Watched that Trips/Lesnar match few days ago, and I was massively disappointed, especially considering I tought it might end up being good during the summer build, IIRC. Not that I watched the build, it just seemed cool on paper back then. They needed to go with Lesnar/Cena II, with rubber match happening at WM 29. It's simple and logical booking 101. But of course WWE can't book for shit.

So yeah, that's another thing ruined by Trips. I'm firmly confident that SummerSlam match hurt Lesnar's drawing ability to some degree.

I don't blame them for bringing Punk back when they did, as they felt they needed to strike while the iron was hot, and I'm sure a Cena/Mysterio match wouldn't have exactly set the Summerslam buyrate on fire (although as it turns out, neither did Cena/Punk II.)

I also don't get why people were disappointed with the Triple H/Brock match. It was what I expected and was fine enough, and had a great finish. The whole angle was great - Brock manhandles HHH and HBK, and Triple H tries to stand up to the monster but find he's too much for him, apologizes to the crowd for not being able to win, etc. Now I'd love to see Brock with a new opponent instead of HHH just getting his win back. Him going after Taker's streak, or hell, using him to put Ryback over at Wrestlemania would be preferable.

The match was barely solid... and that's it. But it failed miserably as the SummerSlam main event, especially compared to the previous few ones.

I like that idea. The old "next big thing" against the new one. Sure Brock is 100 times more technically sound, but it will give Ryback a lot more cred instantly. If he re-signs they can give him a win back, if not, Ryback can claim he put one of the best ever out for good.

Indeed, Lesnar vs Ryback would be great, putting a new star over with a part timer who's a star, plain and simple, the way it should be. Since it seems like Brock is busy this year, if he re-signs, at 30 it'd be cool.

Even though I like the idea of building new stars, I have to say that Ryberg going over Bork at Mania would kill me a little inside.

I agree that Punk came back too quickly, but what else could they have done for Summerslam, one of their big 3 PPVs?

Oh I don't know, book that WWE Title tournament to last longer than a week and go all the way to the PPV? It really isn't that hard.

That also annoyed me, they went from losing the WWE Title being the worst thing ever to lol we have a spare, let's go ReyRey....

I'm sure that's what they would have done if Punk wasn't returning so soon.. but even then... Mysterio/Cena face/face @ Summerslam doesn't sound good at all on paper. Punk/Cena II after the 5 star match in Chicago was obviously the way to go.

They could've gone with their original idea for Summerslam that year, Cena/Del Rio. Have Del Rio cash in saying he's going to be versing the winner of the tournament, then have Cena win the tournament.

That would bring a good ME match and fix the biggest fuck ups that year, Punk and Del Rio's momentum.

I feel it is unfair for any of us to call anyone of these superstars ego maniacs because none of us are back in the locker room. However based on what is apparent I would agree that Triple H has really inserted himself in a lot of matches. I blame him for ruining Punk's run. There was nothing to gain from Punk losing to Triple H, so early on other than just keeping Punk out of the title picture for a month, (which just happened to be at the peak of his popularity).

On the other hand, Triple H's match with Brock was pretty good in my opinion because of it's brutality. The same could be said for the Taker match, which i was highly opposed against since I'd rather have Shawn in there. However Triple H and Taker had a different type of chemistry and they had spots in the match that sold it for me, so in total having Triple H insert himself is a hit and miss for me.

But you guys know that the initial plan was for Nash to put Punk over, but he was on medication and couldn't do it so HHH stepped in, right?
