There has been much talk on this board about the likes of Dolph Ziggler and Drew Mcintyre being good young wrestlers who have big futures in WWE. Well for me the All American, American is the real deal! He has a good look to start off with, and by that I mean looks a natural athlete, he has decent mic skills and a confident personaity, and of course is a good wrestler, who can mix it up in terms of styles, for example he is a pretty solid brawler.
However since he dropped the World Title last year [which he was given too soon anyway] the treatment of him has been terrible. A few weeks ago I was watching raw and he had a match with Booker T, which not only did he lose on a weak count out finish, but he was also dominated by the semi-retired Booker all the way through the match. Now don't get me wrong it was good to see Booker make a one off appearence, and he seems the ideal veteran to give Swagger some rub, but to start of with this sort of match should have been on a ppv, and second would it not have made more sense for the guy making a one off appearence, who is in his 40's now, to put the up and coming twenty something over.
Last week was even worse, as he faced Sgt Slaughter who nobody cares about. Luckily Jack won this time, but it was a very short match, and the win did little if anything for him, and he still got beat down by Evan Bourne and Slaughter after the match. Speaking of Bourne the feud between him and Swagger has be relegated to the bottom section of raw, which makes no sense considering they are two of WWE's youngest and brightest names.
So something needs to be done, firstly a face change, and really his current character would only need a little twick, because providing they didn't make it too cheesy, the All American character would be a good fit for a baby face, it worked well for Kurt Angle in 2001. The only thing while playing that side up, I would also mould Swagger's face character on Jericho's from 2000-01, where he would be quite colourful on the mic, and make an habbit of insulting his foes, because he has quite a relaxed but also a cocky tone to him, this could work.
Character wise I would rebuild him, by going back to his roots and showing footege of him when he was younger, and about his sports background growing up, then after a series of videos, you could have Swagger after the final one, in confident fashion say "That was then and this is now, this is the New and improved All American American!" I would then rebuild him in something like a wrestling based, best of seven series against a fellow mid-carder on raw, and then get him ready for the likes of Del Rio and Miz, who he could really have some great matches and feuds with.
What would you do, to re-build Jack Swagger.
