Dixie Carter discussed the importance of Hulk Hogan to TNA during a recent interview with BANG Showbiz. Carter went on to claim that Hogan is the most famous wrestler in the world and his fame rivals Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley.

“He (Hulk) is bigger than any brand, company, name – he is synonymous with wrestling and is probably one of the most recognisable faces or figures on the entire planet. Name me someone who is alive today who’d be more recognisable in any corner of the world? In places like Africa and Asia, or if you were walking in Thailand? Princess Diana or Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley maybe? But they aren’t even with us anymore. The Rock?

“Well, if you are walking in a village in Africa would people know who The Rock was? I think his film work has been outstanding. I’m a huge fan of The Rock, I think he is phenomenal, but would that happen?â€￾

So is this accurate? In the 80s and mid 90s without a doubt.

During the late 90s I'd say Stone Cold or the Rock.

Since then probably Cena and still yes the Rock. Thoughts?

I agree, in some ways Hogan will always been the biggest wrestling name, the guy was the top name in the first wrestling boom of the 80s and has had that longivity, but then in the 90s when he started to get over exposed the likes of Austin and Rock did over take him, but whether they can have that same staying power in 20 or 30 years remains to be seen. Also think Hogan crossed over into the main stream (outside of wrestling) more than those guys.

Still this is odd timing, seems like Dixie just trying to run down the compulation to me.

She's right. He's the most recognizable wrestler in the history of the business. I'm sorry, but to say otherwise is ridiculous. Yes, I love the Rock. Yes, I love Stone Cold, or whoever else you Attitude Era junkies throw out there, but Hulk Hogan is an institution. Say what you want about him overstaying his welcome in wrestling, but he's The Icon of Icons.

(Fuck, if Dixie reads this, he's got a new nickname)

It's a pretty obvious statement by Dixie. I'm glad that she has at least a modicum of knowledge of the wrestling world. Until now, I wasn't sure if she really did tbh.

Currently as it stands, the younger wrestling fans will not know him so well as compared to John Cena or The Rock. But for the older fans would instantly think of him when asked about wrestling.

And the non fan who would they respond too? I don't think you'd get Hulk Hogan from them anymore you say hogan and they say he's still alive? Even with his show.

But by "Most famous in the world" are they really referring to it from a wrestling stand-point or just most famous according to everyone. Of course Hogan isn't going to be the most famous in the wrestling world anymore, but I wouldn't say he's too far off in terms of the general population. Rock's number one though.

Unless you are talking about kids about ten I don't agree with that, maybe because he works for TNA and WWE that makes a difference.

I know plenty of adults who have no idea who Hogan is or was. They've seen the rock.

Because of his movie career it might be fair to say that the Rock is bigger right now, but in terms of overall sucess and whether he will have the same longivity as Hogan that is debatable.

That's not the question though the question is who has more fame.

Hogan the most famous?

Is he still selling out arenas by name presence alone? Has TNA profited tenfold since his joining? Has he been in the media for anything other than a sex tape in the past ten years? Has he been on the tonight show as much as, say Cena, or Rock?

Hogan is Hogan, I will give him that. He is one of the biggest names of the professional wrestling world, but I don't think any companies or fans are motioning or prying for him to show up in their hometowns, there is no real want or even any connection to audiences around the world.

There is no doubting Hogan is one of the biggest names in the business - but to say he is up there with Michael Jackson or Elvis in terms of popularity... Lol! We're in an age where Hogan is irrelevant, simply because Hogan has MADE Hogan irrelevant.

We go back 20 - 25 years ago when Hogan was on the top of everyone heads and Hulkamania was running wild, sure - I would say he was the most famous in the world. Now? He's only worth and wanted for a small fraction of what he was, and I guarantee you - ask any fan what wrestler they want to see, I doubt Hogan will even come up more than 2 times out of 10.

In my opinion as much as I dont really like it, Rock is probably the most famous if he would qualify as a Wrestler, second only to Cena. Cena has outsold and has become bigger than Hogan in terms of crowd popularity/hate recognition and money. Hogan isn't the most popular anymore, and I can argue all day long with anyone who says he is. Fandango is more popular than Hogan right now. When Hogan is in the media again, selling out arena's, starting trends around the world or becoming bigger than life in countries like India and reveling in the stardom he once had, as opposed to just wearing out his name in a company that even HE couldn't put more on the map; than I will say he is the most famous.

The Rock is most famous and years later he'll still be known cause of his movies. Simple as that. Hogan's face is still one of those timeless recognizable things out there. That's never gonna change. No matter what Hogan will always be known around the world. But as of now... The Rock has surpassed him.

The biggest star in wrestling history is easily The Rock, he's the only one to have had a real, successful career outside of wrestling. Its one thing for wrestling fans to know you exist but when the average joe who never watches knows you exist that's a big deal.

If you look at Hulk Hogan, wrestling fan, or non fan "Hey, that's hulk Hogan, wrestler."

If you look at the Rock, wrestling fans will be "Hey, The Rock." If a non fan "Hey, that's that dude from The Tooth Fairy and some of those Fast and Furious Movies. Dwayne Johnston or some shit?

If you SERIOUSLY think The ROck is an A-List Hollywood Actor, you've apparently never seen a movie.

Hulk Hogan, across generations, in the most recognizable WRESTLER in the world. TNA is a shit company with shit booking and no fucking ad dollars. Put Hogan in the WWE and he'd sell out the arenas no less than he did 25 years ago, if he's booked like it makes sense. Is he Elvis, Princess Di, Michael Jackson? No, but who the fuck is?

If you serz think the Rock is on that plateau, you need to step out of the wrestling bubble and REALLY analyze shit.
