There are two things I want you to take from this. The first is the Alberto/Latin match is going to draw and probably draw big. AAA is spending eight months building those two up as the most important people in the promotion and is willing to burn everything else down to make sure fans understand it. It would’ve been a big deal cold because they’re two of the biggest mainstream names in Mexico wrestling, but this build will work. There are real and obvious problems with sacrificing the rest of the promotion around two men heading out of their physical primes, but Today’s AAA has decided that’s a problem for Tomorrow’s AAA.
The other part is the era of El Hijo del Vikingo as the face of AAA is finished. AAA feels they tried it, but it didn’t work, and they’re moving on. You can argue (and I would argue) how true those first two parts are. I can’t argue that they’re moving on. Vikingo is staying in AAA, AAA might even make up the Alberto/Vikingo title match later, but they don’t have Alberto completely destroy Vikingo if they think that’s an important match or if Vikingo is an important person. He’s going to be around the upper levels, he might even have better matches working with the Laredos and Octagons than he would’ve in the top mix. Still, that angle was a clear sign they don’t see him as a top guy anymore.
