So tensions in the Korean Peninsula have been all over the news again the past week with people fearing that North Korea will unleash a nuclear weapon. US are sending missile ballistic defence systems down to Guam and have sent another warship to the Peninsula as well. Once again tensions increased whilst US and South Korea were going through their normal war games that they hold all the time. One issue this time around was US bringing nuclear capable stealth bombers to the war games, not the smartest idea to bring those types of planes into a tense situation. North Korea responded by saying they had entered into a state of war with South Korea, even though technically they have been at war since 1953 and the ceasefire agreement was rescinded earlier this year anyway.

I still think that this is all just hot air from North Korea. They only escalated things because of the type of planes that US brought to South Korea which would have had them worried. Everytime US and South Korea hold war games, the North get annoyed and make threats that never lead to anything. They know that if they go to war they are screwed because China and Russia won't back them, they will simple stand back and won't support either side. They need China and Russia onside to ensure aid continues to flow into the country to feed the people. To me this just screams of Kim Jong Un trying to show that he is as tough as his father and isn't a pushover.

Anyone think that we will actually see North Korea launch a nuclear weapon or even just attack another country with any missiles?

Don't see NK going through with any of their threats, thankfully China still has a massive influence there and war of any kind in the region - especially of a nuclear variety - is ultimately bad for business. I think all NK are doing is further alienating themselves in the region so much such that even long time allies such as China must be wondering if it's worth it.

If Kim Jong Un DID try and kick something off for real, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he was removed in a coup. Probably orchestrated by the Chinese rather than the US this time. Either way I don't see this turning into another Cuban Missile Crisis. It'll never be allowed to get that far.

I heard the US moved some sort of listening post that was stationed off the coast of North Korea closer to the country so they could monitor them better. I honestly don't know wtf North Korea is doing right now, but all that flexing is making them seem hostile, and if they don't do anything it'll make Kim Jong Un look weak. I honestly think this situation has already become slightly messy and the US bringing in stealth war ships isn't exactly placating the situation.

Kim Jong UGH whatever his name is a clown. He's just a snotty rich kid that inherited a country he can't even maintain himself. We should just assassinate him before he does something incredibly stupid but I don't know who the hell they could replace him with.

I read the North Korea wiki page the other day and I had no idea it was THAT bad there.

They still have concentration camps and all businesses are state owned, whether you founded it or not.

Everything about the place seems like an oriental Nazi regime.

There is a really great documentary about North Korea that I watched the other day. Can't exactly remember what it was called because it was an impulse watch but it is on Netflix.

No-one will remove Kim Jong Un, he will be there until he dies. If US did even try to assassinate him North Korea will immediately start firing all the missiles they have at whoever they can hit. Would be a terrible idea to assassinate a leader of a country with nuclear weapons. If the US want to assassinate someone, Robert Mugabe is still hanging around in Zimbabwe.

I don't think that it is going to go too far either, I think that once the war games stop things will go back to normal as in very tense but not to the state it is now. I am still trying to find a decent reason as to why US sent nuclear capable stealth bombers down there, surely they knew it would freak out North Korea and cause them to react.

Was it by vice? They created a good documentary of North Korea, really interesting to see all the hoops they had to jump through to get there and just how controlled their tour was.

The North won't do anything because they know it'd be suicide. Not only do they have no allies, but there weapons are really rudimentary. Sure, their standing army is huge, but what good is that when you're getting carpet bombed by stealth jets from 60,000 feet. We would turn North Korea into a parking lot if they ever tried to use a nuclear weapon and that's a fact. You guys should read the official state page and see how propagandist it is. It makes N. Korea out to be an incredibly fair and democratic nation even though it's more Stalinist than even the Soviet Union was under Stalin.

True they don't have any chance if they were to actually go to war. They might be able to hit South Korea near the border but that would be about it because right after US would take them out. It is quite funny reading their official news pages and seeing their news broadcasts because of how twisted the news is. I just feel sorry for those citizens that live there and have no idea how bad that country is for them and that can't get any actual factual news. For so many this is all they know as they have no contact with the outside world.

I just looked it up. It was National Geographic: Inside North Korea.

Might have to look for that Vice one now.

I also saw that documentary. It was excellent. There was another documentary made by a Dutch film crew, but that was state sanctioned so of course it showed only the most loyal and privileged families and you know what, even listening to those families it sounds like something is off. With those families, though, you watch and it looks like at least they're provided for but we all know that's an extreme minority. It's hard to describe how blind the people there are from being brainwashed for so long.

The vice one is state sponsored as well so they can only go where their guides take them. The people there just don't know any better since they have no contact with the outside world, no internet, no news not from the state media, they are probably the most sheltered people on earth. It is crazy to think how much freer poeple are in countries like Iran or Cuba compared to North Koreans. The only ones provided for there would be those in the military and that is why so many join up, basically the only way to ensure that you have enough for your family.

You know I find it kind of amazing that the US or the UN haven't decided to do something about NK yet. Saddam didn't even have the weapons and we went in their time and time again. This guy has bombs or we at least sincerely believe he does and he's actually threatening to use them.
