Jon Jones Injured, Rashad Evans vs Phil Davis Booked for UFC 133

Rashad Evans will have to put his desire to take the UFC Light Heavyweight Title away from Jon Jones on hold as a hand injury has forced Jones out of the UFC 133 contest.

In his place will be surging light heavyweight Phil Davis who will look to stake his claim to a title shot by way of Evans.

When asked about the change in opponent, Evans offered the following:

“I’m looking forward to fighting Phil Davis August 6th at UFC 133, he’s a strong wrestler and a rising star in the light heavyweight division,â€￾ said Evans. “I wish Jon Jones a speedy recovery, he has something that belongs to me and when he’s ready, I’ll be waiting.â€￾

Shame we won't be seeing that fight because it would have been good to see what Jones could do against Rashad. I am one of those on the Jon Jones bandwagon but I am also on the Phil Davis bandwagon so I am glad with this replacement. Huge step up for Davis and this will be tough for him.

I was planning to go to this, but Evans/Davis doesn't interest me as much as Jones/Evans would. So I don't think I'm going to go, plus I'd rather save up for the first MSG show here in New York or when they go back to Newark.

Davis going in, it is a safe bet for the UFC. If Davis wins they can promote this as an undefeated prospect, and not to mention if Davis loses it could be a good learning experience for him as Rashad is a former LHW champion. So it was a safe bet putting Davis in.
