TMZ.com is reporting that TNA star Kurt Angle was arrested this morning in North Dakota after failing a field sobriety test and allegedly operating his car while intoxicated.

According to the report, Angle (who is in the middle of a loop of TNA house shows) was arrested after police found him sitting in his car "in the median separating lanes" in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Angle failed a field sobriety test that was given to him after authorities allegedly smelled alcohol on his breath. Angle was arrested and charged with being in control of a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Since he wasn't seen driving the car by police, they could not charge him with a DUI.

The report noted that Angle claimed he was sitting in the road due to hitting an icy patch on the road while driving.

Angle was arrested in 2007 in Moon Township, PA on a DUI charge after police received a report of an erratic driver leaving a local bar. Angle was the charged with driving under the influence and careless driving after police traced the description of the car to his home. Angle was later found not guilty on those charges when the complaining witness was unable to corroborate her story.

Angle was also arrested in 2009 on a number of assault and harassment-related charges involving former girlfriend Tranesha Biggers, although in the end those charges were all dropped. At the time, Angle was charged with driving with a suspended license, as a result of the license never being reinstated after his 2007 court case was resolved.
Angle is already out on bail and is scheduled for tonight's TNA house show at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks, facing Jeff Jarrett.

So they can't charge him with DUI because they didn't see him drive the car but he admits to driving the car?

Not a good sign for Angle and TNA and this hasn't happened for some time in wrestling. I remember Santino and one of the DiBiase's doing it last year and I do remember Angle's DUI from 2007.

Also why don't they just use breathalyzers right away instead of subjective FST's? They are accurate and they give an immediate result.

I wonder if TNA will write this into storylines. Maybe Jeff Jarrett will mention it before their match at Lockdown.

EDIT: Here is Angle's response to TMZ's story:

Despite being arrested Friday morning, Kurt Angle wrestled Jeff Jarrett at last night’s TNA event in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Regarding the incident that was reported by TMZ, Angle wrote the following on Twitter:

“Thank U to my supporters. I was not drunk. I was in ice storm and my car slid into 3 ft of snow median. I called police 4 help. They had other plans. I was stuck and wanted to go to my hotel. I was not passed out Drunk. I was co-herent. I’m sorry if I let you down. Don’t believe everything You read. My life is good and this is a speed bump in the road. The truth will come out. GOD Bless. I take responsibility.”

Angle also wrote that his job is to stay clean and never put himself in jeopardy, noting that TMZ blew the story out of proportion that and that he would give the real story once his hearings were over. He since deleted that message.

Two completely different stories so I assume the truth is somewhere in the middle of the two stories.

Well he has had this sort of problem in the past, and while I don't think TNA should be overly concerned about it right now, it is something which still does pop up from time to time, and Angle does let him self down when it does happen.

I hate seeing this stuff happen. I've been a Kurt Angle fan since he won the Gold Medal in Atlanta. I'm from Pittsburgh, Kurt's hometown, and I've met the guy several times. He has been nothing but nice and polite in my brief encounters with him. I know there is alot that could go down behind closed doors, I mean it isn't like Kurt has the greatest life. He's divorced, he keeps having these charges put on him on a variety of different things. If Kurt was as golden as he appears these stories wouldn't happen. But its a shame as I see Kurt as one of my role models so I'm praying he wasn't drunk. But tbh he wasn't driving so even if he was drinking the worse he will probably get is a hefty fine and possibly lose his license. I don't believe his matches or anything of the sort will be hurt Kurt's career. I really hope the guy can get his shit together though. I don't want him being the next Jeff Hardy.

Not a huge issue imo, everyone once in awhile gets stopped for DUI.

I agree with Gold Standard, next TNA champion.

Kurt is fine here sure he did something wrong with the law. When he was the top heel for TNA I remember he got in trouble in the law doing something.

I don't see this as a huge deal, but then again I don't watch TNA or follow it. There's a ton of Wrestlers that get in trouble with the law and everything seems to turn out okay for the promotion they work for.

Here is the judgment:

pwinsider said:
Yesterday, 4/8, Kurt Angle pleaded guilty to a charge of reckless driving for the incident that occurred on the 3/25 near Thompson, ND where Angle's SUV was found stopped in the median of Interstate 29. Angle initially claimed that he skidded off the road after he hit an icy patch but state troopers on the scene said that the road was dry that night. Angle later claimed he was distracted when he got a text message. The police said that they smelled alcohol on Angle's breath at the time but since he wasn't actually driving he couldn't be charged with DUI. They did say that Angle failed a field sobriety test and was taken to the Grand Forks County jail where his blood-alcohol level was .083 percent. The legal limit to drive in North Dakota is .08 percent.

Under the terms of a plea deal, Angle would have to pay a $475 fine, serve a year of unsupervised probation and undergo a chemical dependency evaluation. He would also receive a suspended sentence of 10 days in jail.

Angle was not in court for the plea deal, which is pending judge's approval.

Not sure what this says about Angle's mental state since he first claimed ice, but there was no ice, then said he was distracted by a text message. Then he says he wasn't drinking but his blood-alcohol level was above the legal limit. Add to this the Twitter incident where his account was hacked no wait it was a family member that posted remarks about WM. The guy clearly has something loose upstairs and has had something loose for a long time.

Also how come this was brought to court and settled within a couple of weeks yet the Hardy case has taken over a year and just goes on and on.

Just more of a reflection of priorities for the American Justice system imo.
