Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger called in to Chael Sonnen's podcast this week and revealed that he has requested his release from WWE. Audio from the segment is above. Swagger said he requested the release yesterday and while it's still an "ongoing process," the decision came down to contract negotiations and the two sides were way off. Swagger said the company doesn't value him as much as he values himself and it's time to go.

Swagger added that he left WWE because he wasn't receiving opportunities. He's looking forward to wrestling in the UK, Mexico and Japan. Swagger also expressed interest in doing MMA if someone wants to pay him.

Swagger first signed with WWE back in 2006, later winning the World Heavyweight Title in 2009. Swagger has been off TV for a few months now and last wrestled at a live event in late January.

As of this writing, Swagger remains on WWE's roster page. Stay tuned for updates on his status.

Well, that sucks. But, then again, he's been a get-nowhere superstar for the last couple of years, so it's not much of a loss anyway, I guess.

He's better off without WWE and hopefully Swagger signs somewhere where he'll be utilized properly.

I always wanted to see him in NJPW, so hopefully they sign him.

He should do well on the indie scene right?

Yeah, he's got all the tools to succeed elsewhere.

He's not that good of a promo guy, but he's not downright bad either. He's a pretty good wrestler, though, and wrestles his matches like he wants to win.

The dude's simply a badass.

He's tailor-made to work in Japan (preferably in NJPW) and to be a big, badass gaijin/foreigner.

They try to keep him long enough so people forget his gimmick and he can't succeed else where.... just like they won't let him use his name

I never understood why they can't let some of the guys atleast make a living for themselves, it's bullshit.

I just looked and he's only 34 years of age.... hopefully he can do well

I was just wondering where TF he has been the other day since I seen his name on the roster still, they built this guy up so strong at first only to get squashed and never help him recover, seems like they do it with everybody..... Nexus, Rusev, Drew, Sheamus ect ect ect

I think swagger sucks, mainly because he doesn't have the charisma or mic skills I'd like him to have, but his last "we the people" gimmick was alright. I didn't mind him at the end. But idc if he's gone.

Keep him away from Bullet Club and debut him in a program against one of the baby face Japanese wrestlers, Tanahashi would work I think, he's free now isn't he?

Just look at Elgin, he was flaundering in WWE and he's getting a decent push in NJPW and the crowd is getting behind him and he's working with a top class talent. Can't ask for much more than that.

I think it's all for the best. WWE hasn't used him recently, so he will be better off in the indies. He could definitely do some good work in Japan. Or maybe he'll reconnect with a former manager in another promotion :zeb:

A Lashley/Swagger feud on TNA? I mean they are going to need
something after all the performers they've lost in the last week or two.
That would be pretty awesome if they did it right. They just need to let them fight it out and not talk too much if it ever did happen (although Lashley has improved leaps and bounds on the mic, so maybe Swagger could too if given the chance). I suspect that the match quality would be pretty good.
