Anyone hearing Jenna Ortega is reportly asking out of her Contract from the Scream Movies because of Melissa's firing? If true well that is two Daggers to the franchise.

Those haven’t come from anybody with legit sources. Those are just people wishing she would. If she’s already siged a contract, it doesn’t work like that though. She’s just gonna do the movie and then walk away from negotiations for another or whatever.

Chances are by then the rights will be with someone else and they’ll bring Melissa back in.

I love the Scream franchise and I loved the two most recent Screams. I was excited for the next one but with this news I won’t see it unless they bring her back on, which is a shame.

Spyglass is the studio behind the new Thanksgiving movie that’s out right now too, which I was planning on seeing but now I’ll probably wait until it hits streaming.

She wasn’t going to come back anyway long before this news about Melissa came out. This franchise is cooked it seems like.

I figured it would be reduced because I definitely knew with 7 filming in March and Wednesday in April it would be hard.

I will say narratively speaking, they ended 6 in a way to end the Carpenter sister storyline. So they can now go back and make one last one with Neve or just do another part 5.

The crazy thing about this universe is how universal the concept of Ghostface is. Any random group of friends can have a mysterious backstory that leads two friends to don the world famous mask and voice and stalk their friends. Similar to the tv show, but using the actual mask and voice.

I will also say if they don’t bring back Tara or Sidney to be the main lead, not a cameo, move the franchise away from Woodsboro, Maureen Prescott and Billy Loomis. I feel the franchise could use a reset and establish a brand new backstory that gruels the next trilogy.

If you haven’t seen the tv show, check what they did. A brand new small town, a different incident that happened in the past that haunts their friends.

I already felt like Scream 4 was unnecessary when I saw it at the cinema to be honest, and that the original trilogy was enough.

The only reason 4 was unnecessary is because it didn’t really advance the original plot or start a new one, imo.

That’s my point. The concept no longer needs Woodsboro. It’s like how Star Wats finally concluded the Skywalker Saga.

I’m just a sucker for slashers, though. We had a massive drought for like 15 years so I don’t want to see them go away again. I feel like the Ghostface concept would be good for trilogies where you start fresh every ten years with a new cast.

Like Link said, you can write a new script with a new friend group. And yes, the Sam/Daddy Loomis angle seemed to be over.

I kind of figured Jenna Ortega/Tara was going to grow into the new main character after Scream 5 because she was blowing up at the time. But I guess with Wednesday’s success, it’s impossible.

I still say give Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and Hayden Panitierre a shit ton of money though.

4 felt like it would’ve fit more in the TV Universe than the Cinematic Universe. They just shoe horned Sydney in there with some cousin we previously had never heard of.

Yeah, I would prefer a new cast, but I do feel the play will be to go back to the old cast. Especially now that they have Kirby. A new film with Sidney, Gale and Kirby could honestly make 4 feel more connected if they tie back to Jill somehow.

If they plan on doing a Scream 8 with a new cast, they should do what they did in Scream 5 and kill a Legacy character.

They’d never kill Syndey, so realistically if Gale and/or Kirby are in Scream 7, one(maybe both) gotta go

Scream isn’t Halloween. There’s never been a Michael Myers. Not a single motive for every killer. I think that’s what makes it different.

In the film universe the Stab movies have made Ghostface iconic. Every teen in their universe knows the mask and voice. It actually makes no sense there hasn’t been a murder spree unconnected to Sidney or Billy Loomis yet.

And yes, it has to be called Scream if you use the mask and voice. The tv show could have been called something else because it didn’t use them.

I feel Scream could be like the tv shows Slasher and American Horror Story. Except with an unifying theme.
