Cody losing last year made him go over Brock (and get the respect from Brock), then become the 4th Back-to-Back Rumble winner behind 3 of the greatest of all time. This is why he lost it wasn't his time last year. It is now he's winning now.

The rumble isn’t necessary for his story. Seth and Punk have heat going back a long time. Cody needed a guarantee that Roman would take his challenge.

Both matches are happening.

The finish was great, though. Punk got cocky and heelish, insulted Dusty and Cody said fuck you.

As a Punk fan, I still loved it. Great storytelling.
