t teach that."

What’s Next? Could Millar Expand His Racing Career?
- Sebastien Loeb believes Millar has real potential in rally-raid events.
- Could Penske support Millar in more international off-road racing?

Loeb’s Final Thought on Millar:
"He’s got something special. If he wants to do more of this, I think he could be really, really fast."

Dakar’s just the beginning—what’s next for Juice Millar & Tommy Bedlam?

NASCAR International Series - Preseason Testing Press Conference

Charlotte Motor Speedway, January 6th 2022

The 2022 NASCAR International Series (NIS) Preseason Testing kicks off with a major press conference at Charlotte Motor Speedway, featuring drivers from Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, and Toyota as they prepare for three days of oval testing.

Team representatives and drivers take the stage as various media outlets ask questions about their expectations, challenges, and ambitions heading into the season.

Moderator (NASCAR Media Official):
"Welcome to the official press conference for the 2022 NASCAR International Series Preseason Testing at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Today, we have drivers from all four manufacturers—Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, and Toyota—here to discuss their expectations before hitting the track. Let's begin with questions from the media."

Question #1: "This is the first time many of you are racing stock cars on ovals. What are you expecting from this test?"

images

Paul di Resta (#42, AM Racing - Audi):
"I think it’s fair to say I have no idea what to expect. I’ve spent my life in open-wheel and endurance racing, but this is a completely different beast. I’ll be working closely with Clint [Bowyer] and the AM Racing team to get comfortable with how these cars react in the draft and under race conditions."

Brendon Hartley (#55, Kangaroo Racing - BMW):
"Yeah, I’m with Paul on this one—I’m going into the unknown. I’ve done high-speed racing before, but oval racing is a whole different skill set. I’ll be using this test to understand tire management and what I need to do to stay competitive in traffic."

Question #2: "Which team do you expect to be strongest on ovals?"

images

Josh Berry (#15, Joe Gibbs Racing - Toyota):
"Let’s be honest—Joe Gibbs Racing knows how to win on ovals. That’s what we do. I respect the competition, but we’re not here to ‘learn’—we’re here to dominate. I expect Toyota to be up front all season long."

Jeffrey Earnhardt (#26, Richard Childress Racing - Chevrolet):
"I’d say Chevrolet’s got the best overall lineup for oval racing. RCR, Ganassi, Hendrick—our teams have the experience, the history, and the resources to make this work. Testing here at Charlotte is just the first step in proving that."

Juan Pablo Montoya (#21, Haas Racing - BMW):
"I think everyone expects Toyota and Chevrolet to be strong because they’ve been doing this for decades. But BMW is coming in with something to prove. We may not have the history in oval racing, but we have the talent and resources to catch up fast. Don’t count us out."

Question #3: "For the rookies in oval racing, what is the biggest challenge you expect to face?"

three-time-w-series-champion-jamie-chadwick-at-the-2022-festival-of-speed.-ph.-by-toby-adamson.-1.jpg

Jamie Chadwick (#7, ThorSport Racing - Audi):
"For me, it’s learning how to race in a pack. I’ve raced wheel-to-wheel in single-seaters, but the way stock cars handle in traffic is completely different. This test is all about getting comfortable in those situations."

Scottie Sky (#30, Monster Energy Racing - Toyota):
"Understanding when to be aggressive and when to back off. I know how to go fast, but I need to learn how to position myself in the draft and make moves without burning up my tires."

Jamie Whincup (#66, Kangaroo Racing - BMW):
"For me, it’s the idea that you have to constantly adjust your driving depending on how the pack moves. In Supercars, I control my own race. Here, you’re at the mercy of the draft, the cars around you, and pit strategy. That’s a huge adjustment."

Question #4: "Who do you see as your biggest rivals this season?"

103538919_AP24288739780936_t800.jpg

Hailee Deegan (#29, Monster Energy Racing - Toyota):
"I’d say Jamie Chadwick and I are going to be going at it all year. People are already trying to compare us, and I’m here to prove that I’m the best female driver in this series. No offense to Jamie, but I’m not backing down from that fight."

Brandon Blaze (#1, Chip Ganassi Racing - Chevrolet):
"I see Josh Berry and JGR as the guys to beat. Toyota’s strong, but I know CGR can run up front. I expect us to be in a battle with them for wins all season."

Germain Loochhausen (#84, McLaren - Chevrolet [UK]):
"Honestly? I think McLaren vs. BMW is going to be one of the most interesting battles of the year. We’re both international teams trying to prove we belong in stock car racing. I know people are doubting us on ovals, but we’re coming to win."

Question #5: "What’s the main goal for this test?"

images

Clint Bowyer (#41, AM Racing - Audi):
"Simple—figure out what we’ve got under the hood and what we need to fix before the season starts. Audi’s new to this, so this test is critical for us."

Tanner Gray (#16, Joe Gibbs Racing - Toyota):
"I want to get a feel for how the car reacts over long runs. Anyone can be fast in a short stint, but real success comes from managing tires and fuel across an entire race."

Bobby Rey (#5, Hendrick Motorsports - Chevrolet):
"For me, it’s about confidence. I’m young, and this is my chance to show Hendrick that I can run up front. If I’m fast in testing, that sets the tone for the season."

Final Question: "What’s your biggest takeaway before testing begins?"

636546435796511136-jarrett.png

Dubba Best (#22, Haas Racing - BMW):
"There’s a lot of talent in this field, but talent only gets you so far. Execution wins championships. This test is where we figure out who’s serious and who’s just here for the ride."

Brendon Hartley (#55, Kangaroo Racing - BMW):
"We’re all starting on the same page, but by the end of this test, we’ll see who’s actually got it figured out."

Josh Berry (#15, Joe Gibbs Racing - Toyota):
"Testing’s great, but when we go racing, that’s when we’ll see who’s got the real pace. Toyota’s ready. We’ll prove it soon enough."

Final Takeaways from the Preseason Press Conference
- Toyota and Chevrolet expect to be dominant early on.
- BMW and Audi believe they can catch up fast with data from this test.
- Drivers with oval experience (Berry, Bowyer, Earnhardt) are confident, while international rookies (Di Resta, Chadwick, Hartley) are focused on learning.
- The first rivalries of the season are already forming—especially between Deegan & Chadwick, McLaren & BMW, and JGR vs. CGR.

2022 Dakar Rally – Rest Day Recap (January 8, 2022)
(Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – A Well-Earned Break Before the Second Half Begins!)

After six grueling stages, over 2,500 km of racing, and brutal desert conditions, the Dakar Rally’s official rest day provided a crucial chance for teams to recover, rebuild, and reset before the second half of the competition.

For some, the rest day was a chance to celebrate their progress. For others, it was a desperate fight to repair their vehicles and continue racing.

For Team Penske, Juice Millar and Tommy Bedlam used the time to refocus, reflect on their Dakar debut so far, and prepare for the final six stages.

Rest Day Priorities for Teams
Vehicle Maintenance & Repairs: Teams worked around the clock to service suspension, tires, drivetrain components, and electronics.
Some competitors had severe mechanical issues that needed full rebuilds to continue.

Driver & Co-Driver Recovery: Physio teams treated fatigue, dehydration, back pain, and muscle injuries after six days of brutal driving.
Nutrition plans were adjusted to help competitors stay physically and mentally strong for the next week.

Navigation Review & Strategy: Co-drivers studied the upcoming roadbook, planning how to avoid costly navigation errors in the next stages.
Teams adjusted their strategy based on who they needed to catch or defend against in the standings.

Team Penske Reflects on Their Dakar Debut So Far
- Currently 16th Overall – Solid First Half!
- No major mechanical issues – The Penske Dakar Prototype (Ford Raptor RS) is holding up well!
- Improving every stage – Two top-20 finishes in the last two days!

Juice Millar on the Rest Day:
"I still can’t believe we’re here, halfway through our first-ever Dakar! This race is something else. Every stage pushes you harder than you thought possible. But we’ve been getting better every day, and now we get to rest up and go again."

Tommy Bedlam on Learning Dakar Navigation:
"The first couple of days were a wild ride—I won’t lie. But now? We’re starting to get it. The roadbook makes more sense, we’re trusting our instincts more, and we’re not second-guessing ourselves. Bring on the second half!"

Vehicle Status Update – Penske’s Ford Raptor RS Cross Country:
✅ Engine & Transmission in great shape!
✅ Suspension & tires holding up well!
✅ No major electrical or cooling issues!

Team Focus for the Second Half:
Keep improving – Aiming for more top-15 stage finishes!
Avoid mistakes – Stay out of trouble in the dunes.
Stay consistent – Dakar isn’t won in one stage, but it can be lost in one mistake.

* * * * *

What’s Next? The Rally Resumes with Stage 7!
January 9 – Stage 7: Riyadh → Al Dawadimi (701 km total / 402 km special)
The second half begins with another marathon stage – more dunes, more navigation, and no room for errors!

- Can Penske continue their climb up the standings?
- Will Loeb be able to cut into Al-Attiyah’s lead?
- Which teams will handle the fatigue best in the second week?

The Dakar Rally is only halfway done – the toughest challenges are still ahead!

2022 Dakar Rally – Stage 7 Recap (January 9, 2022)
(Riyadh → Al Dawadimi | Total Distance: 701 km | Timed Section: 402 km)

After a well-earned rest day, Stage 7 kicked off the second half of the Dakar Rally, immediately pushing teams back into survival mode with a long, grueling 402 km special stage. The route from Riyadh to Al Dawadimi featured deep dune crossings, fast desert tracks, and rocky terrain, testing both machine durability and driver endurance as exhaustion from the first week still lingered.

For Team Penske’s debut entry, Juice Millar and Tommy Bedlam, the second half was about building on their strong momentum, aiming to break into the top 15 while staying clean and consistent.

NIS - Preseason Testing Team Principal's Thoughts: Toyota & BMW

Charlotte Motor Speedway, January 9th 2022

With NASCAR International Series (NIS) preseason testing officially set to begin tomorrow at Charlotte Motor Speedway, some of the biggest team principals in the series have shared their thoughts.

Representing Toyota, BMW, and Ford, these key decision-makers discuss expectations, challenges, and rivalries as teams prepare to hit the track for the first time.

_128182836_gettyimages-660470390.jpg

Ken Block (Monster Energy Racing - Toyota) on Toyota’s Aggressive Approach
"Monster Energy Racing is here to put on a show, but make no mistake—we want to win. We’ve got Hailee Deegan and Scottie Sky in the #29 and #30, and they’re both ready to prove themselves. This test is about setting the tone for the season. We know Toyota’s fast, and we plan to remind everyone of that right away."

✅ Monster Energy Racing Will Be Aggressive – Block’s background in extreme motorsports suggests his drivers will push the limits from the start.
✅ Strong Confidence in Toyota Power – Toyota has decades of stock car experience, and Block believes they have an immediate edge over new manufacturers like BMW and Audi.
✅ Backing His Young Drivers – With Deegan and Sky still proving themselves, this test is critical for building confidence and racecraft.

* * * * *

images

Coy Gibbs (Joe Gibbs Racing - Toyota) on JGR’s Championship Aspirations
"This isn’t a development project for Joe Gibbs Racing—we’re coming here to win. Josh Berry and Tanner Gray know what’s expected of them, and this test is about fine-tuning what we already know. I’m not worried about new manufacturers catching up, because frankly, we’re already ahead. This test is about maximizing that advantage."

✅ JGR Sees Itself as the Team to Beat – Unlike BMW and Audi, Toyota doesn’t need to “learn” oval racing—they’re already experts.
✅ High Expectations for Berry & Gray – Gibbs is making it clear that his drivers are expected to win from Day 1.
✅ Confidence Bordering on Arrogance? – JGR is setting a strong tone, which could put them at odds with teams still developing their programs.

* * * * *

images

Esteban Gutiérrez (Haas Racing - BMW) on BMW’s Need to Adapt Quickly
"We’re excited, but we’re not naive. This is BMW’s first real NASCAR-style project, and we have a steep learning curve. Montoya brings experience, and Dubba Best is a solid driver to work with him, but we have to be realistic. This test is about understanding what we’re up against and how fast we can close the gap."

✅ Haas Racing Knows They Have Work to Do – Gutiérrez isn’t pretending BMW is on Toyota’s level yet, but they’re committed to closing the gap fast.
✅ Montoya Will Lead the Team – BMW’s strategy is clear: follow Montoya’s expertise while using Dubba Best as a support driver.
✅ Testing is Crucial for BMW’s Ovals – Unlike road courses, where BMW expects to be strong, this test will define how quickly they can adapt to superspeedway racing.

* * * * *

images

Mark Webber (Kangaroo Racing - BMW) on BMW’s Plan to Work as a Unit
"I’ve been around motorsport long enough to know that a manufacturer like BMW doesn’t come in just to participate—they come in to win. That being said, this test is all about getting our four cars working together. Haas and Kangaroo Racing need to be smart about how we approach this—on ovals, teamwork matters more than anything else."

✅ BMW Will Use Manufacturer Teamwork – Unlike Toyota and Chevrolet, which aren’t prioritizing alliances, BMW is committed to cooperation between Haas and Kangaroo Racing.
✅ Long-Term Success Over Short-Term Speed – Webber acknowledges that BMW might not be the fastest right away, but they will be competitive in time.
✅ Oval Strategy is Key – BMW will likely focus on drafting, fuel strategy, and pit cycles during testing to prepare for the season.

Final Takeaways from the Team Principals
- Toyota (Monster Energy & JGR) is extremely confident and sees itself as the early favorite.
- BMW (Haas & Kangaroo) acknowledges they need to learn but is committed to long-term success.
- Testing will be crucial for BMW’s oval development, while Toyota wants to fine-tune an already dominant package.
- Expect Toyota to push the pace from Day 1, while BMW teams focus on strategy and learning.

NIS - Preseason Testing Team Principal's Thoughts: Audi & Chevrolet
Charlotte Motor Speedway, January 9th 2022

danica-patrick.jpg

Danica Patrick (RCR - Chevrolet) on Chevrolet’s Winning Mentality
"Look, RCR knows how to win races. We’re not worried about Toyota talking big, and we’re not waiting around for BMW or Audi to figure things out. Jeffrey [Earnhardt] knows what’s expected of him, and we’ve got the support of Chevrolet behind us. Testing at Charlotte is about dialing in our setup, so when we show up at Jukasa for the season opener, we’re already ahead of the game."

✅ Chevrolet Teams Will Be Aggressive from the Start – Patrick makes it clear that RCR isn’t here to "learn"—they’re here to win right away.
✅ Jeffrey Earnhardt Has High Expectations – Carrying the Earnhardt name in NASCAR means pressure, and Patrick is making sure he delivers.
✅ Not Worried About Toyota’s Confidence – Unlike BMW and Audi, RCR isn’t concerned about Toyota’s dominance—they believe Chevrolet is already on their level.

* * * * *

oGlJ6IB.png

Brandon Blaze Sr. (Chip Ganassi Racing - Chevrolet) on Toyota’s Arrogance
"I respect Toyota, but saying they’re ‘already ahead’ like Coy Gibbs did? That’s a bold assumption. NASCAR is unpredictable, and this is a new championship. We’ve got the drivers, we’ve got the equipment, and if Toyota thinks they’re walking into this without competition, they’re in for a rude awakening."

✅ Ganassi Sees Toyota as Overconfident – Blaze Sr. warns that Chevrolet teams aren’t going to just roll over for JGR and Monster Energy.
✅ Confidence in Chevrolet’s Power & Strategy – CGR believes they have the perfect combination of raw speed and race strategy to compete.
✅ Brandon Blaze (Jr.) Expected to Be a Front-Runner – Chip Ganassi Racing expects Brandon Blaze to challenge for wins from Day 1.

* * * * *

Craven-main-0418.jpg

Ricky Craven (Hendrick Motorsports - Chevrolet) on Chevrolet’s Legacy
"Hendrick Motorsports didn’t become the greatest team in NASCAR by luck—we win because we work harder than everyone else. Bobby Rey is young, but we’ve built this program to compete at the highest level. Our job during testing is to make sure he’s comfortable, our pit stops are flawless, and our long-run pace is strong. If we do that, we’ll be in contention every weekend."

✅ Hendrick Racing for Long-Term Success – Unlike RCR and CGR, Hendrick isn’t just focused on 2022—they want to dominate for years to come.
✅ Bobby Rey is a Rising Star – HMS is taking a patient approach, making sure Rey develops into a long-term championship threat.
✅ Chevrolet’s Strength Comes from Experience – Toyota may have bragging rights, but HMS has the track record to back up their confidence.

* * * * *
1-martin-whitmarsh-57ed98dd2c1b6-57ed98dd3b773.jpg

Martin Whitmarsh (McLaren - Chevrolet [UK]) on McLaren’s Independence from Chevrolet
"While we share a power unit with Chevrolet, McLaren is operating as a fully independent program. Our focus is on building a championship-caliber team, and I believe Sheldon Creed and Germain Loochhausen are more than capable of delivering results. The goal for this test is simple—prove that McLaren belongs at the front of the grid, on both ovals and road courses."

✅ McLaren is Not Aligned with American Chevrolet Teams – Unlike RCR, CGR, and HMS, McLaren sees itself as a separate entity, more like BMW and Audi.
✅ Proving Themselves on Ovals – While people expect McLaren to be strong on road courses, Whitmarsh wants to show they can win anywhere.
✅ Belief in Their Drivers – Creed and Loochhausen have bold confidence, and McLaren’s leadership fully supports their aggressive mentality.

* * * * *

images

Mike Bugarewicz (AM Racing - Audi) on Audi’s Learning Process
"We know we’re coming into this as the underdogs, but don’t mistake that for weakness. Clint Bowyer is an oval veteran, and Paul di Resta is a world-class driver who will adapt quickly. This test is about figuring out where we stand. If we’re competitive by the time we leave Charlotte, I’ll consider that a success."

✅ Audi Knows They Have a Learning Curve – Unlike Toyota and Chevrolet, Audi is approaching this test realistically.
✅ Bowyer’s Oval Experience Will Be Key – Expect AM Racing to rely heavily on Bowyer to help dial in their car.
✅ Di Resta’s Road Course Strength is an X-Factor – If Audi can be competitive on ovals, they could be a serious contender when the series moves to road courses.

* * * * *

TruQZ2W.jpg

Paul Menard (ThorSport Racing - Audi) on Jamie Chadwick’s Growth
"Jamie Chadwick is an incredible talent, and this test is about getting her comfortable in a stock car. We know she’s going to be fast on road courses, but for her to compete for a championship, she needs to get confident on ovals. This test is all about putting in the laps, running in traffic, and learning racecraft."

✅ ThorSport Focused on Development – Unlike Toyota and Chevrolet, which expect immediate success, ThorSport is taking a long-term approach.
✅ Jamie Chadwick’s Road Course Speed is Undeniable – However, she must prove she can be competitive on ovals.
✅ This Test is About Seat Time – Chadwick isn’t expected to be one of the fastest drivers immediately, but ThorSport is playing the long game.

Key Takeaways from the Chevrolet & Audi Press Conference
- Chevrolet (RCR, CGR, HMS) is confident and ready to take the fight to Toyota.
- McLaren is separating itself from Chevrolet’s American teams, seeing itself as an independent entity.
- Audi (AM Racing, ThorSport) acknowledges they have a lot to learn but are focused on steady progress.
- Hendrick is playing the long game, ensuring Bobby Rey develops into a long-term threat.
- Chip Ganassi Racing and Richard Childress Racing are NOT buying into Toyota’s “we’re already ahead” mentality.

2022 Dakar Rally – Stage 8 Recap (January 10, 2022)
(Al Dawadimi → Wadi Ad Dawasir | Total Distance: 830 km | Timed Section: 395 km)

With just four stages remaining, Stage 8 was another massive endurance test as competitors traveled 830 km in total, with a 395 km special stage full of dunes, high-speed desert tracks, and tricky navigation sections. As the rally pushed deeper into Saudi Arabia’s Empty Quarter, the race was physically and mentally draining, with every mistake becoming more costly.

For Team Penske, Juice Millar and Tommy Bedlam were coming off their best-ever Dakar result (14th in Stage 7), aiming to carry momentum forward and prove they could consistently fight inside the Top 15.

221-bahrain-raid-xtreme-prodri.jpg

Stage 8 – The Marathon Continues!
Route:
Al Dawadimi → Wadi Ad Dawasir
Total Distance: 830 km (Timed Special: 395 km)

Terrain Breakdown:
✔️ 45% dunes & deep sand – Soft terrain requiring skillful throttle control.
✔️ 30% high-speed desert tracks – Demanding precise navigation.
✔️ 25% rocky sections & dried riverbeds – Risk of punctures & mechanical failures.

This was a key stage for the front-runners, while midfield competitors battled exhaustion and mechanical wear as Dakar’s attrition rate continued to rise.

Team Penske Delivers Another Strong Performance!
- Juice Millar and Tommy Bedlam finish in the Top 15 for the second consecutive stage!
- Another clean run—no navigation errors, no major mechanical issues!
- Consistently matching the pace of experienced Dakar competitors.

Juice Millar on Stage 8:
"This was the fastest we’ve gone all rally. Some of those desert tracks were insane—you’re flat out at over 170 km/h, just hoping the roadbook is right. The dunes were tough again, but we’re getting better at handling them."

Tommy Bedlam on the importance of strategy:
"We’ve learned that it’s all about balance—when to push, when to back off, and how to read the terrain. Two weeks ago, we’d have lost a lot more time in a stage like this, but now we’re making smarter calls."

SjHM3sZ.png

Key Takeaways from Stage 8
✅ Al-Attiyah Strengthens His Lead! The Toyota driver responds to Loeb’s attack and re-establishes control.
✅ Loeb Still Fighting. The BRX Hunter closes the gap slightly, but needs more time gains.
✅ Penske’s Best Dakar Performance! 13th place finish proves they are serious contenders in the midfield.
✅ Navigation Errors Everywhere! Many teams lost time searching for hidden waypoints, but Penske avoided costly mistakes.
✅ Only Four Stages Left! Fatigue, attrition, and strategy will now determine the final results.

2022 Dakar Rally – Stage 9 Recap (January 11, 2022)
(Wadi Ad Dawasir → Wadi Ad Dawasir | Total Distance: 490 km | Timed Section: 287 km)

With only four stages remaining, Stage 9 was a high-speed loop stage around Wadi Ad Dawasir, offering a mix of fast-paced desert tracks, technical sand sections, and challenging navigation zones. Though shorter than previous stages (287 km special), it was far from easy—hidden waypoints and high-speed decision-making made for a mentally exhausting day.

For Team Penske, Juice Millar and Tommy Bedlam came into the stage riding momentum from back-to-back Top-15 finishes, aiming to stay consistent, avoid mistakes, and keep pushing forward in their Dakar debut.

images

Stage 9 – A Fast but Tricky Challenge!
Route:
Wadi Ad Dawasir → Wadi Ad Dawasir (Loop Stage)
Total Distance: 490 km (Timed Special: 287 km)

Terrain Breakdown:
✔️ 50% high-speed desert tracks – Flat-out racing at 170+ km/h with unpredictable surface changes.
✔️ 30% sand dunes – Technical sections requiring precise throttle control and navigation.
✔️ 20% rocky terrain & dried riverbeds – Risk of punctures and mechanical issues.

This was a stage that rewarded precision and smart navigation—mistakes in waypoint tracking could cost minutes or even hours, as some drivers found out the hard way.

Team Penske Delivers Another Solid Performance!
- Juice Millar and Tommy Bedlam finish inside the Top 15 for the third consecutive stage!
- Fastest opening sector time of their rally so far.
- One minor navigation hiccup, but recovered quickly without major time loss.

Juice Millar on Stage 9:
"That was like being on a roller coaster, but you’re the one driving it! This stage was fast—insanely fast. We were flat-out in 6th gear so many times, just hoping there were no nasty surprises waiting over the next crest."

Tommy Bedlam on the day’s navigation challenges:
"This was one of those ‘blink and you miss it’ kind of days. The waypoints were super close together in some spots, and if you got one wrong, it was easy to get turned around. We had one small issue but got back on track quickly. Overall, another great run."

- Dashboard systems fully functional—no warning lights or electrical failures.
- Navigation equipment working well—Bedlam has full visibility on waypoints and roadbook integration.

Bodywork – Some Damage, but Nothing Critical!
- Minor panel damage on the rear quarter after hitting a hidden rock in Stage 8.
- Underbody skid plates have taken multiple hits, but holding up well.
- Side mirrors replaced after being broken in deep sand section of Stage 7.

Pit Crew’s Plan Before Stage 10
1️⃣ Full suspension check & potential damper replacement.
2️⃣ Deep clean cooling system & replace air filter.
3️⃣ Inspect underbody & tighten skid plates.
4️⃣ New tires for the next two stages—saving the final set for the last day.

Juice Millar on the Car’s Condition:
"This truck has been an absolute beast. We’ve put it through hell—massive dunes, high-speed hits, deep sand, everything—and it just keeps going. We’re managing wear, but we’ve still got a machine that can fight in the final three stages."

Tommy Bedlam on Mechanical Strategy:
"A lot of teams are pushing hard and breaking stuff—our goal has always been smart racing. The Penske engineers have done an unreal job keeping this thing in top condition, and now it’s about bringing it home strong."

"The Goal is to Finish—The Position is Secondary"
With just three stages remaining in the 2022 Dakar Rally, Team Penske’s co-driver Tommy Bedlam has made it clear that their primary goal is simply to finish the rally—a massive achievement for any Dakar rookie team. Currently sitting 15th overall, Bedlam admitted that while their position is something to be proud of, completing Dakar is the real prize.

Tommy Bedlam on Their Dakar Target:
"From the very start, our goal was to survive and make it to the finish line, and now, with just three days to go, that goal feels real. It’s easy to get caught up in results and times, but let’s be honest—finishing Dakar is an achievement on its own. You don’t get a trophy for 15th place, but you do get to say you conquered the hardest rally in the world, and that’s what really matters."

Penske’s Dakar Journey So Far
✅ Minimal mechanical issues – The Penske Dakar Prototype (Ford Raptor RS) is still running strong!
✅ Consistent improvement – Three consecutive Top-15 finishes in the second half of the rally.
✅ No major navigation disasters – Bedlam has steadily improved his roadbook reading.
✅ Avoiding major accidents – Many competitors have crashed or retired, but Penske is still going!

Juice Millar on Their Mentality for the Final Stages:
"We’ve seen it happen—teams push too hard, trying to fight for one more position, and next thing you know, they’re out. We’re racing smart, keeping the car in one piece, and focusing on the big picture: crossing that finish line in Jeddah."

Why Finishing Dakar is So Important
- 40% of competitors don’t make it to the end.
- Over 8,000 km of brutal terrain must be conquered.
- Extreme fatigue, mechanical wear, and navigation mistakes cause many retirements.
- Completing Dakar puts you in an elite club of finishers, regardless of position.

Bedlam on Dakar’s Unforgiving Nature:
"It doesn’t matter if you’re fighting for a podium or just trying to survive—Dakar will test you like nothing else. We’ve seen teams running in the top 10 one day, then completely out of the rally the next. The finish line is all that matters."
