Is it acceptable to root for 2 teams?

I see nothing wrong with someone supporting more than one team as long as they stay loyal to those teams and not switch it up often and become a bandwagoner.

Me personally in the pro sports I follow, I usually "support" two teams: My favorite team and the team my favorite player who doesn't play for my favorite team plays for. However, I wouldn't call myself a fan of that 2nd team, I just cheer for them.

Personally, I'm a Montreal Canadiens fan and will always cheer for them no matter what. But being from Ottawa, if the Habs aren't in the playoffs then I'll definitely cheer for the home town team. That's really the only circumstance under which I'll cheer for someone else though.

Lifelong Cowboys fan. Good and bad. I go back so far enough to remember when they sucked before the 90's glory run. It's not all roses and sunlight in fandom. My friend, also a diehard Cowboys fan, is also a Saints fan. While I don't understand being able to go for another team in the same conference (Rule #1. I agree OP), I don't give him too much shit about it.

I'm a big Drew Brees fan, and it gives me one other game I give a shit about each week. I don't watch football. I watch Cowboys games. I haven't watched the playoffs in a few years now. True story. The Super Bowl, save Patriots-Giants 2 a couple years ago, I still watch, but solely because his Creole mother makes Gumbo those Sundays lol.

Oddly, however, I am not a lifelong baseball fan. I've been trying for the greater part of a decade to actually "get" baseball's appeal. Same with said friend. When we made the commitment to ACTUALLY watch baseball and give it a legit shot, after 2 years of faithful recap watching and scoreboard viewing, we actually had the "Who are we going to root for?" Discussion. We discussed the Dodgers, the Rangers, and the White Sox but finally went with the hometown Rangers.

So we started opening day and kept faithfully watching. We were hooked. It didn't hurt that the Rangers played into November for the 1st time in Team history that year. lol. So, while we appear to others as "bandwagoners", we actually made a conscious decision and was there Opening Day. We just got lucky, I guess lol.

I'm OK with rooting for other teams mainly because I have really liked and respected players that don't play for my team. With that said I'll only ever have an emotional attachment to my home teams.

Rangers bandwagoning in 2010 was so fucking insane lol, it's like everyone had an epiphany. "Hey guys, we have a baseball team!" "What? Nonsense!" "No, seriously! They even use the same parking lot as the Cowboys!"

Me and that buddy I mentioned went to a game that season, late season, Magic Number was in the single digits (or low teens, I forget). Lewis was pitching. I think it was . Blue Jays. It was a 13-5 or something win. Murph and Nellie had homers. Great night lol. Twas the last Dollar Hotdog night of the year... Uuuugh

If you watched from the start of the season, then you aren't a bandwagoner. And that was the season people found out the name David Murphy I swear that dude was good for either a double or a homer 100% of the time if anyone else was on base that year.

It depends on the circumstances. Only sport I'm into is football (soccer). So I have my one team who I love. Who I've always supported, who I'll travel to go and see, who I'll watch every time they're on TV or stream their games online. They will always be my number one team. But some of my circumstances have changed, the two major changes are;

a) I no longer have disposable cash to go to as many top flight games or buy a season ticket
b) I've moved from the local area of the team.

This has led me to start going to see the local team in my new area. They're a much smaller team, they're in a lower division and the match tickets are much cheaper, so I'm able to 'root' for that team without any problem at all. I also favour specific teams in England, Italy and Spain and will 'root' for them when they play. Of course if any of these teams play my original team this goes out the window and I fully support the team I've always supported.

I don't see a problem with any of this, I think it's natural that if you love the sport you'll find other teams you enjoy watching and like to see succeed. The only circumstances I can see it's wrong is if you start supporting another team over your lifelong team, just because they're successful. That's just 'glory-hunting' as we like to call it over here.

I've been in Louisnana since I was 8 going on 9, and I still care more about USC football than the Saints even after the superbowl title. Same with UCLA basketball compared to the Hornets, but then again the hornets to me will always be charlottes team that Zo, Rice, Mashburn, Davis, Brown, and all bled and sweat for.

Personally I root for 5 teams...but that's in Super Rugby; The Crusaders, Hurricanes, Chiefs, Highlanders, Blues. 5 provincial teams where the best players are selected for the National team; The All Blacks. They regularly play each other during the season.
