I was discussing with one of my mates the other day whether or not using the word "gay" to describe something that is bad isn't right. A lot of people I know use it.

The question I ask is do you feel like if it's not meant in an offensive way that it's really bad?

It's gay to freak out over words in general. Moral majority be damned!

The language of words evolve and over time they can change meaning or have multiple meanings. The word "gay" used to mean happy for instance. Today when it's used in your context, it's meant to mean "lame" and rarely is the intent to bash LGBT people. In others words, stop being so gay and getting bent out of shape over common language.

I'm not sure if that's aimed at me but I don't get annoyed over common language, I was just discussing it with a friend.

Nah, I was talking in general. It was also jest. People put far too much power into words and their effect.

Yeah if you're not throwing a word around to harm people it's not a big deal. Words only have what power they're given and if you say something is gay or call your friend a fag all in fun, that's all it is. It isn't some big homophobic thing, it's just not talking things so seriously.

So yeah context most definitely matters and it's pretty clear for the most part when someone is saying something for shits and giggles or saying something out of a place of hate or whatever.
