Fightful: Notes on Some Wrestlers That Were Pitched As Brock Lesnar’s WrestleMania 39 Opponent
Fightful dropped a detailed report about Brock Lesnar’s WrestleMania situation. It was noted in the report that Steve Austin was approached in the Summer about a match against Lesnar, but he declined.
Gunther was then listed as Brock Lesnar’s opponent, as far back as November 21, leading into Survivor Series. There was no reason given why that match was nixed. It was also reported that the IC Title wasn’t mentioned at all as part of that match. Bobby Lashley was also a part of the conversation. It was reported they're not sure what happened to cause that one to be off, but that led to Lashley facing Bray Wyatt.
Bray Wyatt was also pitched for Lesnar. It was also noted that, “we’re not sure necessarily when Bray Wyatt was pitched as a possible opponent for WrestleMania, but he was mentioning it as recently as right before WWE Elimination Chamber. Sources familiar with the situation claim that Brock himself nixed the idea, though we weren’t given specifics as to why.”
