2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series: Auto Club Speedway Part One

26th February

With Daytona in the rear-view mirror, the field heads west to Auto Club — a driver’s track known for rewarding throttle control, tire management, and bravery up against the wall. Round 2 of the Xfinity Series is shaping up to test who’s got long-run speed and who just caught lightning at the superspeedway.

Key Storylines Heading into Fontana

Can Tommy Bedlam Go 2-for-2?
The Daytona winner and rookie phenom starts the weekend as the man to beat. His #22 Team Penske Ford was flawless in execution last week — but now it’s time to see if that pace holds up at a real handling track. If Bedlam wins again, we’re talking about a potential early title favorite.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s 3-Headed Attack
Ty Gibbs came this close to winning Daytona. Sammy Smith and Brandon Jones weren’t far behind. At Auto Club, all three JGR cars will be looking to punch back. Expect them to qualify strong and run up front, especially Gibbs, who thrives at fast intermediates.

JR Motorsports = Serious Depth
Noah Gragson, Sam Mayer, Christian Eckes (R), and Justin Allgaier all showed pace at Daytona. Expect Gragson to be aggressive and Allgaier to be a silent assassin. Eckes, coming off a P6 debut, is rapidly building confidence.

Kaulig’s High-Line Heroes
Kevin Magnussen surprised everyone with a Top 5 at Daytona. Now we get to see what the F1-turned-NASCAR driver can do when handling matters more than drafting. A.J. Allmendinger and Landon Cassill will back him up with veteran presence.

Dark Horses to Watch:
- Austin Hill (R) – Has elite car control. Auto Club suits his style.

- Daniel Hemric – Quiet at Daytona but this is his playground.

- Kaz Grala – Always a threat at multi-lane ovals.

- Christian Eckes (R) – That JR car has speed; he could surprise again.

Field Expands: Truck Series Stars Join the Fray
The race at Auto Club just got even more stacked. Ford Performance is sending five Truck Series drivers into the Xfinity field this weekend — giving them high-speed seat time and giving the fans a must-watch mix of full-timers and crossover talent.

Part-Time Truck Series Additions (Xfinity at Auto Club):

Juice Millar #38 Team Penske
Matt DiBenedetto #28 Team Penske
Carson Hocevar #40 RSS Racing
Arthur D'Tea #97 Stewart-Haas Racing
Barry Clock-Tower #84 Venturini Motorsports

+ + + + +

Qualifying Recap – Auto Club Speedway

Track: 2.0-mile oval – worn surface, wide lanes, major tire falloff
Format: Single-car runs – two rounds

Pole Position – Ty Gibbs (#54, Joe Gibbs Racing)
Ty Gibbs set the pace early and never looked back. On a slick, tire-eating surface, the #54 Toyota stuck to the low line and powered to pole with a lap nearly two-tenths clear of the field. Gibbs, runner-up at Daytona, is clearly locked in.

Ty Gibbs: “We came here with a purpose. Daytona was close, but this track suits me better. We’re here to win it.”

LHQwFcj.png

Notable Qualifiers:
- Juice Millar qualified 13th in the #38 Penske Ford, strong through the middle sector but reported the car was “too tight off Turn 4.”

- Arthur D’Tea surprised many with a 15th-place run in the #97 Stewart-Haas entry — smooth, composed, and precise.

- Barry Clock-Tower? Let’s just say it was wild. He qualified 24th but hit the wall on his cool-down lap. Car is repairable.

Struggles:
- Riley Herbst qualified a disappointing 27th, citing balance issues all session.

- Natalie Decker, Jesse Iwuji, and J.J. Yeley will start from the rear after inspection failures or DNQ-level pace.

Key Takeaways
- Gibbs and Bedlam are establishing themselves as early title favorites.

- JR Motorsports continues to qualify strong as a group.

- Truck Series crossovers like Hocevar and DiBenedetto look like real top-10 threats.

- Magnussen and Eckes — the rookie duo — are looking more dangerous every week.

2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series: Auto Club Speedway Part Two

26th February | 150 laps (Stage 1–2: 35 laps; Stage 3: 80 laps)

[Stage One Recap 1-35]

Lap 1 – The Duel Begins
- Ty Gibbs got the holeshot from pole, but Tommy Bedlam launched perfectly from the outside. The two ran side-by-side for the entire opening lap — neither lifting through Turns 3 and 4.

- Behind them, Cole Custer and Justin Allgaier formed a second-row battle pack, with Gragson watching from 5th.

Lap 3–10 – Sorting Out, but Not Slowing Down
- Bedlam took the lead officially on Lap 3, using the high groove to carry momentum past Gibbs.

- Kevin Magnussen, starting 6th, made quick work of Gragson and then dove under Custer into Turn 1 to grab 4th — showing serious confidence and control for a rookie.

- Juice Millar, starting 13th, ran the bottom line beautifully and climbed to P9 by Lap 10, drafting with teammate Matt DiBenedetto in the #28.

Lap 11 – Near Miss: Hocevar Gets Wild
- Carson Hocevar, trying to crack the top 10, made an overzealous dive into Turn 2 and nearly spun the car. He slid sideways, somehow saving it without touching the wall or anyone else.

- Arthur D’Tea wisely checked up behind him, keeping the incident from becoming a pile-up.

Lap 12–25 – Tire Wear Hits
- Lap times dropped off dramatically as tires began to fade. That’s when veterans like Allgaier and Hemric started climbing.

- Christian Eckes impressed everyone — staying calm in dirty air, managing his tires, and slicing past Gragson and Millar into P6.

- Tommy Bedlam maintained a half-second lead over Gibbs, his car stable through the bumps in Turn 3 where others began sliding.

Lap 27 – First Caution: Poole Spins
- Brennan Poole (#6) lost it off Turn 4 after light contact with Bayley Currey. The car snapped sideways but stayed off the wall. He got it refired, but the caution flew.

- Mid-pack cars like Ryan Sieg and Barry Clock-Tower rolled the dice with two-tire stops, while the leaders stayed out.

Lap 30 Restart – Bedlam Controls It
- Bedlam got a monster launch, clearing Gibbs by Turn 1.

- Magnussen used the second lane to leap past Allgaier into P3, again showing off his comfort with high-speed, tire-sensitive ovals.

- DiBenedetto made the boldest move of the restart — three-wide through the middle, gaining two spots and moving into 7th.

Stage One Finish – Lap 35
- Tommy Bedlam cruised to the green-and-white checkered flag, clean air and tire discipline giving him a controlled, authoritative Stage One win. Behind him, battles for points raged.

[Stage Two Recap 36-70]

Lap 36 – Pit Road Chaos Under Stage Break
Pit stops under caution shook up the field significantly:

- Kevin Magnussen leapfrogged Bedlam and Gibbs with a blistering fast stop from Kaulig Racing.

- Ty Gibbs maintained position, exiting second.

- Tommy Bedlam, despite quick service, lost two positions on pit road, coming out in third.

- Big mover: Matt DiBenedetto improved from 7th to 4th on pit road.

- Minor issue: Juice Millar lost spots, dropping from 8th to 12th due to slight trouble with rear tires.

Lap 40 Restart – Magnussen Leads the Field
- Kevin Magnussen expertly timed the restart, pulling clear entering Turn 1.

- Tommy Bedlam immediately attacked on fresh tires, overtaking Gibbs back into second by Lap 42.

- Justin Allgaier and Christian Eckes resumed their fierce battle for fifth place, swapping positions several times.

Lap 48 – Three-Wide Battles and Close Calls
- A wild pack mid-field involved Juice Millar, Carson Hocevar, and Daniel Hemric, battling fiercely three-wide. Millar ultimately emerged ahead, clawing his way back into the top 10.

- Arthur D'Tea impressed again, holding strong in the top 15, despite pressure from more experienced Xfinity drivers.

Lap 53 – Caution for Spin: Riley Herbst
- Riley Herbst (#98) spun exiting Turn 2, narrowly avoiding the inside wall. He rejoined without damage, but it triggered a caution.

Front runners chose varying strategies:

- Magnussen, Bedlam, Gibbs, and top contenders pitted for fresh tires.

- Barry Clock-Tower, Bayley Currey, and Rajah Caruth gambled on track position by staying out.

Lap 58 Restart – Clock-Tower Rolls Dice
- Barry Clock-Tower led the restart but faded quickly due to worn tires, with Magnussen, Bedlam, and Gibbs storming past him within one lap.

- Further back, Austin Hill and Anthony Alfredo used the restart chaos to crack the top 10 for the first time.

Lap 60–68 – Battle of the Stage: Bedlam vs. Magnussen
- Fans were treated to a breathtaking duel as Tommy Bedlam stalked leader Kevin Magnussen.

- Bedlam, methodical and patient, used multiple lines—high, low, middle—searching for grip.

- On Lap 67, Bedlam dove to the bottom in Turn 3, getting side-by-side with Magnussen, but Magnussen’s momentum off the high line kept him ahead.

Stage Two Finish – Lap 70
- In an intense sprint to the green-and-white checkered, Magnussen held firm, edging out Bedlam in a thrilling finish.

[Stage Three Recap 71-150]

Lap 71 Restart – The Duel Resumes
- Kevin Magnussen (R) led the field back to green with Tommy Bedlam on his outside. The two picked up right where they left off in Stage Two.

- Behind them, Ty Gibbs, DiBenedetto, and Allgaier locked into a fierce three-car battle for third — with Christian Eckes hanging just behind.

Laps 75–90 – The Long Green Run
The field spread out for the longest green-flag run of the race:

- Magnussen led early but began fading by Lap 83 as tire wear caught up with the Kaulig car.

- Bedlam patiently reeled him in and took the lead on Lap 88 with a slick crossover move exiting Turn 4.

- Juice Millar, rebounding from Stage 2, surged into the top 5 by Lap 90, passing Custer and Eckes on the outside.

Lap 97–104 – Green Flag Pit Stops Begin
The first green-flag pit cycle of the day begins:

- Bedlam, Gibbs, and Allgaier pit early (Lap 97–99) for fresh tires and a full tank to set up for the final 50 laps.

- Magnussen stayed out until Lap 104, attempting an overcut — it gained him a few spots temporarily, but he lost grip late in the cycle.

Lap 110 – Caution: Debris on Backstretch
- A piece of rear fender from Barry Clock-Tower’s #84 brought out a caution, erasing gaps and putting drivers on split strategies.

- Leaders who pitted early (Bedlam, Gibbs, Juice) stay out.

- Several others like Hocevar, Decker, and Hemric come back in to top off.

Lap 114 Restart – All-Out Intensity
- Bedlam leads, but Ty Gibbs dives underneath into Turn 1 and briefly takes the lead — only to slide up and allow Juice Millar to go three-wide off Turn 2.

- Juice leads Lap 116 — his first lap led since Stage One.

- Behind them, Matt DiBenedetto and Allgaier shuffle past a fading Magnussen, who reports the car is “tight center, loose off.”

Laps 120–130 – Setting Up the Finale
- The top 6 break away in a league of their own: Bedlam, Gibbs, Millar, Allgaier, DiBenedetto, Eckes

- Christian Eckes finds new life on the high line and starts reeling in the leaders — gaining steadily on Gibbs and DiBenedetto.

- Austin Hill climbs to 8th, showing late-race strength and saving his best for the final stage.

Lap 131–135 – Penske Power Up Front
- Tommy Bedlam held the lead on the restart, but his teammate Juice Millar was glued to his bumper, creating a Team Penske 1-2.

- Ty Gibbs and Justin Allgaier briefly tried to form a lower lane, but it lacked the speed to keep up.

- Christian Eckes, running 5th, found pace again on the high line and closed in — now in range of his first potential Xfinity podium.

Lap 136–140 – Juice Makes His Move
- On Lap 137, Juice Millar took a bold dive into Turn 1 and pulled alongside Bedlam, leading for a moment on the backstretch.

- The crowd came alive — teammates battling, no orders, just raw racing.

- Bedlam used side-draft down the front straight and cleared Juice again at the stripe on Lap 138.

- Behind them, Gibbs closed the gap, now just 0.3 seconds off the lead.

Lap 141–145 – Caution! Wild Card Incoming
- Caution on Lap 141 as J.J. Yeley spun into the grass off Turn 4. No damage, but it bunched the field for a 5-lap shootout to decide the race.

- Teams faced a tough call: stay out on old tires or pit?

- Leaders stayed out, choosing track position over fresh rubber.

- Kaz Grala, Austin Hill, and Daniel Hemric pitted for fresh Goodyears from outside the top 10 — hoping for a late charge.

Lap 146 Restart – The Gloves Come Off
- Bedlam leads with Millar to his outside.

- Ty Gibbs dives low into Turn 1, but slides up and loses momentum.

- Eckes takes advantage, passing Gibbs for 3rd.

- Millar and Bedlam go side-by-side again — crowd on their feet — teammates refusing to yield.

Lap 150 – Checkered Flag: BEDLAM WINS
- On the final lap, Millar sends it high in Turn 1, carrying massive momentum down the backstretch.

- Bedlam throws the block into Turn 3, pinching him off just enough.

- Coming off Turn 4, it's a drag race to the line — Tommy Bedlam wins by 0.089 seconds over Juice Millar in a Penske 1-2 sweep.

Jamie Little Interviews Tommy Bedlam – Victory Lane, Auto Club Speedway

The #22 Team Penske Ford is parked on the frontstretch. Smoke still wafts from the rear tires after a victory burnout. Tommy Bedlam climbs out of the car, throws his fists in the air, and slaps the roof of the car. The crowd roars. Jamie Little approaches with a big smile.]

Jamie Little: "Tommy Bedlam — two-for-two to start your Xfinity Series career! You battled your teammate, you held off a hard charge from Ty Gibbs, and you had to survive a late restart. How’d you get it done today?"

Tommy Bedlam: (still catching his breath)
"Man… that was a dogfight. I mean, Juice was all over me, and I knew if I gave him one inch, he’d take the whole thing. That last restart? I just dug deep, trusted the car, and we executed. This Penske team — these guys are unreal. Every time we’ve unloaded, we’ve had a rocket."

Jamie: "We saw you and Juice Millar racing each other hard but clean. What’s it like going toe-to-toe with a guy like that — especially your own teammate?"

Bedlam: (smiles, nods)
"It’s the best kind of pressure. He knows how I race. I know how he races. No games, no drama — just clean, aggressive racing. I wanted to beat him fair and square, and I think we did that today. We both drove the wheels off these Fords. That was fun."

Jamie: "Back-to-back wins. Rookie of the Year leader. Championship contender. Did you expect this kind of start to your full-time season?"

Bedlam: (laughs, looks at the camera)
"I knew we could compete, but… yeah, this? This is a dream. I’ve got the best people behind me — Penske, Ford, our sponsors, my crew chief — and we’re just getting started. There’s a long way to go, but we’re going to keep swinging."

Jamie: "Tommy Bedlam, your winner at Auto Club!"

Camera pans out to the crowd as Bedlam throws a fist in the air, crew members pouring in around him, Juice Millar walking over to fist bump him. Penske 1-2 sweep complete.

2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series: Auto Club Speedway Part Two

26th February

2560px-Team_Penske_logo.svg.png

Juice Millar – Post-Race Reaction (P2, Auto Club 300)
“Man, that was a blast. First off, massive congrats to Tommy — he earned that one. We raced hard, clean, and I gave him everything I had in that Jaffa Cake #22. I thought maybe I could get him on the top in Turn 3, but he threw the perfect block. That’s what winners do.”

“This was a huge weekend for me — second in Xfinity and a top 10 in Trucks. We wanted the win, but I’m proud of the way we ran. This Jaffa Cake car was quick from the moment we rolled it off the hauler.”

“That’s it for me in Xfinity for a bit. I won’t be back in the series until Talladega, April 23rd for the Ag-Pro 300. Gonna focus on the Truck championship until then — but trust me, we’ll be bringing some chaos when we hit that superspeedway. This ain’t over.”

+ + + +

JRM-1.png

Christian Eckes – Post-Race Reaction (P3, Auto Club 300)
“That was a blast, honestly. This is only my second Xfinity race and I’m already on the podium — I’ll take that any day.”

“This JR Motorsports team gave me a really balanced car today. It wasn’t the fastest on the short run, but we had real speed over the long haul, and that let me pick people off when they started to fall off. Being able to run that top groove, manage the tires, and just settle in — it suits me.”

“I learned a ton today. Racing around guys like Allgaier, Gibbs, Bedlam, Juice — it’s high-level stuff. You can’t make mistakes, and when you don’t, you get results like this.”

“We’re building something here. Two races, two top-6 finishes, and now a podium. Can’t wait for what’s next.”

Driver Reactions – First Xfinity Starts of 2022

Carson Hocevar – P12, RSS Racing #40 Ford
“That was wild — and I loved every second of it. This car drives totally different than the truck, especially at a place like Auto Club. It’s fast, it’s edgy, and you’ve gotta be super disciplined with your tires."

“We had a couple sketchy moments early on — had to save it off Turn 2 more than once — but we brought it home clean and got a solid finish. I think there’s more in it next time we show up.”

Matt DiBenedetto – P7, Team Penske #28 Ford
“Man, it felt good to be back in one of these cars. The #28 was strong all day. We had great pit stops, stayed out of trouble, and ran clean laps when it mattered.”

“This Penske lineup is loaded. Watching Juice and Tommy fight up front from inside the top 10 was fun — and motivating. We’ve got a strong Ford camp right now, and this was a great way to kick off my Xfinity side of the season.”

Arthur D’Tea – P14, Stewart-Haas Racing #97 Ford
“Honestly, I’m proud of this run. It was my first Xfinity race ever, and only my second race in the U.S. this year after jumping between F3 and sports cars. The car felt good — a bit unpredictable in dirty air, but I adjusted."

“I kept it clean, didn’t step over the line, and learned a lot. That middle stint where I ran around Allgaier and Hill — that was big. Those are guys I respect, and they pushed me hard.”

+ + + +

VenturiniMotorsports-Outlined-1.png

Barry Clock-Tower – Post-Race Reflection (P19, Xfinity Debut)
“Man, I had a blast out there today. That was intense — way faster than I expected in traffic, but I think we held our own. This was a one-shot deal for us with Venturini Motorsports, and I just wanted to make it count.”

“We knew going in this would be our only Xfinity start of the year. Venturini's focused on Trucks, and so am I. That’s the big picture — my rookie season in the Truck Series is what I’m locked in on. But today was about learning, showing I can hang, and maybe opening a door for something later.”

“Hopefully someone else was watching. I’d love another crack at this — maybe a short track or a road course, just give me a chance. But for now, it’s full steam ahead on the #34 in Trucks. We’ve got big plans there.”

The final four stages of Rally Sweden 2022 brought a dramatic close to a thrilling WRC3 showdown. Jon Armstrong and Sami Pajari entered the day separated by just over 10 seconds—and with bonus points on the line in the Power Stage, every split time counted. Elsewhere, Robert Virves and Lauri Joona went wheel-to-wheel for the final podium spot, while Butt Hertz mounted a serious final-day charge to break into the top five.

Stage-by-Stage Breakdown

✅ SS9 – Västervik (17.1 km)

Joona and Virves tied for 3rd-fastest, while Butt Hertz closed to within 4 seconds of Creighton.

✅ SS10 – Bredbyn (11.8 km)
Armstrong fought back, setting the fastest time by 1.2s and holding Pajari at bay.
Hertz outpaced Creighton for the first time and officially moved into 5th overall.

✅ SS12 – Umeå Power Stage (10.6 km)
Armstrong put everything on the line and delivered the drive of the rally.
He claimed the Power Stage win and sealed his overall victory by just 5.6 seconds.

Jon Armstrong (1st Overall):
"I had to dig deep today. Sami was relentless, but we kept it clean and committed. Massive thanks to the team. Sweden’s one of my favorite events, and this win feels incredible."

Sami Pajari (2nd Overall):
"That was a fight. I gave it everything—just a few seconds short. Still happy with the drive and the points. Jon deserved the win today."

Lauri Joona (3rd Overall):

Butt Hertz Reflects on P5 in WRC3 Debut: “Proud of This One”
After finishing 5th overall in his WRC3 debut at Rally Sweden, American driver Butt Hertz was all smiles at the service park in Umeå. While most drivers arrive in Sweden with years of snow experience, this was Hertz’s first competitive rally on full-snow stages—and he delivered a clean, measured, and rapidly improving performance over the weekend.

On finishing 5th in his first WRC3 event:
"I’m proud of this one. Rally Sweden is no joke. It’s fast, slick, and punishes every mistake—but we stayed on the road, kept learning, and came away with a top five. That’s a win in my book."

On the learning curve:
"The first couple of stages, I was just trying to keep the car pointed in the right direction. But once I started trusting the grip and leaning on the snowbanks a bit—things clicked. By Saturday afternoon, I felt like I was really rallying."

On his support from Castrol:
"I wouldn’t even be here without Castrol Racing. They believed in me when this was just a crazy idea, and they stuck with me through the grind. Getting to represent them on a world stage like this means everything. Hopefully we gave them something to cheer for."

Sweden Performance Snapshot – Butt Hertz (#WRC3)
Final Position: 5th
Clean rally: No major offs or mechanical issues
Progresion: Improved stage times throughout the rally
Gained over 10 seconds on Creighton during final day to secure P5

What’s Next?
While Hertz hasn’t officially confirmed his full WRC3 schedule his second race of the season is confirmed as Round 5: Rally Italia Sardegna and will be competing full-time in the 2022 European Rally Championship (ERC3) with the first two round taking place in Portugal. This means that Hertz will compete in two ERC rallies next month.

“This gave me the confidence I needed heading into ERC. And by the time it comes to returning to Italy... I’ll be ready.”

Final Words from Hertz:
"To finish your debut rally in one piece—on snow no less—and crack the top five? That’s the kind of result that makes you hungry for more. We’re just getting started."

Bob Pockrass: Tommy, you're two-for-two as an Xfinity rookie. What does that feel like?

Tommy Bedlam: Honestly, it's pretty surreal. This is the stuff that you dream about as a kid racing on dirt tracks back in Kentucky. To win at Daytona is a dream come true, but I know that there were some rumblings about being lucky on a super speedway. To get back out there and repeat at Fontana is just amazing. I had the time of my life out there racing with Juice; me and him raced each other hard but kept it clean, which is really all you could ask for. To know that we're locked into the playoffs after two races is such a huge relef, too. We can try to rack up some points through the rest of the season, but we can also be a little more aggressive with strategy when it comes to going for wins. Dream scenario, Bob.

Indy Lights Round One | Grand Prix of St. Petersburg: Part One
27th February

Season Opener Energy
The Florida sun is shining, anticipation is building, and the engines are roaring to life. After an intense off-season filled with testing, team changes, and young guns making big statements, the streets of St. Petersburg once again play host to the season opener of the 2022 Indy Lights campaign.

This year's grid is deeper, more international, and teeming with hungry talent ready to make their mark. Some drivers return with redemption on their minds, others are fresh faces looking to establish dominance from Day One.

Storylines to Watch

Andretti’s Four-Headed Attack
Andretti Autosport returns with a stacked lineup:

Sting Ray Robb is now the senior figure, aiming to deliver consistency and wins.

Hunter McElrea and Christian Rasmussen bring youthful fire and raw speed.

Matthew Brabham, back full-time, has unfinished business with this series.

Can all four make it past Turn 1 cleanly? That’s always the Andretti challenge.

Linus Lundqvist – The Title Favorite?
Repping HMD Motorsports with Dale Coyne Racing, Linus Lundqvist enters as the presumptive championship favorite. His combination of smooth racecraft and qualifying aggression will be lethal. He dominated testing – now it’s time to show it counts.

Enter Logan Slayer – Toyota Joins the Fray
The wildcard of the season, Logan Slayer debuts for the brand-new Toyota Gazoo Racing outfit. The #19 is shrouded in hype, with Felipe Massa calling Logan "a generational talent." Questions remain about how quickly the new team will adapt to open-wheel street racing at this level.

Will Logan shake up the status quo from the start?

Force Indy’s Mission with Ernie Francis Jr.
Ernie brings swagger, experience, and momentum to Force Indy. The team has high expectations to not just compete, but inspire. Watch for them in the Top 10 with eyes on podiums soon.

Quotes from the Paddock
“It’s time to go racing. All the talk is done. Let’s see who’s really built for this.” – Logan Slayer

Logan Slayer Stuns with Pole on Indy Lights Debut! “From Stock to Street — Slayer Conquers St. Pete”
Logan Slayer celebrating with crew in Victory Lane-style pose, Lucozade bottle in hand, street course banners behind him.

The Florida crowd erupted as the #19 Toyota Gazoo Racing car crossed the line — and with it, Logan Slayer firmly planted the Toyota flag at the top of the Indy Lights timing sheets. A jaw-dropping 1:04.512 lap time earned him pole position in his first-ever open-wheel qualifying session, silencing doubters and electrifying fans.

"They said a NASCAR kid couldn’t hang here. I say — give me street circuits, rain, dirt, ovals, it doesn’t matter. This is racing, and I’m here to win." — Logan Slayer, soaking in the moment with his crew

With Lucozade in one hand and a Toyota flag draped over his shoulders, Slayer leapt onto the pit wall to salute the fans — many of them still sporting old Slayer NASCAR merch, now proudly patched with #19club and “Gazoo’d” decals.

His manager, Felipe Massa, looked on with a knowing smirk:

“We knew this moment would come. Logan is born for big moments. Pole is just the beginning.”

Paddock Reaction
Linus Lundqvist (P2): “He’s quick, no question. But Sunday is where it counts.”

Hunter McElrea (P3): “He’s got raw speed — now let’s see how he handles 45 laps of St. Pete chaos.”

Christian Rasmussen (P5): “It’s great for the series, honestly. He’s brought real attention and that lap? Legit.”

Social Media Explodes
@IndyLightsOfficial:
“ ROOKIE. POLE. DEBUT. Logan Slayer shocks the field at St. Pete!”
@ToyotaGazooRacing: “First-ever Lights pole. Welcome to the party, @LoganSlayer19. #GazooFast”
@SwiftiesForSlayer: “From Trucks to wings – we ride. #19club #SwiftSlayer #LoganOnPole”

Indy Lights Round One | Grand Prix of St. Petersburg: Part Two

27th February

Grand Prix of St. Petersburg (45 Laps)

Green Flag Drama (Laps 1–10)

- Pole-sitter Logan Slayer made a clean start, keeping Lundqvist behind as the field funneled through Turn 1. Behind them, a three-wide battle saw Sting Ray Robb and Jacob Abel brush wheels — Abel dropped to 12th with slight front wing damage.

- By Lap 7, Matthew Brabham had surged past teammate Rasmussen and began reeling in the leaders. Logan’s Lucozade-fueled pace looked strong early… but it wouldn’t last.

Middle Stints (Laps 11–30)
- Lap 14: Slayer makes an error under braking into Turn 4, locking up and running wide. Lundqvist pounces and takes the lead.

- Lap 18: A full-course yellow bunches the field up after Christian Bogle stalls at pit exit. Slayer drops another spot to Brabham on the restart.

- Lap 24: Fastest lap of the race to Linus Lundqvist — 1:04.777 — as he begins pulling a gap. Slayer continues to struggle with tire management in his first open-wheel race.

Final 15 Laps (Lap 31–45)
- Hunter McElrea spins at Turn 10 on Lap 34 while chasing a podium — heartbreak for the Kiwi.

- Ernie Francis Jr. delivers a solid Top 10 run for Force Indy, keeping pressure on Abel.

- Christian Rasmussen passes Slayer on Lap 41 for P3, salvaging a podium for Andretti.

- Meanwhile, Lundqvist controls the race with poise, navigating traffic masterfully. His pace never fades. By Lap 45, he crosses the line with a commanding lead — sending a clear message to the field: he’s the man to beat in 2022.

Post-Race Interview – Logan Slayer (P4 Finish, Pole Winner)

Q: Logan, pole position in your debut and a strong P4 finish — how are you feeling?

“Honestly? I’m proud. Leading those early laps felt amazing. We didn’t quite have the tires figured out late in the race, but to bring it home in the top five against guys like Linus and Brabham — I’ll take that.”

Q: How was the transition from NASCAR Trucks to open-wheel racing?

“Night and day. In Trucks, you're wrestling that thing through the corners, leaning on guys, managing weight transfer like a dance. Here? It’s razor-sharp. You don’t muscle these cars — you finesse them. I had to unlearn some habits real quick.”

“The biggest adjustment? Vision and braking. Everything’s just… tighter. Faster. The car responds instantly. The margin for error is smaller, but it’s thrilling once it clicks.”

Q: You’re with a new team, Toyota Gazoo Racing, and this is their first year in Indy Lights. How’s the vibe?

“We’re building something. I love that. The team’s hungry, I’m hungry. Felipe [Massa] and the engineers are helping me grow every lap. That’s what this year is about — learning fast, making progress, and surprising a few people along the way.”

Q: What are your goals for the 2022 season?

“To learn. As much as possible. About the car, about the tracks, about myself. I know I can race — but now it’s about sharpening my craft in open-wheel. Podiums? Yeah, I think we’ll be in the mix. Wins? Maybe. But growth — that’s the real target.”

“I didn’t come here to play it safe. I came here to evolve.”

2022 NASCAR Truck Series: Las Vegas Speedway Part One

4th March

Last Time Out – Daytona Recap
- James King (R) shocked the field with a rookie win on debut, surviving a wild, wreck-filled Daytona.
- Brett Moffitt brought Bedlam Reynold Racing within inches of a debut win.
- Toyota Gazoo Racing locked out the front row… and left with a double DNF.
- Juice Millar dominated early but limped home 10th, voicing frustration.
0 A number of top contenders — including Stellar, Friesen, Heim, Bordeaux, and Sullivan — are hunting redemption.

What to Expect in Vegas
- Las Vegas is fast and furious — but more forgiving than Daytona. With draft packs gone and clean air king, the true contenders begin to separate from the chaos.

Key themes:
- Tire management and lane choice will make or break long runs.
- Pit crew execution is critical — this track often flips the field on green-flag stops.
- Clean racing = consistent points. Those who got caught in Daytona wrecks need a bounce-back to avoid falling behind in the standings.

Drivers to Watch
James King (R) – #8, KBM
Can he go back-to-back? Vegas will test his ability to race clean and fast on intermediates.

Brett Moffitt – #52, BRR
Veteran. Hungry. Fast. With clean air, Moffitt’s a threat to steal Vegas.

Barbie Stellar – #27, Toyota Gazoo
Crashed out at Daytona. She dominated early, but now needs to convert speed into results.

Juice Millar – #53, Penske
Has something to prove after Daytona frustrations. Vegas suits his aggressive-yet-calculated style.

Arthur D’Tea – #51, ThorSport
Called out his own underperformance at Daytona. Expect a fired-up D’Tea in Sin City.

Rookie Watch
- JF Valley scored a podium in Round 1. Can he keep the momentum?

- Parker Retzlaff has quietly built confidence — his smooth driving fits Vegas well.

- Trent Bordeaux and Jimbo “Sulley” Sullivan need a clean race to shake off their Daytona wrecks.
Vegas is where the real title chase begins — and where the field gets its first chance to settle scores and show who's built to win on pure speed.

Qualifying Recap

Under the desert sun and with a cool breeze sweeping across the speedway, 26 trucks took to the track in single-truck qualifying — and the field got shuffled hard from Daytona form.

Front Row Lockout – ThorSport Strikes Back
Pole Position: Ben Rhodes (#99, ThorSport Racing, Ford)
2nd: Arthur D’Tea (#51, ThorSport Racing, Ford)

After disappointment in Daytona, ThorSport returns with a vengeance, locking out the front row. Rhodes was laser-focused, throwing down a lap that edged out D'Tea by just 0.021 seconds. D'Tea, still hungry after underperforming at Daytona, was all business: "We’re here to win. Period."
