WWE announced that Kelly Kelly has been released from her contract.
WWE's statement on the release reads, "WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Diva Kelly Kelly as of today, September 28, 2012. WWE wishes Kelly Kelly the best in all her future endeavors."
As we noted previously here on PWInsider.com, there has been talk for some time that Kelly was looking to get out of her deal and work on outside modeling and acting endeavors.
When PWInsider.com first noted that she was taking meetings in Hollywood outside of the company auspices, WWE attempted to sign Kelly to a new, longer term deal but that never happened.
Kelly was a catalog model who was signed by the company after being spotted by John Laurinaitis. She was signed to developmental and trained as a wrestler, making her debut on the first ECW on Sci Fi episode in June 2006. She has been pushed as one of the company's top babyfaces for some time. After taking time off from the company, she made a few appearances but was not worked back into WWE storylines as a major player.
Not surprised.
