Stewart Friesen Talks In Depth
Friesen acknowledges that this year has been a turning point in his career. After a few inconsistent seasons, he feels that the decision to focus entirely on his #52 truck, without the distractions of additional entries in the team, has allowed him to be more competitive. “It’s been a night-and-day difference from where we were last year. The team has been able to dedicate more resources to making this truck better, and it’s showing in our results.”
Unlike in previous seasons where Halmar Friesen Racing sometimes struggled with spreading resources across multiple efforts, the singular focus has allowed them to fine-tune their setups week in and week out. Friesen credits his crew for putting in the extra hours and making adjustments that have kept him in the fight for the playoffs.
His Goal: Repeat 2019 and Reach the Championship Four
Friesen has made it clear that his primary objective is making it to the Championship Four—something he last achieved in 2019, when he had a career-best season and nearly won the title. He believes that experience from that playoff run, combined with the improvements this year, gives him a real shot at another deep run.
“Back in 2019, we proved we could go toe-to-toe with the best, and I don’t see why we can’t do it again. The competition is tough, but I know what it takes to perform when the pressure’s on. If we can execute, there’s no reason we can’t be in the mix at Phoenix.”
While Friesen hasn’t been the outright favorite this season, he has quietly built consistency and has been in the top 10 regularly. He also noted that tracks in the playoffs, like Bristol and Martinsville, play to his strengths and could give him an edge over his competitors.
Belief That He Can Win the Championship
While some may consider him an underdog, Friesen doesn’t see it that way. He believes that his experience, combined with the team’s improvements, makes him a real threat for the championship.
“People might not be talking about us as much as Slayer or Juice (Millar), but that’s fine. I like being overlooked—let them focus on the other guys. I know what we’ve got under us, and I know what we’re capable of.”
Friesen is also confident in his ability to outsmart his competitors in high-pressure situations. He’s been in the sport long enough to know how to manage the playoffs, and he believes he can capitalize on the mistakes of younger, less experienced drivers.
New Molson Canadian Livery for the Playoffs
Friesen officially unveiled his Molson Canadian playoff truck, featuring a bold red and white color scheme with the iconic maple leaf front and center. The truck pays tribute to his Canadian roots, something that he has always been proud of representing.
“Molson has been a great partner, and it just makes sense to have them with us in the playoffs. The design is clean, classic, and just fits with what we’re about.”

The livery isn’t just for looks; it also signifies a continued partnership with Molson Canadian into the future. Friesen hinted that there are plans to expand their involvement with Halmar Friesen Racing beyond just this season, possibly even helping with further development of the team’s trucks for 2023.
Looking Toward the Future
While Stewart Friesen remains laser-focused on this year’s championship run, speculation has been swirling about his long-term plans. With his strong playoff performance and the increasing attention on veteran drivers moving up the NASCAR ladder, there have been whispers that he might entertain offers from Xfinity or even Cup teams for 2023. However, Friesen made one thing abundantly clear: no matter what happens, the #52 truck will remain in the family.
“I don’t know what next season holds. Maybe I’m back here fighting for another championship, maybe I take on a new challenge—but what I do know is that a Friesen will be behind the wheel of the #52.”
This statement immediately raised speculation about whether Friesen himself intends to stay or if his wife, Jessica Friesen—who has made select Truck Series starts in the past—could take over the ride in some capacity. Jessica, a well-known dirt racer, has been open about her interest in competing in NASCAR more frequently.
Friesen’s declaration also signals his commitment to Halmar Friesen Racing, ensuring that even if he does explore other opportunities, the team will remain intact and continue to be a competitive presence in the Truck Series. Whether that means Stewart running part-time with Jessica filling in, or a full-time driver switch, the Friesen name isn’t going anywhere.
As for his own future, Friesen remains noncommittal but acknowledged that he has received interest from teams in both Xfinity and Cup. While he hasn’t ruled anything out, he reiterated that his priority is the playoffs and trying to win the 2022 Truck Series championship before making any major decisions.
