If they extended Fenix to make up the injury time, I would get it.

But if that’s the case then I hope they do something with him as a single again and don’t just keep him so he can’t go to WWE.

If they kept fenix just because he missed a few matches is a tad childish tbh. I'd rather TK let wrestlers go out who don't want to be in AEW rather than just keep them.

Well *allegedly* both of them are refusing to do business on the way out. In which case I understand why aew might decide to play hardball and sit him for a year. I don't condone either behavior but I can understand it from the promoters pov. Assuming it's true ofc

Not a fan of the injury time addition overall. I think AEW probably justifies it more bc they let their talent work indies and they get hurt there sometimes, and I get the logic why either company would do it either way but it's almost only ever used to prevent them from moving to another company, not because you want to actually get the time out of them you paid for lol I'd even understand more if it was just to keep them at a lower rate before giving a new contract and raise but that never seems to really be the intention either

I agree with you on that Chris, it's unfortunate both companies still do this

The funny thing is it seems like everyone that pushes back on it gets it waived without much of a fight tho, people just don't wanna have the conflict I guess

its also a negotiating tactic I guess - "we COULD extend ur injury time...or you could just think about and sign with us again" rarely works but im guessing sometimes it does. reminds me of sports stuff but like u said minus the excuse of keeping them at a lowered rate

Ido think it's mad corny and lame if Penta and Fenix are refusing to job on the way out tho - especially that aew has always made people<s exit very respectable even in losses. nobody is getting embarrassed on the way out

I think it's a kind of tricky spot really. I reckon if the company is well aware that the talent doesn't have any interest in staying with the company then it's a bit of a dirty move otherwise pretty much any other situation I think they're well within their rights to extend it while they try and come to a conclusion.

This is the full quote from the Observer for context

Obviously Penta & Fenix are not being featured. There is concern now because AEW has the right to extend Fenix’s deal for another year due to time off due to injuries. Because of all the talk of his going to WWE and when he’s starting and such, Penta did a tweet saying to stop the gossip and ‘My present is in AEW.’ There were rumors going around he was going to NXT or getting a physical for WWE in Pittsburgh and he’s obviously not about to do anything of the sort while under AEW contract. He just as obviously can’t have signed a WWE deal until that AEW contract expires.

Yeah I disagree, don't think that's been true at all for quite some time.
