According to my sportsbook the Jays are the odds on favorites to win the WS. A's are a 33-1 longshot. Brews like 40-1

Yeah i dont think we have a shot in hell with Cincy making moves and the Cards being there always. Who knows though, we had that "horrible" season last year where our bullpen cost us 27 wins, and we nearly made the playoffs.

I'll stay optimistic.

Oakland always seems to pull some sort of miraculous streak at the end of every season. I would never count them out.

Not really, they do it once in awhile. Before last year they had missed the playoffs every year since 2006( several games under .500 in most.), and before that 2003 was their last apperance.

They were really bad after they unloaded following the 2006 season (lost in the ALCS to Detroit with our Haren/Zito led squad), but before that his statement was accurate. The A's were notorious in the first half of the 2000s decade for going on massive runs in the second half of the season.

2000-2003 and 2006. I can only recall the one year when they really had that unreal second half surge(Probably because it was highlighted in MoneyBall). I just know most recently they have been more of an afterthought(besides last year.) I'm not going to say they don't have a shot (two wc playoff spots) but i'd be very very surprised if they won the division, that's all. Good luck dude.

I mean, we are the underdog for a reason. Of course we aren't expected to win the division when facing two teams that have individual players making as much as our entire roster make.

And from 2000-2006 you could pretty much count on the A's to get hot in the second half of the season. Some years they came up short on the playoffs/division, but they always heat up after the AS break. just how it's always been.

Word, they need to get hot out of the gate and stay hot, or atleast stick within 5-7 games by september. If they can do that, they have a shot. :obama:

Hopefully they can start hot. The reason they didn't get hot until late last year was because we were mixing and matching our lineup and rotation. Once we get the kids into the rotation that we made a run with it was like the flood gates opened up and we couldn't lose games.

Hell yeah, i'll be rooting for em. I for some reason watched a lot of their games last year too. Probably because they are usually just starting when mets finish.

You are just a closet bay area sports fanboy :adr:

They were amazing to watch though. Every game felt like it hinged on every AB, with Oakland pulling out countless late game/walk off wins.

Well, I would say I was a fanboy of the Athletics last year, but who wasn't? As for GS, i'm just a BIG Steph Curry/David Lee fan.

Yup last year was fun to watch, especially with the constant walk off wins.

The game 4 comeback win against Detroit really exemplified the 2012 A's. Too bad we didn't have the juice to deal with Verlander in game 5.

Don't know if anyone has the juice to deal with Verlander. The guy is an absolute beast. I expect all of our games against them to be 1-0 if its Dickey/Verlander.

Verlander 84-99 mph

Dickey 59-82 mph

Same results, extraordinary stuff.

We'll see how Dickey does coming back to the AL. I still remember his horrible days as a Ranger.

Yeah, in his book he wrote all about those days. He was kind of in a bad spot and didn't have his pitch perfected until he landed in the minors as a met. It's a thing of beauty
