Mark Henry "Retirement" Angle

It appears as if Mark Henry will be announcing his retirement tomorrow night on RAW. He noted on his Twitter that he will have a big announcement tomorrow night on RAW, and then posted these tweets:

"Whether you loved or hated me in my career.I was all ways there for you.i appreciate u all. Good or bad I will live forever with u the fans.

"I found a place.
"#raw #wwe I have spoke to my family and hope to talk to all of you fans tomorrow live from Grand Rapids. Guys Father Time is undefeated.

Nothing confirmed yet but judging from those tweets it does seem plausible that his big announcement will be announcing his retirement.


His career has definitely been a story of two halves. He signed a ten year contract with WWE in 1996 and early on never really got going. He started to find his stride in the mid 00's in the Smackdown mainevent but it was his run in ECW in 08/09 that finally showed the fans what Henry can do. He had his character sorted at the time and Tony Atlas was the perfect foil as his manager. His inring performances improved greatly over time as well and he had the best run of his career starting in 2011 on Smackdown. He was heel again and started his Hall of Pain and took it all the way to the World Heavyweight Title. Finished on a decent high with the best work of his career coming in his last couple of years plus he picked up a win at WM this year over Ryback.

Your thoughts on Henry thoughout his near two decades with WWE? Will he actually retire tonight?

He's had a pretty decent career and has proven loyal to WWE.

It will suck to see him actually leave, I would have wanted him to stay for one last run.

If he is retiring it would have been nice for him to decide a couple of months earlier to end it at WM29. Even if he had then been booked to lose to Ryback it would have been a great way to go out in front of 80k people. It is amazing to think that he has been with the company for close to two decades when many wouldn't have predicted him to last half that time.

Over the years I have always given Henry some kind of flack. But honestly, I've always kind of enjoyed his work. Would be depressing to see him go after so many faithful years. But if he feels it's time, I think it's time.

The guy had a hell of a career. He started right at the beginning of the Attitude era and is one of the last guys standing from that era. It's going to be a shame to see him go.

He lasted a lot longer than I thought he would that's for sure. That said I think he'll tease retirement but not actually goes through with it and creates a storyline from it.

I think he will say he's retiring, give the whole speech, and the Wyatt Family debut by taking him out. That gives him the option to sit at home, rest, and decide if he has one more run left in him or not

WWE finally gave me that Mark Henry push in 2011 that I always wanted, and it put asses in seats. I've been waiting nearly as long as he's been int he company for him to do that.

The guy was in an MITB at WrestleMania and was actually a good addition to the match, amazing for his size (Not htat he was doing hurricanrana's off the ladder or something but still)

His 2011 "Vader" run with the Hall of Pain was awesome. It was heart warming to see a man who had struggled so much, and had been a turd in a singlet for years finally make it in the main event.

If this is his retirement, then thank you for your time, Mark. Hopefully they can find some sort of ambassador role for him, or perhaps a manager role or something in a few years time.

Mark Henry is by far the best actor wwe has. Who would've thought he could pull out the water works like that. Definitely a very memorable moment in wwe history.

Yeah no shit, I was sitting there giggling at every stupid thing he said because I felt like it might be the last Mark Henry promo. I really hope he received a standing ovation when he went back behind the curtain.
