Wrestling is scripted, not fake. I think calling it fake is just a jab at the fans because they know they will get pissed over it and discuss it.

I am not a fan of what they are doing. I think it is too easy and cheap. They have a team full of writers and this is the best they can come up with?

See, someone gets it. Wrestling was fake back during kayfabe. This is because there was an effort to make it look like it was real and they pretended it was real. So yes, it WAS fake. But now the companies and wrestlers do not pretend it is real. It's like any television show. When you go to see wrestling, you are not going to watch a fight. If you were going to watch a fight, then yes, it is fake. But you're going to watch pro wrestling, which is a sport in which men or women put on a performance simulating a fight.

See, fake is something very specific. And if wrestling companies are telling you that this is real fighting, then it is fake. But they don't do that. We all know pro wrestling is a performance art and we go to it to see pro wrestling, not real fighting.

QUOTE.. "I'm not really sure," Hogan admitted." I can't wrestle anymore because nine back surgeries, two fake knees, two fake hips. ... I've had 17 surgeries in the last ten years. I kinda missed the memo on the 'fake' part [of wrestling] END QUOTE FROM THIS WEEK.....

I wouldn't even look at back in the day as the example. NXT consistently gets their perfomers over by simply highlighting strengths or providing engaging in-kayfabe angles, New Japan gives a year-long storyline to a burgeoning star to put him over the top, WWE even has it's most success using stuff that worked in the past. Even in 2019, kayfabe works.
